River run
And brother row
And the ease between us
The calm below
The rings, these twisted things,
cast off in the arms of those long low-aways
The lights, the river's striped,
and will we not belong to those long low laze
Surround us
Oh, drown us
A wailing whine, a Wendigo
A waltzing night
Oh bending road
Me, I couldn't sing,
caught in some long unseen
long it all the sun
Here, we riverswim,
wash away the lime
that seems to all in all been found
Surround me
Oh, drown me

Really great tune. I like the chord changes and the accordion makes a great addition.
Brings memory of Jeff Buckley. He took a riverswim.

They have some good tunes and some which annoy me.  I prefer when Melloy refrains from exaggerating that vocal affectation, as in this number.

Dumping rain here so this is working.  Although we should be partying cause its been dry as a popcorn fart.

This act is like the tunes I hear from Wilco most often. They need a jolt of energy. Too wistful. Somber. OK, it's not their chosen style, but humor us, Decembrists, let's get a bit of upbeat tuni-esta every now and again.

They definitely have a tendency toward the macabre, but check out their albums. They have a lot of energy in their music and in live performances. Of course, that energy doesn't always seem positive when they are singing about serial killers!!

is that an accordian I'm hearing?

Sounds like it to me... reminds me of The Band.
I'm getting an Elton John vibe about this - Tumbleweed Connection era - excellent!
very nice morning set Bill, thanks
Very lovely.
More from this album, please...

I even lasted through the first couple of verses. It's like he took a voice lesson:

"Here Colin, put this clothespin on your nose and try it again - see, doesn't that sound better?"

PSD -> James McMurtry, Choctaw Bingo : Win, that will teach me to try and ride out a decemberists song.

i severely dislike the decemberists but i do like this album cover a lot.
I'm not sure why the ratings are so low. Yes, sounds like REM, but very pretty!
