We used to drive to the ocean
Lie by the waves
Bathe in the moment
Now I'm alone, I pray for rain to come
Take me away, hmm

Away from the hills full of promise
Streets full of pain
Even in winter
Bright sunny days, I pray for rain to come
Oh, but it never does

Gotta get outta here, start a whole new life
Gotta go somewhere where the sun don't shine so bright
Everything around here
Everything 'bout this place just brings me down, ooh
'Cause there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Yeah, there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Ooh

It's cold in your shadow
All that remains, ghosts in the desert
Should I run away or pray for strength to come?
I'll run away, hmm

Gotta get outta here, start a whole new life
Gotta go somewhere where the sun don't shine so bright
Everything around here
Everything 'bout this place just brings me down, ooh
'Cause there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Yeah, there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Ooh

I'll keep runnin', baby
I'll keep runnin'
'Til you stop runnin' through my mind
I'll keep lovin' you
I'll keep lovin' you
I don't really know why
I know that I

Gotta get outta here, start a whole new life
Gotta go somewhere where the sun don't shine so bright
Everything around here
Everything 'bout this place just brings me down, ooh
'Cause there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Yeah, there ain't no California without you
Without you
Yeah, there ain't no California
Ooh

I'll keep runnin', baby
I'll keep runnin'
'Til you stop runnin' through my mind

Huh, totally hear it now - shades of Dolly and Stevie.
I thought this was Dolly Parton when I first heard it. Others say Stevie Nicks or Patty Griffin. Hearing three different great singers is saying something.
Patty Griffin tones to the voice
7 -> 8

Made me look to see who it was, 'cause i thought it could've been Stevie Nicks singing. That's not a criticism.
New to me, and i like it
I knew it wasn't SN - she's more gravelly - but similar style, and CA connection. Not bad.
c.

Edit: hearing it this time, I thought Patty Griffin. As a PG fan, that's high praise. I like it.

I started at 5 with this song, but I'm going -> 7.  It's got something ...

The voice is an acquired taste.. but I think I can acquire it, particularly with this sound

Thought for a moment that I could hear Dolly tones in her singing. Maybe it's just me.

Enjoy your fame while it lasts! - I would also have posted the first comment because this song and voice also caught my attention.
