Walking up to me expecting walking up to me
Expecting words it happens all the time
Present company accept it present company
Except the worst it happens every night
Ah aaaaah present company
Excluded every time
Ah aaaaaah present company
The best that you can find
Talking like a jerk
Except you are an actual jerk
And living proof that sometimes friends are mean
Present company expect it present company
Just laugh it off it's better than it seems
Ah aaaaaah present company
Excluded in every way
Ah aaaaaah present company
Makes me wanna stay
Killing it with close inspecting
Killing it can only make it worse
It sort of makes it breed
Present company accepting
Presently we all expect the worst
Works just like a need
Ah aaaaah present company
Excluded in the night
Ah aaaaah present company
Included in the fight
Ah aaaaaaaah, ah aaaaaaaah, aaaaaah
Ah aaaaaaah
Don't you want me to wake up?
Then give me just a bit of your time
Arguments are made from make outs
So give it just a little more time
We've got to bring our results
I wanna play it 'til the time comes
But there's a string of divorces
You go and throw your little hands up
I miss the way the night comes
With friends who always make it feel good
This basement has a cold glow
Though it's better than a bunch of others
So go and dance yourself clean ..ooow
Go and dance yourself clean yeah
You're throwing marks into pieces
Baby, they're arguments, the pieces
It's your show [x4]
Work a little bit ......?
Every night's a different story
It's a thirty car pile-up with you
Everybody's getting younger
It's the end of an era, it's true
And you go
(Stop, stop, stop, stop)
Break(?) me into bigger pieces
So some of me is home with you
Wait until the weekend
And we can make our bad dreams come true
And it's ago yeah, it's ago
And if we wait until the weekend
We can miss the best things to do, oh
Go and dance yourself clean
Go and dance yourself clean
You're throwing marks into pieces
Maybe they're arguments the pieces
Oh
We should try a little harder
In the tedious march of the few
Every day's a different warning
There's a part of me hoping it's true
Expecting words it happens all the time
Present company accept it present company
Except the worst it happens every night

Had to raise my standing desk bc there's no way I'm sitting still for this one.

Collective Soul employed a similar technique to open their self-titled second album. A very low-fi drum loop with a quiet vocal for 16 measures - just long enough to entice the listener to crank the volume - then the full-on stereo drums kick off the actual beginning of the song.
And therein lies the genius of the song. That's precisely what they want you to think.
The first three minutes are very subdued: minimal instrumentation, somewhat repetitive lyrics, quiet flat vocals. It lulls you into a state of near boredom, and you think, "Maybe I should turn it up."
GOTCHA! Moments later it's a full-on sonic AMBUSH! Wild bouncy synth; insistent, occasionally screechy vocals; and that BASS! A complete 180 from the first part.
Brilliant!

could use some gain in the vocals (maybe not the screaming parts)

this is going from 7 to a 9, just because I don't dance but found myself flat out getting down in the kitchen - not even exceptionally high. That's an exceptional song.
Never heard these guys before. Thoroughly enjoyed this track.
I don't hate it. I respect a good chiptune, but I can't believe how long it is.
80's vintage. cool.
When he starts singing in this it kinda reminds me of Cold War Kids' "Hang Me Out to Dry;" the music, especially the keyboards, reminds me of the '80s...

I love these guys and this track, but the mix is so weird.
This sounds like something i composed on Garaage Band the day I purchased my first Apple product
This song gets better and better every time I hear it.
way too long...lost interest halfway through.
i wish i could remember the name of the LCD Soundsystem song i heard on NPR that i LOVED...but it wasn't this. will have to do some research and hopefully get that uploaded.

so friggin good!
Great tune from a very good album! I encourage people to let it grow on you. Perhaps a bit like - say Alt-J. I wasn't a fan at first and now love them. Their album Sounds of Silver is their best IMHO - begin there.
ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that I could; but I just can't...

I've rated this an 8 but don't recall ever hearing it on RP. Hmm. Well anyway, here's where I first heard it:
RIP JC

great track! great band! great label!
I notice the low ratings on this one, but this is a good example for why I listen, every now and then Bill throws me a curveball.
I'm rocking to this one. Very fun.

Funny you should ask that. Muppets + LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean (It's just LCD Soundsystem audio overlaid on Muppets video, but it fits really well).
The video mash up makes it that much more awesome.

I liked it.
Sheez, is this ever going to end. I kinda liked it at first. Then it started in with the 80s video game sound effects and then it just decided it was going to go on forever. Definitely a sucko-barfo song now.
Ready for the next song.
I love the power of the bridge and the second half of the song. It's stripped down to basic beat and passionate vocals. Also love "I Can Change" off this album. Fantastic pure techno-pop.
I understand why this song is polarizing (seriously, look at the distribution of the user ratings — it's really love or hate), but it completely hits me where it counts.
Sure, I listen to a lot of "serious" music, but there's no denying the energy in this tune. It just makes me want to crank the volume every time. You have to listen to it on a powerful system to really feel it, especially late in the song when the bass is sliding around like a California earthquake. I've probably played this song and album more than any other music I've purchased this year.
As someone who grew up listening to this type of music the first time it came around (think 1978-1982), I think LCD Soundsystem is the real deal. Sure they borrow from the past, but they also chart their own path. All 3 of their albums are worthwhile and I like Sounds of Silver best. They're playing the Hollywood Bowl later this year — that should be one big party.

Holy sh*t I hate this. This is what happened when Schroeder grew up, kept playing his toy piano, and started taking E.

...so far this is my Summer 2010 song. Hard not to dance on the train home when I've got this drowning out all the vanilla pop rock spilling out other people's earphones. I wish it left me feeling more clean.
....................................
It's kinda boring until the sort-of cheap-sounding video-game keyboard kicks in. Then it gets really boring. Just MHO.
The jerk reference in the lyrics reminds me of what a friend frequently said in college, "Some people act like jerks. Some people are jerks. For example, Pete Rose, IS a jerk." He never said it any other way.
Bitchin cowbell, BTW
Bitchin cowbell, BTW
dull / generic spoken word against a bland beat. and then it turned into a techno nightmare.
I was listening to this earlier. I agree when you say too long , but still truly awesome. Not down some people's street, but still good music.
A good 3 minutes too long.
Don't care so much for the lackadaisical first quarter of the song, but the latter part is typical LCD fun times!
Tight Pants Ironic Moustache Crowd: The Notorious TPIMC. They suck... lattes! Snarf!

I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This sounds like something that would appeal to the tight pants ironic moustache crowd, so I'm highly prejudiced against it. Also never loved LCD Soundsystem. This is kinda alright though, I gotta say...
This is what my voice sounds like when I DON'T sing in the shower... Not the kind of song I'd listen to if I wanted to relax and Zen-out, but it does have a catchy beat. IMO, that's all it has going for it.
Most appropriate for large sound systems with plenty of bass. Hooooolyyyyyyy.
Not really appropriate for office speakers.

Hence the 5.7 rating.
As for me, there's only 2 LCDS songs I get into, and this isn't one of them. But I don't hate hate hate it either. So, I'll just help it maintain the 5.7 with a 5 of my own.

I heard that too. Interesting guy, somewhat odd, but that's not surprising. I don't think I'd give his tunes a second listen if I hadn't heard him talking about them.
Oh, and definitely tooooo loooooong.
Fresh Air recently had a story about James Murphy (re)introducing dance/pop into Indy rock. Wasn't sure I'd heard LCD Soundsystem before. Now I have and am very glad for their contributions.

This song really is great. It's not down a lot of folk's allies down here. But this song, really is amazing.
Haven't listened to RP for about three months, and this is the first thing I hear when I return...and it just sucks.
See you in another three months.

Thomas Dolby called; he wants his synthesizer back.

Oh how I want to dance myself clean. Yesterday on the Fresh Air interview James spoke about having his live soundsystem at the perfect volume, or else the "wild monkeys" in his head kick in and he can't turn off the brain. I so identify. To lose oneself in the music, releasing self-consciousness, letting go. Can anyone do this without alcohol?

Interesting track, but could've done with being about two minutes shorter... Began to grind on me after what felt like five minutes. Vocals were deliberately far back in the mix, but (with certain specific exceptions COUGHradioheadCOUGH) I generally like to understand vocalists!

This track is the shizzle.
Quirky, interesting, but rather outstays its welcome. I wonder if that really is a Casio they use for the high notes theme?

HORRIBLE - Sucko Barfo vote for me.

Has kind of a David Byrne feel to it. Not bad.
Wooh! Again!
Did anyone else catch Terry Gross' interview with James Murphy on Fresh Air yesterday (National Public Radio show for those... what American doesn't know that show)?
He's a genuine person. I just find it refreshing how he's not afraid of who he is. Contrast to the interview with Paul Stanley - oh so hideous.

My favorite band hands down. James Murphy speaks my language. His songs just don't get old, and I've been listening to them constantly since the release of each album.

Not my favorite song but I like how at the end the naked vocals contrast with the otherwise - strong techno sound.
Retracted. This song just sucks.

Ok- now I have established my first "first" - hmmm - not bad, could do with a few more plays before I rate it higher.
David Byrne with Vince Clark keyboards...
Cool. Has potential. Yeah, definitely.
this band just appeared on my radar with a small ad in the New Yorker that i happened to notice which just said "LCD Soundsystem" three times... then i came upon a long article about them.
finally!
