It's movin' on down the line
Steel wheels on iron rails
Tonight I'm fixin' to die
Woo, I hope you don't mind pretty mama
Woo-hoo, hope you don't mind if I go
'Cause when the steam from the slow train rises
I ain't gonna see you anymore
There's a slow train coming
Coming right on time
Smokestacks and bottle lightning
This jumper on the line
Woo, I can't do without it anymore pretty mama
Yes, I can't do it without it anymore
'Cause when the steam from the slow train rises
I ain't gonna see you anymore
There's a slow train coming
To march us home from war
With my leather boots and my haversack
Sure can take it no more
Woo, I cried for her baby when I saw you there
Woo-hoo, I cried for her just the same
'Cause when the steam from the slow train rises
I'm gonna cry for you just the same
Well there's a slow train coming
Carrying the mighty worker hordes
Eighteen days in the cotton field
Enough to put a man out of coup d'amour
Woo, It's time to move on pretty mama
Woo-hoo, Yes it's time to move on as I go
As the steam from my slow train rises
It's time for me to get on board
I remember back in the day when everyone was saying that Trower was ripping of Hendrix's licks. Listen to what Trower was doing back then now, and you can see that he had his own unique sound.
When this song first started playing, it was background music, but I immediately recognized it as Joe Bonamassa. I said to myself "I keep hearing this guy". He might be the real deal. Time will tell.
Robin Trower is 3rd on my list of guitar heroes, worshipped from afar for decades and saw live once. A guitarist has to distinguish themselves by tone, technique, and innovation, among other things. To reach the level where one can almost instantly recognize a guitarist from among the millions of players on the planet is an incredible accomplishment. I think Bonamassa is reaching that. And I certainly never thought Trower stole anything from Hendrix.
OMG now I feel old. born same year...
Well, at least you can make your 10 extra loud
it's what I'm doing
TIme for new album called the "Flood Bowl"
Who gives a flying fcuk when you listen to the radio!

If you don't why Bonamassa is playing what he plays and packing houses from here to there, and back again,
then my soldiers below are correct...
you just don't know the blues, boy-o. And sorry but you've missed the slow train.
NOW...go back to your Galaxy S5 and listen your One Direction samples on your earbuds.
HERE! HERE! HERE!
Blues guitar will never go out of style and can always be reinterpreted my those who worship at the foot of the blues god!
Well the Blues and R&B are out there, you just got to make a little more effort to seek it out. Don't know if we need a "popular" blues revival to make it all matter. If it drives up ticket prices and crowds out the common folks that want to attend concerts, then who needs it? SLC is hosting their annual Blues Festival in two weeks and it's going to be a blast. It was awesome last year and it'll be even better this year.
I agree with you on the beer thing though...
Agreed. Plenty of acts like Joe B. and Keb Mo doing the legwork.

We will most definitely be catching his show whenever possible. It's simple and true to the music.
I've seen Joe live four or five times. Next up: Red Rocks this August. I swear his performances get better and better. This man can play the guitar!
Mr. Quasicoonass got that right (rippin' name too)!!!

It's the blues, son. There are strict musical and lyrical forms that must be observed if you 'play the blues'.
If not, you risk irritating the ghosts of Blind Willie McTell, Junior Wells, Champion Jack Dupree, T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, Lightnin Slim, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Freddie King, Charlie Musselwhite, Duane Allman, Roy Buchanan, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and, yes, even Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
Mr. Bonamassa is a very, very good bluesman. Here's proof.
Taj Mahal - a ghost?

I don't know, Shmelo, I've heard the same "uber polished shit" from
black boys for as long as I can recall and it's not "f**king dead" yet.

Found Mr. Bonamassa ("BonnaWho?") and my quest is done.
IMO best living guitar player.
Seen him three times and each time was better than the last.
Go see him live. He tours all of the time ala BB King.
He has a great podcast at thepickupradio dot com.
Well.....he's been practicing since '89 when he opened for B B King, so how much longer do think he needs?
Or was that a "nudge nudge wink wink" comment? Hopefully not sardonic.
Wry and ironic. Clearly, he knows how to give his axe a hell of a sonic bender workout.

This is the stuff the guys in the AARP and Viagra commercials are wailin on
How bout some real present day guitar slingers?
Brent Mason or Frank Gambale for starters
He surely does... But you know, he could read the phone book or recite nursery rhymes, as far as I care. Just so long as he plays that guitar while he does!!!
Oh! - and break-a-leg on the 28th!!
Thanks....the show was great. Like most bands.....that band is no longer. The guitar player I'm with now would not attempt to play this.
Interesting, hadn't made that connection but I can see it.
Dewar/Trower was a killer combo, that's for sure.
Mr. Quasicoonass got that right (rippin' name too)!!!
But not at breakfast time (on the east coast).
He sure does say "ohhhhhhhh" a lot in this song.

I'll be performing "Dust Bowl" with my band on March 28th
Killer song.....killer album

If you are interested in a fantastic show, go see Joe. First half is acoustic, second half is electric...and it's all incredible. Truly a rising star. Thanks Bill!
I'd call it blues rock on feckin' steroids. Meatier than a cow pie. Rockier than the Himalayas. Sheer metalfittin' crunchy volume-to-11 rockin' goodness.
Thanks Bill
Simple?
Saw Joe August 31 at Red Rocks outside of Denver. Tribute to blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf plus a few of his own tunes. If this guy isn't or doesn't become known as one of the greatest guitarists ever . . . .
Awesome!
Jeff Beck has played so many styles, so many great tunes. Mr. B has, from my limited exposure, just done this...a lot. If you want to compare Bonamassa to Beck's blues, then fine. Jeff Beck is just far more versatile and exploratory.
Bonamassa is up there with Jeff Beck. If you want any more info feel free to ask.
He is obviously influenced by SRV, but I doubt they ever met. Joe was about 12 or 13 when Stevie died.
In the dialect of Belluno province, in northern Italy, you would say he's just "massa bon!"
Demand for No.11 is too damn high.
