Stay in the shade until you reach the grave
Hide from yourself and see how you fade
You'll see how you fade
Love moves on
Life goes on
You'll stand all alone
You'll see how you fade
You'll see how you fade
See how you fade
Move on or you'll see how you fade

Damn, Jose, that's a little too close for comfort.

There are only a few voices I can't stand and his is one of them. Almost ruined the Zero 7 album he was featured on.

Funny, and mostly because I can see the AutoCad 3D modeling.

I dig this album, though I still don't know how someone gave him my final project from my Intro to CAD for Residential Architecture class to use for cover art.
Guess I should have spent more time studying for that class and less time getting high and listening to Nick Drake records.

hmmm. Man sings in three languages and collaborates with dozens of world-class musicians. They must hear something there...just sayin'

Love this artist.
Love it! Sounds like paradise!
How'd Bill and Rebecca know that I was in a José González "Stay in the Shade" kinda mood this morning?

Gonzalez's WHAT? VOICE? Pleeeeeease!
He's himself so aware of the ridicule of his voice he finds himself forced to "double" it in some annoying way. This guy has something, sure... but I find him so overrated. He and Moby must do something together.

Interesting. I don't know who was/is the better guitarist and/or singer/songwriter, but I have a feeling that Drake would have admired Gonzalez's voice, style, and chops.

Monotonous. I don't get this guy.
His concert last Sunday night in Oakland started with this song. Lovely. Great show.

Nice one. Still Nick Drake is above all this...

Amen to that, very nice touch on the strings.
Seems like we're setting the bar pretty high with inevitable comparison to the incandescent Mr. Drake? Ouch! Funny how you can come up with an "almost" Whitney Houston here and there (saw one on "The Voice" recently), but the gulf separating mere mortals from a Drake or an Elliot Smith seems almost to grow with time. Watched "Good Will Hunting" couple weeks ago, wow what a rare soul Elliot was.
At first I thought oh crap it's Fleet Foxes. Then I came to this page to say "Hey, for Fleet Foxes this isn't so bad at all". Now I want to know more about Jose Gonzalez. Nice guitar decent song!

yeah, just what I thought, the way he plays his guitar and even the way he sings. Good thing Nicks spirit is still among us.
Just echoing comments already said, but yea, this could be the reincarnation of Nick Drake and boy, what a compliment that is!

Everybody in my churches loves this song...
I find it boring - by any means (incl. guitar)!
Great song...
Wow, last comment July 2012... has this suddenly stopped gripping people?
"stay in the shade" when it's 107 degrees outside.
What a friggin summer in KC!!
What a friggin summer in KC!!
This is also very nice in the Spanish version.
Last few have been too mellow for me this morning. I will wait patiently...
sweet and mellow midnight music
Nick or no, I likes it.
Great transition from Nick Drake! Perfect set for my morning tea on a quiet morning in a quiet house...

First few licks sounded like a Penguin Cafe Orchestra tune.
Beautiful segue from Nick Drake. RP got me to buy this album and I have not regretted it. Excellent Sunday morning music with a strong coffee.
Hmmmm, yea, I liked it!
Kinda sounds like David Crosby...
It is reminiscent a particular Nick Drake song (which I cannot presently think of), and likely inspired by it, but contrary to the apparent belief here, Mr. Drake was not the first person to sing mournful, personal songs and accompany himself on an alternately-tuned acoustic guitar. There are several hundred years worth of such folk music which which was written and performed long before his birth..
Which Nick Drake song is this a heavy borrowing of? It's good I like it.
José González's music really does it for me - this is an excellent cut. . .
Sounds like Zero 7
wow, back to back, i don't think i've ever heard such an obvious copycat! ok, influence. it's not a cover is it?
"Know that I love you Know I dont care Know that I see you Know Im not there"

Krikes! The name Jose Gonzalez has been bouncing around in my head lately whenever I hear this song but not as the musician. Finally figured it out - The fantasy artist by the same name painted THIS: (click here) The life size poster of Vampirella hung in my room when I was a 6th grader - looking back I can't believe my Mom let me get away with that. Love you, Mom.
Funny, my first thought when I saw this guy's name was:
Man, how many millions of Jose Gonzaleses are there out there? It must be the Spanish equivalent of John Smith.
More Vampirella! Hubba! Wish MY mom was that cool...
Bill's awesome segue from Coldplay's "Spies" to this makes me like both songs better!

Very simple but very effective. Sounds nice today, with the sun shining . . .
Agree completely!
This guy seems to have only one tune but it's a good one.

OK, so this guy's only good tune is his cover of "Heartbeats." Well, it's more than I got!

I like this song, but I hear it much too often on RP :P
6 even with the overplay.
nice shift of pace I like it a 5.0Roverfish wrote:

I actually came here to see if anyone else heard Nick Drake. Clearly, I wasn't alone in that. Quite likeable tune. Nice guitar work.

He got kind of a Nick Drake thing going on. Very nice.
I'd say he lifted the melody and accompanyment right off Drake.
But not as interesting or polished.
Way too long, like Stairway To Heaven, or Free Bird
... good advice!
Wow, this gets played a lot, a real lot. It's a nice tune but it could start irritating me. Moderation can be a good thing!
This reminds me of the Aussie band Mississippi (who became little river band).
And a dash of Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young).
Liking it enough for an 8 =)
a little Alexi Murdoch would go well with this
I am actually starting to dislike this guy's stuff. Not sure why . . . just not my cup o' tea, I guess.
Sounds almost like Nick Drake kind of.
This is very enjoyable.
This is good stuff Maynard!
The more I hear it - the more i like it!
Trancendental. Not bad at all.

Liking it more and more...lots of tasty flavors plus a unique new thing going...
Sounds like old Simon and Garfunkle...me like!
And a very unusual name.

& a little bit of David Crosby I think
Nice, but a bit too monotonous to get a high rating
i don't know why i like this dude so much! although i would definitely hesitate with all the nick drake comparisons.
i have no clue who nick drake is...but im sure i might hear him! at least on here. PR
Seen him in concert, he has a neat subtle style that woos the audience into a tranquill peace. It was really nice.
I hear the Zero 7 sound in there. Nice!
Whoa there on the Nick Drake comparisons. He plays acoustic guitar and sings with little else, sure. But let's not jump from likeable land straight to near godlike status, ok?
don't like the dissonance. 1
Nick Drake reincarnated..................
Nice though.
He got kind of a Nick Drake thing going on. Very nice.
