Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo
You're living in your own Private Idaho
Living in your own Private Idaho
Underground like a wild potato.
Don't go on the patio.
Beware of the pool,
blue bottomless pool.
It leads you straight
right throught the gate
that opens on the pool.

You're living in your own Private Idaho.
You're living in your own Private Idaho.

Keep off the path, beware of the gate,
watch out for signs that say "hidden driveways".
Don't let the chlorine in your eyes
blind you to the awful surprise
that's waitin' for you at
the bottom of the bottomless blue blue blue pool.

You're livin in your own Private Idaho. Idaho.
You're out of control, the rivers that roll,
you fell into the water and down to Idaho.
Get out of that state,
get out of that state you're in.
You better beware.

You're living in your own Private Idaho.
You're living in your own Private Idaho.

Keep off the patio,
keep off the path.
The lawn may be green
but you better not be seen
walkin' through the gate that leads you down,
down to a pool fraught with danger
is a pool full of strangers.

You're living in your own Private Idaho,
where do I go from here to a better state than this.
Well, don't be blind to the big surprise
swimming round and round like the deadly hand
of a radium clock, at the bottom of the pool.

I-I-I-daho
I-I-I-daho
Woah oh oh woah oh oh woah oh oh
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Get out of that state
Get out of that state
You're living in your own Private Idaho,
livin in your own Private.... Idaho

some bands create their own genre.  ARE their own genre.

Don't go on the patio! Beware of the POOL.. GET OUTTA THAT STATE you're in! So fun to blurt out with the exuberance and verve it deserves! Loved it madly then, love it madly now. Any time with this stuff, RP!

I saw them once at DAR. There was a guy dancing up front with a 3 foot lobster on his head.  Great times.
Ah yes, the B-52's, the sound track for my high school thespian club...

Wow...that scratchy guitar...and Schneider's flat singing on the words "pool" and "beware." I wanna go back to The Channel in Boston, circa 1985 when this was an anthem.

Loving RP Rockin, outdoors at the Old Orchard Ball Park with my wife and 2 daughters. Ziggy Marley opened I believe.

Much Dancing! Today again.
Hello from  -actual Idaho- RP junkies.
Wrong song? This isn’t Private Idaho playing?

You guys have the state songs covered pretty well {#Arrowd}. Gregory Alan Isakov has a song called Idaho on his latest album. It's pretty laid back but it's good.

Going to Montana soon, gonna be a dental floss tycoon - Frank Zappa{#Devil_pimp}
Any song that coins a new term for a societal condition deserves an 8.

Only reason I didn't go 9 is because it's from my own generation, and I don't want to show any bias. OTOH, it's been dang near 30yrs since "Wild Planet" was released, and I still hear people much younger than that say that a clueless person is "..living in their own Private Idaho.." {#Roflol}
Gotta love that hair.

We just caught them here in Peru, probably not the energy they once had, but lots of fun, and who knew that Limeños would know the words to "Love Shack" by heart? Hopefully they're touring near you soon.

Not sure, but I think it came from a music critic who called bands like The Cars, the B-52s and Devo the "new wave of punk..." where is a rock historian when you need one?

Takes me back to middle school. One of the few good parts!

any one knos whats the story behind private idaho and if there's a relation between the song and the moovie by GUs Van Sant?

I'm guessing not. The B-52's songwriting process, apparently, is based pretty much on passing a piece of paper around a table and everyone adding a line. Which explains a lot, I think.

I saw them in SF in like 1980 - one of the best shows I've ever seen. Crazy wild fun.

{#Bananajam}

Interesting.  It was one of the best art films I watched in the 1990s.  Helped lauch a few actors' careers if I am not mistaken.  Bleak but beautiful.

So tell me, is this what they called 'New Wave' music back in the day?

F**K, I wish I had a dollar for every sh*tty mug of keg beer I drank while dancing to this song! I damned sure wouldn't be sittin' here! Ahhh, Hell! Yeah I would. {#Dancingbanana_2}

B-52's are my wife's music era so I know she'd give this song at least a nine.  I don't think I'll let her try, I'd hate to screw up the rating average!  (It's ok, I'm not that old to appreciate B-52's.
