We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singing "Caroline No"
Rollin' down that empty ocean road
Gettin' to the surf on time.
Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.

This song is now forever associated with the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics for me. Long may you run, Neil.

I've seen Neil lots of times, and he's awesome every time! but this song makes me smile to recall the many times my Ozzie mate Geoff played it so passionately and well. First time was when I met him and his wife Vicki at the hot springs in Mataranka. Then again when we met while hanging for weeks of wild times in Cairns. Again, when I visited them twice in Melbourne and they graciously showed me the unsurpassed magnificence of all of Victoria. Long may you run, G&V! Cheers, and drink some VB and Boag's for me, dear mates!

Oh yeah, his energy policies. Wear sweaters and turn down the heat.

Such a nice album cover - I have it on the wall in an album frame.

People have forgotten (or never knew in the case of gen x and younger) how devastatingly horrible a president Carter was.

Always liked this until I found out it's about his car. Makes it a solid 2, and I usually like Neil. Do you have to live in Northern America to appreciate such lyrics?

Neil Young, the king from Canada, he rules.
When will we hear this with the Canadian Olypic Orchestra ?

Well said - I was searching (more) under NY for a reference to Tonight's the Night, and couldn't find one out of 86! Am i missing something Bill? That was classic NY at his best!
This was originally on a late 70's Stills/Young Band record that had a couple of good tunes on it besides this one and was mostly an effort keep busy while Crosby/Nash were out touring and recording.

Where's the fun if we can't simply demonize musicians, politicians, etc.?

I think his brain blew a gasket for a while in the 1980s, which is how we ended up with the likes of Re-ac-tor and Trans. Fortunately he came roaring back in 1989 with Freedom and there have been more ups than downs ever since.

I think the chorus and the arrangement is so good , that i forgave him the thing with the car.

Beautiful song — it's almost enough to make me forgive Neil for supporting Reagan back in the 80s. Anyway, thanks for playing it.

It's strange, when I listen to his voice I don't like it. When I listen to the song as a whole it's magic. I like most covers, but the covers of Neil are always missing something - without his voice it just doesn't work as well.
I think you hit it square on. Neil's voice gives his lyrics an urgency which also gives them credibility and context. Without him they definitely miss something.

Love the reference to Caroline No, a great song in its own right . How 'bout some more Beach Boys on RP?

It's an affectionate ode to a car he owned. That might be why it's snarkfree.
Another album cover ruined by the convenient, unpoetic and soon departing compact disc...

Neil Young has some amazing tunes, but this isn't one of them. Too Eagles-esque for my liking.
Perfect for today.

lol - some would say the same about Cohen and Dylan. However all three have their place in music - deservedly so, imho.

The "Unplugged" version gets some airtime.
Emmylou Harris does a great version of this on a live album that she put out in the late 1970s (I can't remember the name of it though.)

I could listen to Neil all day long. He puts me in a mellow, happy mood.
This holds up surprisingly well.
I've always liked this little ditty.
