The original version of this song is not from the 1970's: it was recorded and released in 1968 by Joe South.  There was another song (much better, IMO) called "They Just Can't Stop It (Games People Play)" by The Spinners, which was released in 1975.

I like Joe South's version.  Would've liked to hear Dusty Springfield do this on her In Memphis album.
