It's staying in... It's gonna find another way(yeah)
As I sit here in this misery I don't
Think I'll ever See the sun from here
And oh as I fade away
They'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,
Hey, look at him I'll never live that way
But that's ok,
They're just afraid to change
And when you feel life ain't worth living
You've got to stand up, and
Take a look around, then you look up way to the sky
And when your deepest thoughts are broken,
Keep on dreamin' boy, 'cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die
And as we all play parts of tomorrow
Some ways we'll work, and other ways we'll play
But I know we can't all stay here forever
So I will write my words on the face of today....
And they'll paint it
And oh As I fade away
They'll all look at me and say, and they'll say
Hey look at him, and where he is these days
When life is hard you have to change
When life is hard you have to change

Shannon Hoon

Chris Cornell

…this list goes on and on. This is what happens when Grunge picked up the heroin lifestyle and glamorized it after everyone else and figured out that it was a dead end with the tragic losses in the 70s.
But Eddie Vedder lives, we should be very grateful for that.
None of those people ever accepted the "grunge" title, it was put upon all of them without their consent.
My husband died suddenly two weeks ago. He was 47, as am I. I always loved this song, but dang this resonates with me today
I am so, so sorry.
Did that really happen?
yes. from an eyewitness in the crowd in Vancouver that night. It was during the performance of No Rain. Ironically, a city known for its rain. The irony was not lost that night.
you don't become a heroin addict because it's a lifestyle that has been glamorized. we are a nation of addicts. we are always seeking escape and relief and it was made easily available in pill form by the Sacklers and Purdue Pharma. that began in the 90s and was ignored until now.
oh, and btw, you can add Mark Lanegan
Agreed, with extra emphasis on how big pharma PUSHED their "medicines" on people.

And now we got a drug that makes heroin look like salt-water taffy. Worse yet, you don't even have to shoot the shit up - they're fricken lacing joints with it (and killing people). I wish we could get all the people profiting from fentanyl, and put them in a cage together. :(

Chris Cornell died from suicide. But your larger point is spot on.
Did that really happen?
Still I try to live by his words.

Same here. Hotboxing the car in the 90's and listening to this album.
well, if he is so great then he left just in time like all the other greats before him...
All time favorite from this great, short lived band.

Well said. 8 -> 9
Actually, I think pumpkins are classed as a vegetable. Tomatoes, thought of as a vegetable, are actually a fruit.
Botany class is over. Back to RP recess.
Botanically, pumpkins are "classed" as fruits - they have self-contained seeds and are the ripened ovaries of flowering plants, as are tomatoes. Vegetables are generally stems, buds, roots, bulbs, or leaves of edible plants. Sorry for interrupting recess: as you were.
I don't feel the sun's comin' out today
It's staying in, it's gonna find another way.
As I sit here in this misery,
I don't think I'll ever, no lord, see the sun from here.

How about Smashing Pumpkins? Pumpkins are scientifically speaking, a fruit. Oh, and Bananarama and Tangerine Dream.

I believe it was cocaine that killed Shannon.

Love this tune.
Wow...I sure agree with you on that!
It can't be helped.. Some people simply don't have the intellect to appreciate music as good as this.
It can be argued that taste and aesthetics, philosophically, have little to do with "intellect" or reason, but feel free to insult those who do not agree with your tastes if it makes you feel better.
send her my way...
Bee girl!
From Klosterman's blog:
"People will never stop talking about the handful of musicians who died at age 27 <...>. Otis Redding died at 26 and Bradley Nowell died at 28, so they won't be mentioned the next time some bozo writes a story about "The Curse of 27.""
Exactly... I'm sure lots of musicians died at 25, and at 26, and at 28 (like Shannon), and so on... I have a feeling that if you average it all out, 27 has absolutely no significance. In fact, I would further suggest that you would just start to see a bit of a rise around 75 or 80, but that doesn't make news...
Shannon Hoon death from a cocaine overdose in 1995... wasn't he 27? Another sad sad loss... this is a fine song...

After this remark, I can't help but feel relieved that it has been my good fortune to have always liked this band.
As far as categorizing his death as a tragic loss, I don't see this as any more of a reach than saying the same about Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, or JFK, for that matter. Public figures (entertainers or otherwise) have an impact on people's lives, and the sudden loss of these figures also has an impact. To me, Shannon's death was tragic, in that a) he was a young man in his prime with a young family and his daughter will now have to grow up without a father, and b) his music & lyrics are inspirational, and the fact that he died means that the force behind the music died with him.
Nicely said.
sorry I meant ascared
