En ensam kvinna söker en man
Svar till: Hjärtat talar sant
En pessimist i sitt livs form
Jag vädrar blod, det luktar sorg

En utomjordings kärlekstörst
En undran vem som svek vem först
Ät fett och socker tills du spyr
Eller blir en fyra-tonsmartyr
Sälj dig, sälj dig dyrt

Kom låna törnekronan min
Lid för konsten eller brinn
Jag slåss och håller kroppen varm
En dröm om mammas ömma famn

En utomjordings kärlekstörst
En undran vem som svek vem först
Och jag blir gärna en martyr
Vi behöver nog en ny
Sälj dig, sälj dig dyrt

Ett långfinger åt döden
Vi gick över lik
Och skylta' med vår kärlek,
vårt rika inre liv
Men plåtarna till himmlen
var slut när vi kom dit
Och priset vi betalat
För att klassas som elit
Var att vi blev som dom andra
Vi blev som dom andra
Vi blev som dom andra

Och vi kommer inte längre
Vi är tillbaks på noll
Men ingen kommer sörja
Vi har spelat ut vår roll
Vi glömmer hela skiten
Det betyder ingenting
Vi skulle kommit längre
Men räckte inte till
Vi blev som dom andra
Vi blev som dom andra
Vi blev som dom andra

I have no idea why, but agree with the your premise that there seems to be a disproportionate number of superb Swedish musicians. Since RP is curated, we should consider the  possibility is that it is due to a bias.

whistling? nope. can't stand it. gotta block that out.
but the rest is fun and i make up my own english lyrics since i can't speak swedish and i can't translate what they're singing about. it's kind of fun.

I always get happy when this song runs and I see your comment. Makes me think of my own Lotta :)
I agree with everything that they sing!

What's wrong with Abba? My sister and I would pretend to be Abba when we were little.

Kent! When i listening to music, I almost always end up again with the favourite band Kent!

Never been able to see them live, but this October, I will see them before they breakup in December.

They have a album called Isola, the album is out in both swedish and english check it out!

Agreed.  Thank you, bikinikaratebabe.  Even in English, the words have their own nuance and evocative presentation.  I had never heard this before, but I like it a lot.  More so now that I have an idea of what's being conveyed in the lyrics.  Very interesting phrasing and some wicked-good imagery. Giving this a 7 until I hear it a few more times...

Thank you @bikinikaratebabe!
Miss you Cynaera...
Not sure if my browser is decoding the Swedish alphabet wrong or if it's the site, but the lyrics are all messed up.  Not that I could understand Swedish anyway but it's fun to try to follow along sometimes.
Nice kitty.  Cool tune, too.  Kent usually gets a 6 right off the bat for me.
This is great but the last few albums they have ditched the guitars and are trying to be a Swedish Depeche Mode.

Thought i could give you guys a quick translation of the lyrics... It's quite hard to translate it because the lyrics are pretty weird in swedish too. it's one of ultimate favorite songs, but being norwegian I'm sure there are some of the sentences i don't translate right because of the slight differences in the languages.

A lonely woman is searching a man.
Answer to: The heart tells the truth.
A pessimist in it's way of life
I sense blood, it smells like mourning.
An alien's thirst of love
A question of who betrayed whom first.
Eat fat and sugar till you throw up
or become a four-tons martyr.

Sell yourself, sell yourself at a high price.

Come borrow my crown of thorns
Suffer for the art or burn.
I'm fighting and keeping my body warm
A dream of being in my mama's tender arms.
An aliens thirst for love
A question of who betrayed whom first.
And I will readily become a martyr
We most likely need a new one

Sell yourself, sell yourself at a high price

Flip off death
we walked over copses
and flashed our love,
our rich inner lives.
But the plates (note: i guess to walk on) up to heaven
were no more when we got there.
And the price we payed to be classified as elite
was to become like the others
We became like the others
We became like the others

And we aren't getting further
We are back at zero.
But no one will mourn
We have played our parts.
We will forget this shit
it doesn't mean anything.
We should have gotten further
But we weren't good enough

We became like the others
We became like the others
We became like the others

well, as i realize now, the song doesn't really work as well in english. it's something about the lyrical way Kent sings this song (and all other songs) in that just can't be translated. but now u at least know what the song is about. in my opinion it's about how everybody is trying to be special, and in this pursuit everybody ends up as the same...

{#Clap} Thanks for this. I picked this up in Sweden on a visit a couple of years back, and although I could understand only a tiny fraction of the words (thanks to watching Wallander :)) I really love the sound of their singing in Swedish. It's nice to have a good idea of what the song's about.

I do envy Scandinavians as your languages are so close, so your average Swede/Norwegian/Dane has 3 languages even before s/he picks up English (which many speak better than the English) and German.

Yeah. Swedish? Really? I've been singing along to this all this time and didn't realize I was mumbling in Swedish ;0)
Swedish? I just thought they were slurring their english.
I think if this song wasn't in swedish some words would be bleeped out..

Normally I hate whistling, but it works here.
I wish they would come to the US on tour, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Sounds like the Eagles' "Last Resort" the way you describe it there ;)  Different point of course, but still...
Thanks for this translation.
I always wondered what they were saying in this song. I wish they would do a few more songs in English, but maybe it's a lot of work to try and translate.

Equivalently: everybody tries to be a non-conformist and ends up being... a conformist.  Adolescence angst to a T.

Or let's try an ecological spin with a distinct American and Canadian flavour:

Everybody wants a big honkin' house on hectare of land in paradise.  Then everybody builds the same big honkin' house and the next thing you know you have a valley or hill side full of similar houses in what has become a boring low-density suburb.  Now the place looks like crap.

Thinking parts of California, Arizona, Colorado, increasingly the interior of British Columbia.

And yes, all these places used to look beautiful and very special.

Katish, and wonderful.
Slett ikke så verst kjære naboer :)

The opening of this song sounds like "The Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush. Then from there on in... no resemblance.
One of the best Kent 's songs
Oh my, this brings back so many memories :)

Excellent song from an excellent album. Kinda subdued - but very well craftet pop/rock.
bought it & love it. Emotional ending..even though I don't know the language.

Er...The others? Loved it, and this also...I tend to lean towards anything I cannot understand.
Uhhh, sorry Bill, this song is not about Jesus. It's about The Others. However, Jesus appears in Socker from the same album (which, by the way, is entitled Vapen & Ammunition ).
Wow, after a Three-Jesus set, I had hoped they'd conclude it with something by, say, MC 900 Foot Jesus. Or maybe Jesus & Mary Chain? Jesus Jones? I mean, C'mon! (Personal Jesus by D-M would have been too obvious...) Oh well - I'll take this.
Bill suggested it might be about Jesus... turns out it's an ode to the female android designed after Mr. DeLouise. Who knew?
You can sing along during the whistling part: "Rubber Ducky, you're the one..."

I prefer the music over the voice.
Kind of bored with Kent right now, they are a wee bit overplayed (and overpayed, judging by the lyrics on the latest album?) here in Sweden. Still, I was a diehard fan just a few years ago. Fun to hear some swedish lyrics on RP nevertheless. :) EDIT: nitpicker's note - the title of the song is gramatically flawed. It is supposed to be "De andra", not "Dom andra".

Whistling sounds like . . . one of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns?? Something unsettling about this, but I'll reserve ultimate judgment.

Nice song overall, IMHO. There are a lot of songs with english lyrics that are no more understandable than the words in this song. Had I not been reading the comments here, I would have never suspected it was in any language other than english. Just sounds like he's slurring the words like many other singers do. (For example, I can't understand the vast majority of the words in the song that followed this today -- Stereophonics-Getaway.)
This is precisely the reaction I had while listening to this song. I thought the vocalist was doing some sort of pretentious artsy vocalise...After awhile, I got caught up in the melody and decided it was a decent song.
