Yeah, hey, hey
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams will take you very far, yeah
But when you wish upon a dream
Life ain't always what it seems, oh yeah
What you see on nights so clear, hey
In the sky so very dear, yeah?
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
(What you could truly be)
Shining star come into view
To shine its watchful light on you
Give you strength to carry on, yeah
Yeah, make your body big and strong, yeah
Born a man-child of the sun, yeah
Yeah, saw my work had just begun
Yeah, found I had to stand alone, yeah
Bless it now, I've got my own
Oh yeah, oh yeah
So, if you find yourself in need
Why don't you listen to these words of heed
Be a giant or grain of sand
Words of wisdom, yes, I can
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see

Oh hell yes
This sounds so good to my ears today
I am in agreement with others who say we would like to hear more EWF here!
Oh yes, this is hitting the spot this morning.
Thank you Bill! Always good to hear some classic R&B.
Get the funk out! Now hit me with some Parliment/Funkadelic

Earth, Wind, and Fire will open for Carlos Santana here in August. I'm looking forward to the show. Gotta be on watch for a summer storm.

yeah
Easily one of the best concerts I ever experienced. Polished, tight, pristine sound, and the best funk at that time. Phillip Bailey was otherworldly.

The future was beige! (late 70's decor)
But this song sure wasn't - frikkin' love it.
Some cold stone grooves, that just make you smile and wiggle your ass.
Jamiroquai, take these cool pants and eat them, you never had ANYTHING on these guys!

The correct answer is 11.
Hearing this particular song from EW&F makes me realize why I subscribe to RP! I just love surprises like this and love the mix of curated music that's available.
Would love to hear more of this genre on RP!
Songs like this make me wonder what the hell happened to R&B over the last 40 years.

1976 Boston dorm party flashback: Bernie makes sardonic, very funny fun of EWF, lauds Zappa and the Mothers. I blast Bachman Turner Overdrive and blow bong smoke in his face.
I will forever love the pure funk joy of this song.

Wow...really!? I never thought I would hear EWF on RP! What a pleasant surprise. Lest we not forget the 70's rock we loved so much had a funk analog in the amazing R&B talent of the same era.
I agree with the other listeners who are requesting more EW&F songs. What a great sound from an exciting time in music history !! Always gets you movin'.
They was a time when a Number 1 song would be awesome.
With all the crappy news coming off the wire of late, it's good to funk it up and let it go. Thanks Bill, good job.

I used to play this as a DJ when it came out. . . it was, in the lingo of the time. . . a bit of a floor filler.

HELL YES!
EW&F's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 was one one of my first cassettes. Some may call it sacrilege, but one of the few remakes that I like better than the original is their take on The Beatles' "Gotta Get You Into My Life." More of a reinvention than a remake, really, and chock full o' funk.

I would like to see Seinfeld's Elaine dancing to this one...I used to have a killer K-Tel record with this on it
This is what keeps bringing me back to RP and contributing to your operating expenses on a regular: the wonderfully eclectic mix of excellent uplifting and energizing music that spans multiple genres and decades of recording artistry! Love this EWF track.
Play more EWF, Bill. You introduced this song as if you almost had to apologize. Bring it!
NIIIIIINE!
Great tune - some tasty bass playing on this number.

most excellent! please, may we have some more?
"September" is not on the playlist?!?
How can one not like this song.
Hooray, something new and fresh in the PSD.
I used to play this loads when I was a dj back in '75. Always a dance floor filler and still sounds great today. Thanks for giving me some great memories :)
Even better when following Louis Prima!
Surprised to hear EW&F on RP !! But not a bad thing. Variety is the spice o life.
An EWF member or two had a spinoff band in the late '70s called Caldera.
More on the Funk/Fusion side but fun stuff.

Saw them not long ago, right here in Austin. They tore the place up!
Oh, funk yeah!
Yet another reminder about what was RIGHT in the 1970s!! More EWF.

Saw these guys in concert after a recent Detroit-Tampa baseball game. They were a shadow of their former selves. Shame.
This is just a BADA$$ song..
Oh yeah! This is some kinda KOOOLLL Old School. Great addition to the mill, thanks for giving it a twirl.
EWF is one of those really good memories from the '70's, unlike Foreigner (factually just awful — SF (scientific fact)), that guy from Jersey (sorry that's my opinion), Bob Seger and the other Motor City madman (IMO again). The sad news is that my high school buds, at least the guys that is, couldn't stand any dance music and tended to the aforementioned meat-head music, but the gals sure liked it. Needless to say, I figured that sitch out fast but had to get my dancing groove taken care of on the sly — a new spin on that good ole' paradox of cool vs. hot.

Easily the best funk band of all time. Seen them several times and their performances are VERY energetic, especially Verdine!
One of the BEST shows in my long concert career...Phillip Bailey was god-like...late 80's I believe
Where did I leave that Polyester Leisure Suit ?

Right on! I had to do a double take to see if this was RP! Great variety.
Loved this! I saw them on the TV Land Awards last night. Still got it!
Jive turkey? ;^ )
I am soooo enjoying these monday morning tunes. JIVE baby!
I need a coffee cup with a lid...this dancing can be messy.
Shining Star is best served with Gratitude.....along with Singasong, Reasons (Maurice wigs out ) and of course Sunshine....all very fine indeed.

There's this great video, Earth Wind & Fire In Concert, filmed in Oakland on New Year's Eve 1981. It's the classic band with both Maurice White and Philip Bailey on vocals. The best part is just watching Verdine White (all 7'10" of him) on bass. Locks every groove in a death grip. Simply awesome.
