Hey I like how this links up with a book of the same title written by my old CU Writing Program buddy Luis Alberto Urrea; Bravo Luis, and Bueno, Calexico! Con carino mucho, amigos!
this song bores me.
i normally dig Mariachi type music...Mex influence and such but this one's not doing it for me...at least not tonight. we'll see.
Romona come closer, shut softly your watery eyes...
Pseudo illegitimate my a**!! Get yer cattail down to the Border and learn a bit first before you comment. They are the real deal just as much as Selena and Los Lobos and la banda and mariachis (who are actually pan-Mexican imports from Jalisco). One big musical melting pot, sweetie. catmaven wrote:
This seems to be illegitimate gringo pseudo-mex "music." Whatever the original genre was was bad enough. This adds nothing.
The more I hear Calexico, the more it grows on me. I happen to like this "illegitimate gringo pseudo-mex "music" (as catmaven referred to it.), always have. I prefer not to limit myself musically or otherwise.
Yes, I believe it's time to delve a bit further into these guys...
there's a dylan song in here somewhere

This is there original genre. They are highly talented musicians that happen to have Mexican/South Cal influences. To write them off as "gringo pseudo-mex" music means no one can be influenced by any culture.
Ole!

these guys -- and this song in particular -- are electrifying live. if you ever have the chance to see them, take it!

Don't know all their stuff yet, but what I hear, I like. Guess I'm a sucker for that Mariachi trumpet sound.
You can have the trumpets, I'll take the pedal steel!
Delete button still stuck?

Ok stuff, but the other tunes were much better. Tired of hearing this.

In my experience, Calexico is like pizza and sex...when it's good it's great, and when it's bad, it's still pretty good!

Ah, Calexico...a breath of fresh desert air...particularly nice on a cold Cleveland morning!
