See here we have a beautiful view of the earth down below,
As the satellite departs.

She smells of the sun,
And she's constantly saying,
That's it's all a lie,
Because lies, sound so nice,
And like soil to seed goes,
Casting my fears aside...

She says: "The satellite is coming."
I pray, the wrecking ball is waiting,
She says: "The satellite is coming.
It's come to take us home."

Satellite...

Still smells of the sun,
And the light that brings healing,
Is burning my eyes,
And the dark, seems so nice,
And I'm choking on blessings, that I can receive
I hide.

She says: "The satellite is coming."
I pray, the wrecking ball is waiting,
She says: "The satellite is coming.
It's come to take us home."

She says: "The satellite is coming."
I pray, the wrecking ball is waiting,
She says: "The satellite is coming.
It's come to take us home."

She says: (Satellite)
"The satellite is comming"
I pray, (She)
The wrecking ball is waiting,
She says: "The Satellite is comming,
It's come to take us home."

So today, 8 --> 10.
A gem I would have never encountered in my everyday.
One of the first songs that caught my ear when I discovered RP. Been hooked ever since.
Overplayed— That's OK, I love it. Wish we could have claimed this song in the 70s.
Nice song... crappy cd/album cover!
I'm voting yes; no hanging chads.

For a lot of us boomers that grew up during the space age and were nerds, we think it's pretty cool.  Just listening to some of the recordings, I wonder at times where that desire to explore and do really cool things went, at least as a nation.  Kudos to the private entities out doing cutting edge space development, but it really pales in comparison to what we as a nation could do it we wanted to do.  We went from Mercury to Apollo in under 10 years.

First Great Law of BT: That his music is not really all that interesting or catchy. It's really pretty to listen to and incredibly well produced, but it's like one of those meals at a fancy, 4-star restaurant delivered by three waiters, with off-white powder and intricate splotches of red sauce around the edges of the plate. And in the middle, one asparagus. BT's music is like that. Brilliant presentation and even more brilliant execution, but no substance. No hook. No feel. No actual meal. He is the Don "No Soul" Simmons of electronic music. He just doesn't get it.

lol Ishkur... that brings back some memories

This is where my memory of the story becomes hazy, but there was a big storm that week, and one day they came into the studio to find that the ceiling had caved in directly over the main mixing console, and it took a nice big drink.  Leading up to this, the engineer had been having some issues with the studio owner's personality, and things were understandably tense in the aftermath of the flood.  I forget the details, but as I recall the owner of the studio eventually lost his cool, and the engineer subsequently lost his, and delivered a profanity-laden "I quit" speech, with middle fingers in the air, whilst standing on top of the mixing desk.  I don't know if BT finished tracking the album at that studio.

Nice set- love me some space themed astro music... Excellent would-be genre!
tripe
Meh. Doesn't do it for me. Bland, Middle of the road boring.

Used to live in a small development where there was a lady known to all as B.T.

It was her habit to lean over her windowsill on the second floor and, given her huge breasts, this cleavage was a vertical exclamation mark.

Hence the name.

Wonder why so many songs have archival space talk in them? Not saying it's good or bad, just odd.

Stirs memories of a former life. Sadness, but sweet melancholy. {#Music}
+1 for ESCM being one of the best albums ever.

BT needs to revisit that sound.
Very talented bloke is Brian. You might think that it's all Europop, if you do, you're wrong. ESCM should be in the top 100 albums of all time.

Funny, apparently at some point I rated it a 7. Which means I had listened to it atleast twice and rated it, but have no recollection of doing so. Revising my rating to reflect OK but apparently not memorable.
After Cloud Cult then this, I can hear D. Bowie's "Major Tom" as a good follow-up.
I'm liking this in a big way!

Odd, first time I recall hearing it and I have never rated it either and I have been listening to RP since the early 2000's.

I saw the song come on the playlist before it started playing and thought "Hey, something new!" Then it started and I thought "oh, I know this." And you're right, I've heard it many times... never looked up to see who it was, never rated it. I guess that means it's a 6.

edit: but now I see I commented on it before. Hmm. I would have sworn before today I never heard of an act called "BT."

I bought a cd/dvd of his a few years ago. It was more about the multimedia production than just the songs. It was very interesting, some of it was good.

How much your life has changed in a time period can significantly affect the perceived distance... for me, it seems really long ago, since I reached my full height, graduated high school and college, worked assorted jobs, and got my real job in that time period.
Downgraded to "Ho-Hum". Where is this going?

Very True... TBU is very cool stuff. Make sure you watch the video as well to get the full effect.
The beginning makes me think of a song by Train (forgetting the title at the moment).
Next we should hear Laura Veirs' Galaxies. BT - Satellite A-Ha - Minor Earth Major Sky Sarah Harmer - Lodestar
His new album "This Binary Universe" is full DVD of 5.1 intelligent audio goodness.

this one nailed a "Planet P" nerve from WAY back in the 80's - anyone old enough to admit remembering THEM?
I'm a big Planet P fan. Tony Carey was awesome. I have half a dozen mp3s from that first album. Maybe it's the prevalent keyboards and sci fi theme...
This was a really good techno album, which are somewhat hard to come by.
anyone have the new one?
his new album This Binary Universe is one of the best of the year imo. check it..
I bought this disc on the strength of this tune but was very disappointed. Most of it is kiddie-club-land stuff.
I usually try to avoid comparisons to other bands...but man, this one nailed a "Planet P" nerve from WAY back in the 80's - anyone old enough to admit remembering THEM? Similar sound, similar themes... But, regardless, I do like this song - but I just keep having to check my watch to see if I have to run to my 8am Calculus class...
Brian Transeau .. though I may not like about half the stuff he makes .. is still one of the most brilliant musical minds of our time.
The vocal alternative to Chicane?

This is excellent. For the anoraks out there, I suggest you pick up the original yellow version of the album - the one with the floating baby on the cover - as it doesn't have the (bad) extra tracks that BT through on the re-release.

Another first for me... thanks RP!! Not what I expected from a guy who looks like the lead singer of a boy band. Not bad at all!
Did anyone else notice that this tune is thematically and compositionally derivative of Bill Nelson's "Space ranch" on "whistling while the world turns" Not to mention his "After the satellite sings". All the same; it's not bad.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space.

I can only speak for me, but I'm only motivated to stop what I'm doing and rate a song if I either love it or hate it. There are very few "mid-range" ratings in my profile. A song has got to move me, one way or the other, toward rating it. As for this song, I'm glad to see BT getting play here. Very cool stuff.
This was very nice, kind of dreamy... If I had more of a chance to stop what I'm doing & listen attentively, I might have rated higher than a "7". Jimmy "86"
I must have played this song 2 or 3 hundred times in a row.. helped me veggitate through the loss of my basset and recently now my father. I couldn't drive quietly with all the hurtful thoughts bouncing round up there.. and nothing else seemed to fill the void with as peaceful a feeling.. I'm sure had I a larger selection of music to pull from, I could find other tunes that would do the same.. but it was at hand and was kind of like stepping into cool water on a hot day... instant relief... And that's a kudos to Bill .. for were RP not here... I would not have known about the tune.. and would probably not own the cd.. and probably wouldn't have it in the cd changer of the car at the time.. Thanks Bill.. rough times made better for having RP there.
