Like a cloud his fingers explode
On the typewriter ribbon, the shadow grows
His hearts in a bowl behind the bank
And every evening when he get home
To make his supper and eat it alone
His black shirt cries
While his shoes get cold
It's just a dream he keeps having
And it doesn't seem to mean anything
And it doesn't seem to mean anything
One summer, a suicide
Another autumn, a travelers guide
He hits snooze twice before he dies
And every evening when he get home
To make his supper and eat it alone
His black shirt cries
While his shoes get cold
It's just a dream he keeps having
And it doesn't seem to mean anything
It's just a dream he keeps having
He feels lucky to have you here
In his kitchen, in your chair
Sometimes he forgets that you're even there
It's just a dream he keeps having
And it doesn't seem to mean anything
It's just a dream he keeps having
It's just a dream
And it doesn't seem to mean anything

This song has a kind of Belle & Sebastian vibe to it, I like it

Best move Jeff Tweedy ever made was teaming up with Jay Farrar and the worse move was unteaming himself from Jay Farrar..

This reminds me of a song about a hedgehog...

From Hendrix to Dylan to Kathleen Edwards to the Shins to Wilco... this has been a sweet run, Bill and Rebecca.

Such a cheery-sounding, depressing song.

Love these guys...
They had five killer albums...when they were still a RnR band and this is one of them.
Saw them with Dylan and Morning Jacket a few weeks ago in St Paul.
They put on a great show.

OK, sorry to Wilco fans, I just needed to get that off my chest.
The more I hear this, the more I like. I think this its a perfect essence of what Wilco is all about.

This song just oozes atmosphere and perfectly fits the title IMO... sunny and careless on the surface (summer), but with quite a dark undercurrent (teeth).

Jeff Airplane Wilco segue. Kinda rolls off the tongue but it doesn't seem to mean anything.
They have performed in 55 shows over the past year...and played this song ONCE.
Well stated horstman.....

I feel that artists and bands that capture a moment and then share that moment with their audience, and those experience(s) creates a feeling in the end user are great musicians. Wilco captures emotions and experiences that I have had (and others I presume) and upon hearing their music, those experiences are recreated or enhanced or remembered.
That's art. And that is why they are special.

But I am not saying they are bad. I am just asking: "what's

great song from my favorite CD of the aughts
I like this tune more than most Wilco tunes. You really can't have a shitty voice and sing out of key unless you're in Wilco. Then it's hip and cool!! Nobody does it better than this band. For this, I like them. Especially Jeff Tweedy.

Hey, Wilco: it's been 10+ years. I respect/admire your sonic shapes and shifts. Please give twisted 60s bubblegum pop another shot.

I'm not sure what this means, I think they've only gotten exponentially better since this album. I'm sorry that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot wasn't bubblegum pop, heaven forbid we use our "brains".
I get your sentiment, but you have to admit: YHF features some seriously dense material. If people enjoyed Wilco's A.M. album more because it wasn't a "chore" to listen to, I can't believe that's a totally unreasonable take. Old Wilco and New Wilco are so unalike you'd have a tough time recognizing them as the same band if you heard them both for the 1st time. Sidenote: not trying to preach against having an opinion (I hate when people do that) but Wilco sort of has their own deal going on musically nowdays, and while I'm sure many people truly enjoy it, I suspect there is a percentage of people that feel they better like it, or else be labeled "brainless" - and needlessly so. Does this make any sense? Is this the long way of saying "Don't call me stupid"? ;)
God, I love this song...
I'm a sucker for happy Summerteeth like songs. Love them. LOVE them.
A superior vintage I enjoy savoring again and again. Goes for the entire album.
Sounds a bit U2-, Bono- like to me. That's not a bad thing.
Anyone have this album on LP and would be willing to part with it?

I thought I might get the first comment - oh well.
Great song, great album, great band!
