Batten up the hatches, here comes the cold
I can feel it creeping, and it's making me old
You give me so much love that it blows my brains out

You need something better than the bacon and eggs
The creaking in the walls and the banging in the bed
You give me so much love that it blows my brains out

Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind

My love giving me head, feeling very guilty, breaking the bread
Losing my attention, I'm taking the world on
So batten up the hatches, here comes the cold
I can feel it creeping, and it's making me old
You give me so much love that it blows my brains out

Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind

My love, my love, my love, oh my love

Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind

Summer rain, dripping down your face again
Summer rain, praying someone feels the same
Take the pain killer, cycle on your bicycle
Leave all this misery behind
Leave all this misery behind (summer rain)
Leave all this misery behind (summer rain)
Leave all this misery behind (summer rain)

I recently saw Turin Brakes live, playing the whole Ethersong  album in its entirety to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Excellent band, still as good as ever.
love the Partridge Family vibe 😁

yeah! been there, too.

I just had my brakes turned at NAPA!

it does me, too! i love the harmonies in the chorus. for some reason it reminds me of something else that i cannot put my finger on.

anyway, not my normal jam, but i love this. solid 8.

I know the feeling!
Part of this excellent tune reminds me of Spacehog - In The Meantime.
Would much rather the original.
Terrific track, thanks Bill
Nice
Jane says, "I'm done with Sergio"

New speakers and amp helping highlight the cool sound of this one, woodblock (not cowbell?)  for the win!!   LLRP!!
Adored their debut album and like a fair amount of their following tracks, this included - the title track on this album is great to chill too - is it hidden, or am I mis-recalling? Will Google now...
I am from Turin, Italy and love this band!
Possibly the best thing ever to come out of ....Balham!
Sarf London...
I love it! There is something so magical, so perfect in the rocking ebb and flow of their catchy rhythms, and it grabs me every time. Bravo!

One of my favorite bands! Such a good album.
really dig these guys... another band comes to me through the ears of Bill

Yeah...I also noticed that line....kinda like the Kings of Leon song "Sex on Fire" - and as long as nobody got arrested for the public display I say long live RH!!  And Long Live RP too.  I'm giving this one a 9 cuz it's fine.

I love the sound of this song, sort of what I like in general in pop music, and it happens to be raining in the Seattle area on this 17th of July (Summer Rain!) - and I'll go +.49 on my 9 rating....it's almost a 10 for me ...Long Live RP!!

Wow, CSI as a reference point for understanding life, sad.
Love blew my brains out when I was 17 - 20 and had the obsessive, intensse, all-encompassing, deepest love I ever had for that 1st (often greatest) love of my life.  It was too intense and I knew it, when it ended I was simultaneously relieved (kind of forced it's ending) and devastated.  So I get the metaphor as a felt experience.
"You give me so much love that it blows my brains out"

What a revolting image.  I can understand the colloquialism "blows my mind", but extending that to "blows my brains out" is a bit to far for me.  It's hard to not imagine it literally... perhaps I have seen too many episodes of CSI.

Or 1980's Prime Ministers.
great band, and this is one of their catchiest songs {#Dancingbanana_2}
Great band, beautiful voice!
Hit me like a summer thunderstorm when it came out, and still hits me so, especially since the most sinister one so far just now blew over!
Getting a Sea Legs vibe from the acoustic guitar riff. Nice song.
Nice!
brings to mind G Love and Special Sauce....dig it
Unique sound and a pretty good album, all round.  Their newer material doesn't have their old appeal, I feel.
I dug this immensely when it first jumped out at me years ago, and I still think it's probably their best song; stunning beat, wicked rhythms!
Nice,  I have not heard this one in while,   Thanks!
I remember being captivated by this unusual, but well crafted little song, with its slightly baffling lyrics, back in 2006, around the time they were performing here in Brighton. Btw they don't sound like anyone but Turin Brakes, it's a stubbornly individual sound.

So judging by the dates on the song comments, this one gets played about 1 time a year on average? That can't be right. I'd love to have access to the stats on songs.

You can. Just gotta dig a little.

That would be - Set the Dog on Fire. At least that's how my ten year old daughter sings it.

It's amusing to see all the "sounds like " comments. Just shows how everyone brings their own listening history and references to each new song. I hear a lot of Blind Melon, and now I miss Shannon Hoon.
I'm hearing T. Rex, and that's a good thing.
First time I have heard them...quite excellent. Thanks Bill.  Nice change from the trip down 70's lane.
I've heard a few songs by this band...so far I like!

Pretty good song. Although the guy singing sounds like he could use a pain killer.

the most amazing thing just happened during this song. while i'm in my office listening to this, we have random classical music playing out in the hallway over the PA system. this song and the piece just playing went along perfectly, the string arrangements fit right in, whenever there would be a buildup that would peak, cymbals would crash or drums would roll. i'm giving this song a 10 for godlike because a coincidence like that seems like an act of god, figuratively speaking.
dude i'm definitely playing this album while watching the "wizard of oz" now. ...but the song still gets a 2.

You got to get out of that cubical man!!
God, this is good. Crisp, exciting harmonies and cool, well-timed guitar work. Stays in your head for a nice while!
Awesome, catchy. Sometimes the voice reminds me just a bit of thom yorke ... or starsailor.

I really like this...but then I'm a sucker for certain types of pop songs. The musical equivalent of a good street hot dog with onions & mustard & maybe a (cheap) beer on a summer afternoon when you're hungry & your defenses are way down. And you know it's really not very good, but it's just so damn tasty and then there just happen to be some crispy onions in the mix that are EXACTLY the way you like them (and there are several crispy onions in this mix!) and all of a sudden it's a really...great...hot dog. And as a cyclist, I like the cycle on your bicycle thingee too.
Wow, what a literary!!!! amazing.. Thanks for sharing that, I like it.

I saw them play live at the Troubadour. Most excellent.

i didn't think much about the name of the group, but when i first heard it, i thought it might have even been the indigo girls with someone singing backup with them. i figured if they could have a ska song, they could easily do something like this... dwhayslett wrote:

I wonder if the "take the pain killer/cycle on your bicycle" line is a reference to Albert Hofmann's bicycle trip after the accidental discovery of LSD?
