All you kids get out the back door
I've never seen her this bad before
She took all her favorite things down from the window
And broke 'em all over her clean floor

It's Saturday at the mansion
The oldest boy walks with a slouch
The young ones are wild in back of the house
And she gave up and went back to sleep on the couch

Something as simple as boys and girls
Gets tossed all around and then lost in the world
Something as hard as a prayer on your back
Can wait a long time for an answer

When I was little I'd stare at her picture
And talk to the mother of God
I swear sometimes I'd see her lips move
Like she was trying to say something to me

When I was eighteen I moved to Florida,
Like everyone sick of the cold does,
And I waited on old people waiting to die
I waited on them until I was

Something as simple as boys and girls
Gets tossed all around and then lost in the world
Something as hard as a prayer on your back
Can wait a long time for an answer

So I'm wearing my footsteps into this floor
One day I won't live here anymore
Someone will wonder who lived here before
And went on their way

I live too many miles from the ocean
And I'm getting older and odd
I get up every morning with a black cup of coffee
And I talk to the mother of God

Something as simple as boys and girls
Gets tossed all around and then lost in the world
Something as hard as a prayer on your back
Can wait a long time for an answer...
Can wait a long time for an answer

Maybe ... it's alright.
Maybe we won't fight anymore.
Maybe love is waiting at the end of every room.
I don't know.
I don't know.
But maybe ... maybe it's al..........right.
(or maybe is al..........right).

as always, her lyrics (and delivery) get to the heart of the matter.
Newest comment is ten years old? Can't be.

Silver Bell is pure genius from start to finish.

It's actually old. In 2000, Patty recorded what was supposed to be her third CD, called "Silver Bell", that she had worked on while signed with A&M Records, who released her first two CDs ("Living With Ghosts", "Flaming Red"). When Interscope bought A&M, they decided not to release "Silver Bell", which caused Patty to sign with ATO Records, instead. Unfortunately, Interscope retained ownership to the master recordings of the CD, and has no plans to release it at this time.

Here's a tentative list of the songs that were supposed to be on "Silver Bell".

  1. Little God
  2. Boston
  3. Perfect White Girls
  4. Truth #2
  5. What You Are
  6. Silver Bell
  7. Driving
  8. Sooner Or Later
  9. Top Of The World
  10. Sorry And Sad
  11. Making Pies
  12. Mother Of God
  13. One More Girl
  14. Standing

As you may notice, many of these songs have since appeared on her other releases ("Top Of The World", "Making Pies", "Mother of God", & "Standing"), but the versions on "Silver Bell" were a little different than what was eventually released.

While the CD was never released, you can find it online if you dig hard enough. I finally found it after searching for around a month or so. I'd be happy to send it to others, if they're interested. Just send me a private message with your e-mail address, and I'll send you a zip file of the release. Only, however, if you promise to make a donation to RP or buy one of Patty's CD's (if you don't already own them all, like me).

Interscope Records must be run by idiots, Silver Bell is a beautiful collection of songs!

Songs like this are the reason I listen to Radio Paradise.  This is just absolutely gorgeous.
I like this version even better than the one that was officially released on Impossible Dream.

Just when I was ready to give up on this station I hear this.
Nice tune.
Wow, I never heard this before....spectacular....flawless...every song...how does this woman do it?
Wow. Amazing. {#Eek} {#Notworthy}

Anything Ms. Griffin does starts out at 8 for me. Wow.

It's a shame this album never got released. This song is quite good.

Patty seems to have a lot of unreleased stuff that finds its way onto the airwaves.  (All really good, IMO.)  What a remarkable talent!
Is this new, from her?

Likey.

This woman amazes me more and more with every one of her songs that I hear. How I've never heard of her prior to finding RP is beyond me. I thought I was fairly well musically-educated too.

Nice one!  I've never heard it before, but the first verse hooked me right away. :)
There's a lovely version of this on Impossible Dream.

Wow. Spare and powerful.
