Cease to resist, giving my goodbye
Drive my car into the ocean
You'll think I'm dead, but I sail away
On a wave of mutilation
Wave of mutilation
Wave of mutilation
Wave
Wave
I've kissed mermaids, rode the El Niño
Walked the sand with the crustaceans
Could find my way to Mariana
On a wave of mutilation

This version of the song was also on the Southland Tales soundtrack, and used very effectively in the film.
This was on the soundtrack for the movie "Pump up the Volume". The best part of that soundtrack was the dual use of 'Everybody Knows' - the Leonard Cohen version and the Concrete Blonde version used for the finale.

It´s the first time i listened to this version. It is nice but i like the faster and rocking version from the album doolittle more.

Buying that soundtrack after seeing the movie in theaters introduced me to a world of music that's lasted me well into adulthood. I'm blessed to've seen most of those bands/people live and hearing them here occasionally is worth stopping and commenting on. Cheers, Bill and to the rest of the comments here!

The instrumental tune and vocals are almost polyphonic. Brilliant. What’s old is new again. And that’s a good thing. Great guitar.
this is phat like Frank Black Francis

The Pixies can play slow music??
Love the original
Love the Pixies!!!!
Love the Pixies!!!!
I actually prefer this version to the original, but both are great!
Trying hard to sound bored and talentless. Don't let those crustaceans bite you on the way out ...
HEEEEEEEEEY !

That means: No complains.
I can live with both bands.
Pixies meeting Velvet Underground
Ooh, I quite like this, especially today - captures my mood well. Intriguing and different. Love it when a song on RP stops me in my tracks, makes me check the playlist, then the song comments...

That album is taboo around here.
Unfortunately.
I don't think Brian was around much when they did that album though
It was still amazing.
Looks like the surf's up, eh, Bill.
Come to think of it, why not play a cut from Surf's Up by Brian and the boys?
How about the cut Surf's Up? How's that for eponymous?

Will always connect this song with Christian Slater & 'pump up the volume'. Was a pivotal time in my life & this song (original or cover) will always transport me to that place.

Meh. I would say it's the other way around - except that this version gets a 9. This is also the very first version of this song that I heard, way back in the movie "Pump up the Volume" in Christian Slater's glory days. It still takes me back there.
When I got a little older and eventually bought a Pixies cd pretty much solely for this song, I was disappointed when it turned out to be the original. So perhaps I'm a little biased in favour of this version.
Original version gets an 8 , this one gets a 6 .

...it's interesting that in this particular song i can't really recognise kim deal's nor frank black's voices, they're blended so smoothly...
Nice segue from The Lively Ones "Surf Rider" to this. Smoooooth.
Was this Jeffrey Dahmer's theme song?
Makes me want to drive my car into the ocean.
Always enjoy when Frank lands the ship, plays a tune, and then zips up to that Intergalactic burger stand or whatever he operates in his spare time.

Ditto. Original song is fun to play in Rock Band!
Classic song from a groundbreaking band that could veer from sweet pop to startling abrasiveness in the blink of an eye -- always with poetically demented lyrics no matter the musical style. Most of what's played on RP falls into the pop category but there's much more out there.
Hhmmm ... interesting. What would you call this? Dark Surf? Not sure it does justice to the song, but I appreciate the experiment.

frank black should have courtney love murder him, maybe that way people would realize that he's about a skrillion times smarter and greater and more influential than kurt and he could assume his rightful throne in the Pantheon
oh right, i forgot, he's fat and ugly, which disqualifies him from being an object of idolatry
never mind frank, stay away from courtney and keep up the great work!

Hmm, loosely translates to "we're going to california, but don't pee in the ocean. We're going to hit the ocean's first tube, and the surf rider'll get mutilated..."
Is there any shark songs to follow up?

Classic song from the 80s American indie underground scene. Loved that era.

Yeah, in the States that guy could be a realtive of Spuds Mackenzie, and let's not forget Target dog! See Spot Save.
WOW, bullterrier!
is it me or do I hear the Pixies more on the average day on RP than I did in the entire 90's? I even saw them live once back before I ever heard of them. The playlist around here certainly leans in Frank Black's direction.

You weren't. This version really doesn't compare to the original. It's pretty lame.
Bleh song, good emoticon!

Doh! I didn't get a good listen but this version sounded different than the one on Doolittle. Good stuff.
Yehhhhhhh. I dig the mellow bend.
Usually cool covers, incl. this single...
Cool. Weird, but cool...

How eloquent. I don't agree, but you made me smile anyway. Is it this particular version of the song you refer to, or the Pixies in general?
