Most sentimental nights
I'm in your sights
Shoot me down
There ain't no enemy here
You keep me very near
And shoot me down
Shoot me down
Your hands, they flutter up
Armed and dangerous
My buttercup
Shoot me down
In flames
Stand back, baby
Stand back and let me breathe
I think I'm fallin' out of here
I can hear the grass grow
I can hear the melting snow
I can feel your breath against my ear
I might just disappear
Wouldn't that be nice?
Yea wouldn't that be nice?
Well wouldn't that be nice?
I look into your eyes
Comes as no great surprise
You're gonna shoot me down
Shoot me down
I know that when you smile
It will only be just a short little while
Shoot me down
In flames
Shoot me down (shoot me down)
In flames (shoot me down)
Shoot me down (shoot me down)
In flames (shoot me down)
You're gonna shoot me down (shoot me down)
Oh in flames (shoot me down)
Shoot me down
Shoot me down

Please don't use words like "emo" when describing Nick Cave's work. You wouldn't say "Otis Redding's my main nizzle" either.
What a weird comment. I can't even parse "Otis Redding's my main nizzle". I agree with the OP - this is emo pablum, but that's just an opinion. Man.

In Australia this fails the Pub Test: too precious by half
Wouldn't make the Aussie Top 5000

Another work of genius which chimes on an emotional level, from Mr Cave.
With thanks.

That is how my day is going 2020sk! Yay for Radio Paradise.
Yesterday was a bit poppy, the day before was morosely electronic, and I was almost giving up on RP.
But I'm delighted to report that they are back to their glorious, perfect best today - at least from my selfish point of view!

One day ago Nick Cave's son died after falling of a Brighton, England cliff not far from the family's home.
I can't begin to image (and pray I never will) what that family must be feeling right now. I'll be thinking warm thought of my own beautiful boy every time I hear his music from now on.
Peace be with you, Nick.

Wait...what? Not sure I see the logic in those sentences at all.
I have to ask: is Nick Cave the prodigal son of Leonard Cohen or something like that?
I think the "logic" is about discouraging the anachronistic use of terminology, i.e., applying contemporary or later-used labels to an artist whose work preceded the use of those labels.

What Tom Waits may have sounded like had his voice not gone to ruin.

It'd be alot funnier if the backup singers would sing "Shoot him down" instead of repeating the singer's line.

This song is a running narrative of cliches, hackneyed phrases and emo pablum. Lyrics so bad that they make one wonder how he sings them and maintains his self-esteem. One can only hope she pulls the trigger sooner rather than later.

.... This is O U T S T A N D I N G
I Love Nick and The Bad Seeds, since I was thirteen Now I'm... UHUHHMMM!!
A big fan of the man ever since the Birthday Party....
Cool song, he's stating those felt moments we all have at some point in a relationship, reading in their eyes what they ultimately intend on doing to you...Cave is one hard-workin artist, imo, and this collection of rarities and b-sides is exactly what I was long hoping to hear, thanks DJ
There's always been a bit too much of a "poser" vibe from this guy. Like he's trying too hard, imo. Ever since I first heard him in the early 90's.
This song is as close as I have ever come to liking a Nick Cave song - still gets a 1. I really, really do not like this guy.

Jeez, for the first seconds I thought this was Bruce Springsteen - in which case I would have switched station immediately.

I've never heard of Nick Cave before. This is a lovely song (I too thought it was Bruce at first).
Jeez, for the first seconds I thought this was Bruce Springsteen - in which case I would have switched station immediately. But then it turned out to be Nick Cave - SOOO much better, beautiful in fact.

Agree, except for this song. This reminds me of the few bad Dead Can Dance songs. Same tone, same lack of interest on my part, etc.

The best Nick I've heard yet.
