Faith, the diamond in the chain
Still I was a slave, waiting to be saved
Dream, the body sleeps but I
Am not too proud to roam
On the back streets
It's oh, so simple when you know
You'll know this when it's time to go
Stray, and soon you'll leave behind
The loneliness you've sown, paradise leans
Scream, the body leaves the bone
To sit upon the throne
The battle waged for light
Dream, dream your sins away
Sin your dreams away
You're holding back, stop holding back
Unchain!
Say you'll love me tonight
Save your love for me tonight
And I feel you now
Lie awake and love drunk
I feel you now
Heavenly daemons outside my window
Sent here to see me outside this world
I call the shadow, you call the season
And that's solitary
Still I was a slave, waiting to be saved
Dream, the body sleeps but I
Am not too proud to roam
On the back streets
It's oh, so simple when you know
You'll know this when it's time to go
Stray, and soon you'll leave behind

Sometimes during this tune, the vocals remind me of David Bowie, a good thing. I really enjoy this one, another example of music one won't hear anywhere else. Thanks, Bill.
This get's playeda lot. Keep it up!!

GOOD TUNE!! The opening reminded me of "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes.
PERFECT TEN

Great tune, and I'm really glad to have the Whigs back for new music — I never thought it would happen. The Whigs and Catherine Wheel are the most criminally overlooked bands of the '90s.

Starts out like the Ronettes intro to "Be My Baby".

Love this song! Glad to hear some Greg Dulli magic on RP. Could you also play some of their older tunes? Especially ones from Gentlemen and Black Love.

I don't remember exactly what year that was (2014 - 2017). It was at the Haldern Pop Festival in Germany. The final two bands on Saturday's main stage were first The Afghan Whigs and then finally Wilco. The Afghan Whigs played a bombast rock during their performance that blew everything away. Wilco then had a difficult time as their performance was a bit quieter. Hundreds of people left the stage area during what I thought was a very good Wilco performance. I couldn't/won't understand that. But I stood near the stage at Wilco and enjoyed the concert. All in all it wasn't a good idea for the organizers to let Wilco play after the Afghan Whigs. But I saw two really good performances. The Afghan Whigs were also playing this song now.
that's awesome! i have been a HUGE whigs fan since late 80's, and i've seen them perform all over the US...so much fun to see them perform on stage. i love all the covers they do, all their oldies and i also enjoy this "newer" tune. long live Dulli!

Kind of funny the band Algiers released their debut a year later, I wonder...

Wonderful thxRP
Nice commentary Bill having this following "if you can tolerate this your children will be next" (will be next, will be next).
Classic of that era! Top class and well done!
molto bella
Early 90’s band makes good in the Teens!
They really have hit their stride in the last decade. Loving rediscovering these guys. Thanks Bill!

That was one heck of a smooth transition from Diafana Krina's Kousko. Nice :)
For some reason I always envision this singer as being Charlie Day

I always think it's the theme song for 1st season True Detectives and get disappointed too , that wasn't those Jesus guys was it?
Had to look , it was the Handsome Family

I love this song
I HATE that - every time the tune begins I think (and hope) it is Jesus & Mary Chain instead....
Great stuff - I thought it might be Calexico from the first few bars. I know very little of their stuff, time to find some more methinks.

Heard of Afghan Whigs but would have been hard pressed to name one of their songs. But, this is most excellent.

My first (that I know of) Afghan Whigs song (though I'd heard OF them prior).

The singer's voice put me off at first, but by the end, I find the song has grown on me.
Nice! Love it! Fat, juicy guitar, rich, resonant vocals; nice bass and drums too!
What a brilliant piece of music!
Now that's what I'm talking about. Sunday afternoon, everybody finally back from church and walmart, it's roughly 97 degrees celsius in the kitchen and rising, the chicken is frying and little brother just powered up the music. It's the only thing that calms him down. (In other words play some more like that please.)
Thanks Bill and RP for bring such schweeet music into my life.

Nah, man, I don't think so. A drum pattern (especially one which has been used in hundreds of songs) is generally not protected by copyright law, neither is honoring the sounds of a recording technique. It's a deliberate "nod" or an "homage" - besides Hal Blaine probably came up with that beat. It's interesting that they even added the castanet sound.
The first few seconds sampled— almost stole — the opening of Be My Baby. Should Phil Spector get a cut?
