Because Mr. Microdot or Ms. Orange Sunshine said it is so and they spoke to you around 2 am.
Is it 25 or 6 to 4?
Really? I think you should really show her the door, then.

Been a long time now. It took years to get that image out of my head.
Thankfully it is long gone. It was a good movie though. Not in any hurry to see it again and replant the image of Kilmer as Morrison back into my head one more time. Even seeing Meg Ryan again as Pamela is not worth it.

Cool! I'll take one in an XL, 2XL if they run small!
show the bitch the DOOR
Classy.
Lemme guess; single fellah, are ya?
Yep, we spend a lot of time doing that up here in the Pacific Northwest.
Arbitrary answer.
Really? I think you should really show her the door, then.
And don't take any of my Doors albums with you!
Nah, she's right again, on this one at least.
Go beg forgiveness

The cover photo was taken by Henry Diltz at the actual Morrison Hotel, located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles. Diltz told the desk clerk they were going to take a few photos, and the clerk said they couldn’t without the owner’s permission and the owner wasn’t there. They took the pictures while the clerk was inside the elevator. The elevator numbers right under the ‘son’ in ‘Morrison’ are lit in the cover. The band jumped right behind the windows and hit their places without shuffling as Diltz took the shot...

The song is from this album and was left off the album with this title.
Not true. We enjoy a lot of different things, and it's fine to hate the Doors, like I do. Morrison comes off like a high school self-important bully, and I don't need that in my music.
What's not OK is to hate the other RP listeners. It's fine to talk about the music, but let's stay away from insulting each other.
It isn't hard to do.
So you hate The Doors? Not ambivalent towards, dislike, don't care for, or won't listen to but actually HATE. This is music we're talking about.
You come off like a high school self-important bully. I don't need that on my message board.
That comment is shocking, I think just the opposite: they are the greatest American band of all time. Quite a statement I agree but considering American rock 'n roll, nothing really comes close.

I was listening to Trey Anastasio play solo on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts (YouTube). After some of the much newer talent I'd seen behind that desk beforehand, he came across very week at first. But after really listening to the unique signature of his voice, I could just dig it.
I do think that newer artists have inherited a counter-culture music scene infrastructure — a culture! — that encourages them to grow up from 9 or 10, often with parental encouragement (!), thinking of a career in pop/alternative/punk as a serious endeavor they can take on with hours and hours of practice, whereas earlier phenoms may have emerged more out of nowhere.
So newer music may have some greater talents in it just by virtue of the performers coming to it as a serious endeavor.
Compare Hozier to Trey under Tiny Desk Concerts, for example.
Some Tiny Desk favorites include
Lucius
TuneYards (my capitalization varies)
Robyn Hitchcock (a geezer who seems to have found his voice in latest albums)
Daniel Lanois ('nother geezer)

You can test your own comment as to whether it makes sense: track down and listen to the two albums the Doors put out after Morrison died ("Other Voices" and "Full Circle"). I've heard the latter one...don't think you'll be thrilled.
Morrison wasn't always drunk and obnoxious. He definitely got that way as time went on and as the band was winding down. I'll leave it to others to pass judgment on his writing, although I believe he was better at writing lyrics than poetry. Then again, he was only 27 when he died...

If we vote for separation from the rest of the UK in next year’s independence referendum I’d make Waiting For The Sun Scotland’s new National Anthem!
Yeah, they're supposed to be in the Morrisey threads.
Also enjoying a great old Doors classic!
Now this should be called
Waiting For The (next) Song
This one just doesn't stand the test of time..
I guess they didn't realize drugs were not going to be as prevalent in the future...
That's on The Doors album, not this one. ** wink-wink **
Thank you Patti. You are too kind. :)

oh I am so sick of the bores, and the overplayed
Nice!
Bet Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree listened to more than a few Doors tunes in the day.

All rights reservedAs for the haters, we're "waiting, waiting, waiting for you to come along; waiting, waiting, waiting for you to hear my song." Not just listen to my song — hear my song.
I know. What's with all the hating on the song!?!?! OMG!?!?!
I have to agree. I got into all of these bands about the same time. In high school of course many guys thought they wanted to be Jim Morrison. But then we grow up. While the Doors do have some great songs, this is an example of overly simplistic and repetitive lyrics, and music that fails to impress. I'll take a good riff from any of the above bands over this any day.
Never my fav Doors tune and just not in the mood for it.
You said it better than I. Thanks SuzG.
Never my fav Doors tune and just not in the mood for it.
I have no idea what this is all about but thanks for the workday chuckle, CamLwalk!
And it's even harder when trying to put art works of high quality to illustrate a theme, in this case music, alongside, or in parallel, with a humorous comment, free, childish, and some completely stupid about the musicians and their work without the basic respect.
Then, as a result, artists are reluctant to allow the publication of their work.
And we all lose. Anyway, is this world we live .....
Yes, but we can change.

I'm afraid I have to agree.
I will never forget that Père Lachaise Cemetery morning, about 20 years ago . . .
I like me some Doors from time to time and this song hits the spot right now,,
as I am truly waiting for some !

AGREED!

Give me some of that Yoda Porcupine Tree as a recovery
tis intentional amp distortion with a plain old electric organ. Synth it was not.
That is a big part of what makes this stuff so ground breaking.
What folks today use a Moog and computers for, bands like the Doors used settings on regular instruments to achieve.

You must also dislike the Beatles, the Stones, and just about every other group here on RP. That aside, I rather enjoyed seeing The Doors, with Val Kimer as Mr. Mojo Risin'. On the other hand, seeing Ray in concert a couple of years ago with Roy Rogers was a real turn-off. I go to concerts to hear music with an occasional anecdote—not to hear a bunch of personal political and pseudo-religious beliefs being thrust on me. Thankfully, the venue promoters comp'ed me a couple of tickets to another show of my choice. (This is in no way any reflection on Roy, whom I've enjoyed seeing twice alongside Norton Buffalo.) |
