It's a fine day
The way the sun hits off the runway
A cloud shifts
The plane lifts
She moves on
But feel the bite
Whenever you believe that
You'll be lost and love will find you
When the road bends
And the song ends
She moves on
I know the reason I
Feel so blessed
My heart still splashes
Inside my chest, but she
She is like a top
She cannot stop
She moves on
A sympathetic stranger
Lights a candle in the middle of the night
Her voice cracks
She jumps back
But she moves on
She says "Ooh my storybook lover
You have underestimated my power
As you shortly will discover"
The I fall to my knees
Shake a rattle at the skies
I'm afraid that I'll be taken
Abandoned, forsaken
In her cold coffee eyes
She can't sleep now
The moon is red
She fights a fever
She burns in bed
She needs to talk so
We take a walk
Down in the maroon light
She says "Maybe these emotions are
As near to love as love will ever be"
So I agree
Then the moon breaks
She takes the corner that's all she takes
She moves on
She says "Ooh my storybook lover
You have underestimated my power
As you shortly will discover"
Then I fall to my knees
I grow weak, I go slack
As if she captured the breath of my
voice in a bottle
And I can't catch it back
But I feel good
It's a fine day
The way the sun hits off the runway
A cloud shifts
The plane lifts
She moves on
Those drums....
Paul Simon has always had excellent percussionists supporting his music. They really make the song move, and the listeners along with it.
"Emptiest" comment on RP ever! What are YOU good at? ...eh?
Probably not much, perhaps emptiest critiques ever?!
Those drums....
And the bass guitar! Thanx RP!
Paul Simon is the emptiest songwriter ever...some truly great songs but they mean nothing to him they are just vehicles...as much as he has done for world music he's still basically a mercenary

Hahaha. You're kidding, right?
Right?
Rrowdie?? Maybe not his best, but tell me any other artist that have some songs that are less than their best hits, but in their portfolio/audiography still great and enjoyable? Tell us your favorite artist, then rank that artist's least ranked song in your opinion. Keep loving music and those that entertain us.

This comment just makes you look silly. Graceland is a lament about the end of Paul Simon's relationship with Carrie Fisher. It is deeply personal, deeply felt, and painfully honest. Now let's have a look at your catalog.
My favorite Paul Simon album of all time. The preceding album, Graceland, achieved more popular success. For me, this one eclipses the high bar set by Graceland. It has more variety, subtlety and grace than Graceland. The richly layered sound is complex and compelling and yet it carries a simple and memorable melody and rhythm in most songs. Thanks Paul for enriching my life with such wonderful music that touches and incorporates influences from around the world.
I concur
SO love the percussion on this song/album really makes it for me.
lyrics are interesting, too
Nothing in 20 years!
Nothing as good as Rhythm, but he did release several albums:
1991 - The Concert in the Park
1997 - Songs from the Capeman
2000 - You're the One
2006 - Surprise
2011 - So Beautiful or So What
2016 - Stranger to Stranger
2018 - In the Blue Light
I'll echo everything you said (quietly of course, cuz the song is still playing and I'm jammin') - and I'll go 9 to 10 today....LLRP!!
If we are lucky, every morning.
absolutely!
If we are lucky, every morning.
her famous entertainment industry parents, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. When she gets to Paul Simon she says that "She Moves On" was the song he wrote about their break up.
A really pleasant groove.
Thank you, Peter_Bradshaw! Hope life is grand for you right now... everybody at my homeless camp be dancing...

This is a fantastic song... love it... love this album...
....... what he said
Ummmmm I think you need to hear Carrie's side. Paul has made many a great musical contribution to the world no doubt, but I wouldn't neccessarily want to hang out with him and certainly would not want any woman I know to be in a relationship with him.
Yes, we have to be careful about automatically siding with the performartist, history has taught that they are usually the abusive ones...

Gets me every time! Oh GOD no... — She Moves On — |
with her
If this is his last great album - what a way to go! This album holds up better than Graceland, in my opinion.
Ermm...He wrote "The Capeman, a musical that bombed on Broadway in '98. He put out the CD "Surprise" in '06. And he came out with a new album, "So Beautiful Or So What" this year; RP has played some of the songs from it.
I've always wondered whether this song is about the end of his marriage to Carrie Fisher—I know he makes reference to her in "Graceland." It just amazes me that they were ever involved; now that I look on Wikipedia, they were together (on and off) for almost ten years. Carrie in her day was doing all sorts of drugs; she had a reputation of being able to party as hard as John Belushi did before that speedball did him in. Then you throw in her bipolar disorder...Paul Simon OTOH seems as mild and clean as a church mouse.
CERTAINLY!!!
PS
Still - nothing new since 1990!
Nothing in 20 years!
The STING-issue...?
COMPLETE BURNOUT...?

I think he is talking about Los Lobos. Go here under Controversy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graceland_%28album%29
I never knew of this before. I went to the cited reference to read the whole interview with Steve Berlin. I was pretty shocked about Paul Simon's alleged attitude and approach. My perspective on the music has done a 180. Shit.

I first learned about this fight over "The Myth of Fingerprints" from another RPer. I tend to believe Los Lobos on this one. If you rely only on the Wikipedia article, Paul Simon pretty much dances around the issue and never states "Yes, I wrote this song on my own."
The way I see it, Paul screwed over Los Lobos when it came to "Myth"—or tried to. But the guy has decades of hits that he undisputedly wrote on his own.
He's on it again! :)
and again. Still good.
Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban - Drume Negrita = 8
The Police - The Bed's Too Big Without You = 8
You're on a roll, Bill!

I hope that's not a complaint!?
UNBELIEVABLE HIS VARIOUS QUALITIES!
Paul Simon - She Moves On
Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban - Drume Negrita
The Police - The Bed's Too Big Without You
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Breaking The Girl
Most interesting...here 6 months later and the same four exact songs just played.
IMO this tune is not that good. Paul Simon is a very talented guy. We would not have heard of a guy named Art Garfunkal if it was not for Paul Simon. You do not know what your talking about.
And we probably wouldn't have heard about Art Garfunkel either..
Art, is that you? vit wrote:

Wow. Did you drop acid today? You're clearly not yourself.
On noes! Not the dreaded Lysergic!
I'd much rather harp about Jesus and have illicit sexual liaisons.
I'm glad you listened! Feel the same.Strange story about a chevy 410. Contact me if you will? Weird!
I'm having a hard time registering on this site, don't normally do this, but a little help will do! Scopiomoon63@ ymail.com. Reply !!!

Chevy 410? where did you come up with that?Wow. Did you drop acid today? You're clearly not yourself.
Peace out.
HA! HA! Everyone's got to have 'off' days. At least he's keeping up on our toes...
I just saw the film "Watchmen" today, and "Sounds of Silence" was used, to great effect, in the soundtrack. As were Dylan, Leonard Cohen, My Chemical Romance, Hendrix, Billie Holliday, Nina Simone, Nat "King" Cole, and Janis Joplin. I can strongly recommend the film, but go to the bathroom before it starts. It's a very intricate story, and the film is nearly 3 hours long!
Wow, that sounds like an amazing soundtrack! I'll have to check it out.

My jaw dropped - I never thought I would hear S & G in a comic book movie! Excellent use of music throughout the film!

Agree on the fact that the soundtrack was great. Disagree, I'm afraid, on the recommendation of the film (and I was a big fan of the graphic novel). But let a thousand flowers bloom!

This is the first positive comment I've ever seen from Excelsior. Hooray, this actually makes me happy! Positive energy, whoohoo. What's more, I completely agree; this is some of Paul's finest work.
