For the first time in my life
I let myself be held, yeah, like a big old baby
And I surrender, mmm, to your charity

I let the jets fly
Not wishing for their destruction
Orange and black
In a perfect blue sky

I lay back in the tall grass
I let the ants cover me

For the first time in my life
I am moving away
Moving away
Moving away
From within the reach of me
All the while being held like a, like a, like a big old

nope. not a one because it seems quite different from the normal "millennial whoop" music you're talking about. spoon is not of the  long beard wearing, foot stomping decemberist-mumfords-avetts-fleet foxes etc kind of genre. imo, at least.

Haha, I was actually just educated by a friend the other day that the millennial whoop is not an actual whoop, but a melody. I was confused before because it didn't seem like a new thing to me. I stand corrected.
Repetitive and totally boring 🥱

I'm wondering if this is a reference to "Lucifer Sam," the cat being sung about in the Pink Floyd song titled "Lucifer Sam?"

that would be very cool. i can see that from the lyrics.
Such a great tune

sounds very goooooooood!
this band always seems to have a groove, or a hook...  never rises to the top but a good groove
Saw these guys at Red Rocks
The piano is ominous!
Quickly becoming a track that means its time to change stations...I see that others think its the bee's knees, but this listener takes a hard pass...
I prefer Smog's  ( Bill Callahan) original version.  This version is  sounding pretty flat.
One of the best albums of the year, so many great tracks
I rated this song a 9 but the whole album for me is a 10!!! I just didn't think they could outdo their two previous albums (They Want My Soul & Hot Thoughts) but sure enough they did. I hope they keep putting music out for years to come!
This new Spoon album is so damn good, start to finish. Be sure to catch them live. They put on one hell of a show.
These guys are getting a bit gritty . I like it!
Thought he was going to say "Orange you glad I didn't say banana" there.
SPOOON!!!!
This tune is getting played a lot lately.
I'm totally cool with that!!! It's very crunchy! Keep it rockin!
I've been playing this album fairly often since it came out, and I admire how they have evolved while still ROCKING OUT in quintessentially quirky Spoon style!
Just picked up this album after hearing and liking a couple tracks here.  Enjoying it so far, but I typically like everything Spoon puts out.
I'll be the dissenting minority vote...have heard two tracks off of this new release here on RP and neither was special or particularly interesting...deep yellows verging on oranges for me...
Spoon keeps churning out great stuff. This is my favorite album of the past 4 months or so- it's good to hear them rock again.
Great album overall
Makes me think of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.  Excellent stuff.

Sure is - and I prefer Bill Callahan's voice to this version...

Good spot.  This is a good version, though, I think...  Much more dynamic than the original.
