What has been seen cannot be unseen....so now this lives rent-free in my mind forever...
The importance of punctuation...
"Stop clubbing, Baby Seals!" <smile>
A baby seal walked into a club... (apologies...)
I don't find this racist, just in poor taste.
When this song came out I had a roommate who said he didn't understand that line, "In a world full of people, there's only some want to fly."
Not a real fun guy.
Yep, I agree! He was probably a dud at parties!

The image is plainly dehumanizing. Insisting it is mere satire is to assume it does no harm, it's just a joke, we all gotta get over ourselves. But that position varies sharply based on your point of observation. Or, sitting just on the wings of the question: Does it fall under free comment and criticism? Yes, probably. But is it also crude, crass and unenlightened? Yes, it is. And all these tangents are the bilge water that weighs RP down. The site is about a meticulously curated and presented mix of music.
Get over yourself, really. There is nothing crude, crass, or unenlightened about this photo. Exactly the opposite. It is an intelligent combination of words and images to make a humorous statement. The idea that you think this is racist or something tangential displays your own racism and sensitivity. I commented her before about this - Suppose it was a white performer and his or her head were placed on a baby seal? Would that still be as crass, crude , and unenlightened as the image you're commenting on? FWIW, I bet if Seal saw this image he would laugh his ass off.
Racist? No.
In bad taste? Probably.
Kinda gives me the creeps.
Creeps is good. Lets you know you're alive and that there are other things out there...
Please play the single version, absolutely great and no weak parts!
Not a real fun guy.
What's racist about it? Would it be racist if it were a white guy named SEAL? get over yourself.

I suppose it had to be done.
First, I disliked.... but then I liked. Weird.

omg to the square... hahaha damn this is... CRAZY
Now that is disturbing
He was a little crazy.

Yes. Contributing to herd immunity.....
Terrific music for the pandemic!
I tested positive but am not worried at all as I have been largely asymptomatic.

I suppose likening a black man to an animal might not be racist under certain circumstances. Eye of the beholder though, might argue against taking the chance.

OMG LOLZ ROTFL
This is dehumanizing imagery. It is way past time to have moved past this form of representation. Plus, the man can sing.
And it's just not even witty.

Awwww yeah

I was unsure if this needed a thumbs up or down at first, but after a moment of reflection I wonder if any artistic, comedic or sarcastic merit is completely overshadowed by it being really racist.

Oh Dear lord....Thumbs up or Thumbs down
It's a pun. Seal and clubs..
Call the pun patrol!!

This image is soooo creepy, I am at lost for words except take it down.

Racist?
Juvenile maybe, though how the hell is it racist?

A particularly weak one about a topic sure to troll but, yes it's a pun.

Still playing catch up.... 7-=>8.

I just went to a 10

Just to clarify, the thumbs down I gave is for the posting of this picture, and not for Seal himself. I'm not sure what the other thumbs up or down meanings were really for.
Same for me - thumps down meant unacceptable photo. Not funny, just disgusting.

Well? Stories!?!! Don't be shy.

And yet together they were friends at school...."-- Seal, 1991
Nov. 1, 1991: A physics graduate student kills five University of Iowa officials and wounds two others. The student then fatally shoots himself.

Interestingly enough, they just played the same three artists consecutively in the same order today (12-Sept-2018). Coincidence? :)
I wasn't familiar with Seal's music, but based on this song, I think I'm gonna have to give him a listen.
Amazing voice and style.
I look at the title in my Itunes library and skip by it because I've heard it so much.
But when I hear it on RP, I realize I still really like this song.
But the memories this tune brings back are priceless.
Hi Linda!
You said it!
That shouldn't disqualify it. The highest ranked songs on the RP playlist are mostly songs heard on "mainstream" radio ad nauseum. Even your selections of 10s include such over-played radio staples like "Fly Like An Eagle", "A Whiter Shade of Pale", and "Comfortably Numb".
Agreed as well. Listened to it a lot back in the day...
In other words, eclectic?

Thanks Bill
Agreed.

I went to Seal's homecoming gig on his first tour (1991 I think, the year is hazy). An absolutely stellar show. In the space of a year he'd gone from being a guest vocalist to fronting a four piece rock band (including the impressive Gus Isidore). There was a particularly cool, spacious cover of Hey Joe, which I still remember vividly.

All hail the Horn.
Seasoned correctly, and with small roasted potatoes and asparagus, with a light vinaigrette, is quite tasty.
Even the Bersker warriors are putting down their weapons and grooving to it all.
Great tune too.
He was a little crazy.

Is this the 12 inch?
That's what she said
Songfacts.com sez the following: "This song was inspired by the crazy events of 1989-90, in particular the fall of the Berlin Wall. The lyrics, "And through a fractal on a breaking wall, I see you my friend, and touch your face again" appears to be a reference to the Berlin Wall coming down." Others think it's about drugs...
Yeah, I always interpreted it as a hallucinogenic experience. And the recognition that only some people want to risk expanded consciousness... But higher consciousness is exactly what this species desperately needs if we're to survive. Timeless song. Alanis Morissette's version is also worth a listen.
Is this the 12 inch?
Hey don't knock Casey !
He was the one who turned me on to Pink Floyd for the first time in the summer of 1968.
He was still a working DJ at KRLA - AM in LA and played the entire Saucerful of Secrets album on his Sunday night show.

A rare popular song that critics admire and has aged well!
I Agree!
