You won't hear this played anywhere else besides RP, all thanks to Bill. I was lucky enough to see Mr. Beck live, 2 times, both at the beloved Spectrum in Philadelphia. back in the mid 70's.  He toured for both Blow By Blow and Wired. Absolutely amazing. He played Pork Pie Hat, of course. Some great musical memories from the many concerts I attended growing up. I started young in NYC, then to Philly and then the D.C. area. I saw them all. But these 2 shows were highlights for sure!

I now lean towards Symphonic Metal, Prog Metal, and some Power Metal, but this is my day to day listen and my choice at work, especially since moving back up to the U.P. the local stations, bar one out of Door County, are dreadful, (some sound exactly like they did back in 1984, when I left), or blast you with the stupid news hourly.

This song struck all of our 16 years old souls. Driving down the H-3 brings me straight back. Songs like this, for me, are like plugging a fuzzy Thumb drive into my brain with distant, but distinct memories. Getting sentimental in my 'old age',  I suppose.
this entire album and Blow By Blow really upped the bar for rock/jazz guitar playing. It also helps that every player on both albums were at the top of their game.
Just saw the updated Ziggy Stardust concert film done for the 50th anniversary (gulp 50 years?!). The video and audio were remastered and definitely improved. Most significant is there are 2 songs never included before - and guess who the guest star is (for Gene Genie & Round & Round)....yup! It' s very cool - check it out!

Exactly the same here!   I wound up having to buy a new record!  ...May he REST IN PEACE!!

One of the best guitar players ever.

But sometimes the covers of jazz standards (e.g., this song, Round Midnight)  by RnR guys just don't sound right.

Maybe an Eddie Reynolds modded "Suitcase Rhodes"?  The attack is softer than a "Stage Rhodes" on this tune.

That's definitely possible, although one shouldn't discount the fact that the album was produced by George Martin, so who knows what signal processing magic happened...?

Feeling a need to dig up the old vinyl and play this at high volume!  Bought this my senior year in high school.

RIP Jeff

RIP Jeff

I Agree with this post from 6yrs ago!!   May Jeff Rest In Peace!
Pure gold.  Be thankful to live in an era where you can continue to enjoy, and from the originator, such as this.  Some say long may Beck reign and I agree.  But I also feel the need to say that long may our civilization thrive and reign.

Despite all the issues and concerns that need no elaboration, and baby there are a plethora of 'em to contend with,  it really comes to this.  We live in a golden age folks.  So enjoy it as best you may!

Thank you for playing some Jeff Beck. Rest in peace Jeff Beck.
Shocked and saddened to hear the news.
Jeff Beck was without question one of the
all-time greats, arguably the best to ever
pick up a guitar.
From the quietest ballads to the raunchiest rockers, Jeff was a true master.
I encourage everyone to check out the Live at Ronnie Scott's concert; I think it captures his genius, and humility.
RIP Jeff, it breaks my heart that you are gone.

Jeff takes me back to the Yardbirds - what a wonderful time to be alive.

R.I.P.
RIP Jeff, the music world will be a lesser place with out your presence. You will be missed.
Perfect. And perfect timing. RIP.
Oh Jeff!  This has got to b a favorite.

2nd to Mingus, this is the best version of this tune!
Delicious tone.  Many would do well to learn to play clean like that.
The best cover of Pork Pie Hat?

Not heard this before - love Nadia - Jimmy Smith with 6 strings - just fantastic
Great use of Stereo! 9 might turn into a 10 soon.

Of all the JB songs I cherish this is the one I always return to and am never ceased to be amazed. Others in this vein include Suspension, Angel Footsteps, Hipnotica, and especially, Nadia. Also, likely my favorite album cover of all time.
Jeff Beck in his prime.  People will argue with me, but I don't think there's ever been a better jazz guitarist.  Yes, there are more complicated chord progressions, but who has that tone in any genre?  Okay maybe second to Django Reinhardt.  Btw, I'd like to hear a lot more of him on RP.
Simply Sublime.

Totally agree. Never heard that no one wanted to jam with JB. Even AC/DC played with the Stones.

Since it was produced by the GOAT (George Martin) I think I'll take his ears over yours.
I remember the album cover in the record stores. Would be years before I really heard the record. Too young to appreciate the music then, but I knew it was cool, man, just from that cover.

From Wikipedia:
Beck has said that he first heard an electric guitar when he was 6 years old and heard Paul playing "How High the Moon" on the radio. He asked his mother what it was. After she replied it was an electric guitar and was all tricks, he said, "That's for me".

So yeah...pretty much!
one of those deep cuts hardly anyone knows about.this very reason is why radio paradise is indeed paradise, they play such a diverse selection of music.everthing from deadmau5 to moby, thank you radio paradise for not playing the same tired music like others may want you to.

There was a retrospective done of Jeff Beck.  I suppose there have been a few given his extraordinary nature, but this one was fairly recent.  One of the people who commented about him, and I cannot recall exactly who it was off the top of my head though the person was female, she said.

"Jeff Beck doesn't just play music.  He IS music."

I cannot disagree.  This guy is the embodiment of someone tapped into a main vein from the musical source.  He's almost literally a force all his own.  If from his perspective his is an epiphany it's one of the longest running, continuous, ones I've ever had the pleasure to follow and experience.  May he live a long, long, time and keep that fount open and flowing.  It is marvelous.

Is that better or worse than them wearing cowboy hats?

The cowboy hats provide more protection from the sun, rain, snow and overhanging branches when riding horses on the range.  (Modern cowboys tend to prefer a peaked baseball-style hat.)

As for wearing a cowboy hat while driving the F-350 truck to the mall to go shopping.....   I guess it is a fashion preference just like any other.
Nice. Great cover of Charles Mingus' original, and I'm singing Joni Mitchell's voice in my head recalling her great cover of the same.

Ha. I furrowed my brow and thought "A Jeff Beck song I haven't heard?" I then came over to look it up and saw that I had already rated this one a '9' at some point. So apparently, I've enjoyed this bit of Jeff Beck mastery a lot both times I have heard it.
Masterpiece for the ages! Mingus wrote it (and also did it well), but it's Jeff Beck's unique BLUESY ROCK take that makes it transcend!
