Yeah you may have all you want, baby, but I got somethin' you need
Oh yeah, ain't talkin' 'bout love
My love is rotten to the core
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Just like I told you before, yeah before
You know you're semi-good lookin', and on the streets again
Oh yeah you think you're really cookin' baby, you better find yourself a friend
My friend, ain't talkin' 'bout love
My love is rotten to the core
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Just like I told you before, uh before, uh before, before
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Babe it's rotten to the core
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Just like I told you before, uh before
I been to the edge, an' there I stood an' looked down
You know I lost a lot of friends there baby, I got no time to mess around
Mmmm, so if you want it got to bleed for it baby
Yeah, got to got to bleed baby
Mmmm, you got to got to bleed baby
Hey, got to got to bleed baby
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
My love is rotten to the core
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Just like I told you before, before, before
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Don't wanna talk about love
Don't need to talk about love
Ain't gonna talk about love, no more, no more, ah
Hey Hey Hey

I was about to turn 7 when this album came out. I spent so many hours listening to this album, staring at the photos on the cover, wondering what it would be like when I become a rock star. I still find myself wondering that.
Great guitarist wasted in a terrible band. Eddie would have been better off as a Studio Musician
BEFO BEFO BEFO !!!

They were the defining band for 80s hard rock!
So many memories experienced from this epic stand out of VH sonic perfection. I can't deny!
Lol...
...1985 Junior attending a small high school in WA State, somehow given parent's trust way past curfew to a 24-hour marathon dance 12 miles away to raise funds for the community with most of my classmates along with three other nearby towns worth of students.
A great setup, right?!
This formative song was played at least once an hour, along with crazy train from Ozzy, for the full epic onslaught of sleep deprivation & elation. The Menlo DJ played the best of the 70's & '80s.
What a night.
That perpetually dark dance floor, giving way to dawn. Waning to that eventual morning light playing Van Halen at least once an hour!
I was in heaven, I admit.
Making out with a here to unknown perfect kisser.
You know, in that experimental way, learning each other intimately. Taking place near the end of the dance off with a Senior student from my HS. lol. She was older and into me. Are you kidding?
We were kind of stunned by the connection. Never really talked at all after that consummate day.
But wow.
That bond possessing such a fleeting amount of time still haunts me.I think about her every once in awhile and wonder what she's doing these days?
I hope she's well.
Perfect memories & great times reflected for years with all of us involved.
We have a class reunion once a year in August still to this day and it gives me strength, meaning and deep connectivity.
Class of '86 RHS
So happy to hear!!

Van Halen- David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar?  My vote DLR

no knock on Sammy but Dave had that charisma and swagger. Also, he never took rock as serious music. It was about fun, getting laid. He said "Rock music isn't so much about  guitars as it is about guys in spandex" (which probably pissed off Eddie)
Did you ever walk into any bar from '78 until at least '88 where this wasn't playing at some point?

Is it possible your taste may have changed a little in the last 44 years?!
no sir. I didn't like it
RUN TO THE TURNTABLE AND SET THE NEEDLE DOWN ON THIS! I can never forget the hot, breathless day in Summer of '78 when my buddy Mike and I got back from the record store, played this, CRANKED, got blown away, and began what would become a daily ritual for a good long while... Mike and I could never get enough of it! Still hits me hard with nostalgia today!

From one fun song to another.
Nice seque from Dance the Night Away by The Mavericks.
Thank You RP! It sounds so much better in FLAC w/ great studio phones, amp & DAC!!!
Oh yes. F*cking GET SOME.

Agreed! Today/future....don't think us listeners will EVER be treated to that kinda talent again! Not taking anything away from today's artists but.....nah...never compare! Truly got the rockers attention, with bands like VH, etc, etc, etc...!

I know....right? Whatever the hell happened to this specific "era" of REALLY great artists?!!? Today's artists, although many are quite wonderful...there's not really much out there that measure up to artists from "way back" then!! Glad to see Bill & Rebecca have included such greats in the rotation! Me Wise Magic would be way cool to hear from RP! Hint, hint, B & R!!

I can never forget, summer of '78, my friend Mike and I drove our moms crazy playing this record every day. (My dad confessed to quite liking "Jamie's Crying," though...) God, it was HUGE... Foreigner's Double Vision was on the radio, there was The Stones' Some GirlsJoe Walsh had "Life's Been Good," The Cars were smoking hot, Cheap Trick, Talking Heads, too... The Sweet had by then an impressive collection of jamming hits to choose from, and The Who had Who Are You? REO SpeedwagonFoghat, Jerry Rafferty, Steely Dan, Kansas all had major hits on the airwaves... It was a long, hot, ROCK AND ROLL SUMMER... I do feel like THIS kicked it off...

@ CJ....just one more to add to the great jams of this "collection" of greats...the absolutely notorious AC/DC!! Just sayin!.... ✌ Rock on!

OK Bill, you can play any DLR era VH up until 1984.  Maybe some deep cuts.  They really were a great band.  Oh, and I guess you can play Cabo Wabo and Black & Blue if ya want.  ;)

Seriously, would be fun to hear more old VH on the RP.  RIP EVH.

Let's not let Me Wise Magic go unmentioned!! It's actually kinda strange....hearing this on FM, versus hearing it on RP! Perhaps just me? Either way, VH definitely rocked our world!! R.I.P. EVH. And, btw...DLR, to be sure! Sammy is/was good at HIS style....didn'treally mesh with VH's style. IMO, of course!

Hold my beer, got some serious air guitar to play
First time hearing this i was about 11. The paper boy, let's call him Ted, used to come by in the afternoon, continuously blasting this album on a boom box (no ipods or walkmans then folks), stacked on top of his papers. I recall thinking, what type of music is this that I'm hearing?

Not even a conversation in my book - DLR
I am a music snob (of the prog rock variety), but I do love VH.  Usually immature/pointless lyrics, but man, the riff, melody, and energy they delivered is amazing.  While I act all enlightened when I pontificate about King Crimson, I also like to play Eddie loud and rock out.  VH is far better than 99% of the hair bands of the era.

In 1978, my friends thought this was KISS without their make up on.

There is a great cover version by "the bird and the bee". They somehow turned this into a beautiful Pop song I just can't get out of my head:

Still like the original though...
Gone too soon EVH, a rock legend. RIP
The Mighty Bosstones go a great job with this song.  Very true to the original.
Always a showman. Capable of blazing solos, but  underrated as a rhythm guitarist.

RIP Edward Van Halen. Thank you for inspring a generation of rock guitarists.
My favorite VH track, RIP Eddie.
Brugklas HAVO, grijs gedraaid deze plaat. Beste nummer van VH!

RIP Eddie
I'm sure I am not the only one that picked up a guitar due to EVH. I am not sure how you could have heard his playing as a young teen and NOT wanted to play like that. The tones and sounds he created were one of a kind. I think back to all the posters and pin-ups I had in my room at the time, and I think he was smiling in every one. He played with such joy and passion. He will be missed.

RIP, Eddie, and thanks for the music and inspiration. You are one of the greatest.
In an interview Eddie once said....

"We get up there and blaze."

Yes indeed, that's exactly what he and they did.. Quite the supernova, too, for the day.  For a time they were brilliance defined.

Thank you for arranging to "go off" in my lifetime there Eddie. You done good.  It's been real. RIP.

Now on to the future.   This same one awaits us all at some point don't it?  So go blaze, folks.  Make some noise and enjoy your life.  It all ends far too soon.

Good choice of song to remember Eddie by.     R.I.P.
Ahhh, Eddie. Thanks for the soundtrack of my childhood. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace Eddie!
Rest in peace, Eddy.
RIP Eddie.  My childhood hero....
Helluva guitarist.
Rest in Peace you crazy MoFo.
RIP Eddie. Thanks for the music.
Thanks for playing.

I think he rates up there with Hendrix.

He never held back.  Every song was craft work.
Yeah - this album changed the whole entire guitar rock playing field (once again)...
Eddie was such a pioneer  - RIP
RIP Eddie. Hope you're jammin with Jimi and Stevie.

Yeah, sampled by some nasty artists, including Apollo 440 and 2 Live Crew.
Um, OK, wow!  Thanks Bill!!!

First time I've heard Van Halen on here.  IMO, the best song they ever did.  Typical that it's here.
And now for something entirely rockin'
One of the best van Halen songs, thanks for playing.
I'm not much of a Van Halen fan, but if Bill plays it I'll give it a listen.  And RP does not disappoint!  This is a fine rocking song :-)
How sweet memories!!!
My first rock show by a major band
It was on early 80's here in Brazil (1982, I think)
VH was one the first major bands that included Brazil on big world tours.
LONG LIVE RP
Such a strong debut!

I still remember my first listen.
So vulgar it's good?
What? VH on RP? Allrighty!!!!

Agreed 100%!  Have been really enjoying this less eclectic RP, though mostly for these cuts I haven't heard in awhile since I took leave of the FM airwaves....great to hear again and LLRP and the RPRM!!  Called this one an 8 after the first bar, and upped to a 9 after the 2nd;
