I have a feeling that a few moments with google could find an example or two of conservative parents disowning their gay/transgender/liberal kids. So two sides of the coin.... one more point to the shiny quarter.

His reaction to Bidenâs decision was small-minded and divisive
The 2024 election is Donald Trumpâs to lose, and he may yet manage it. That was our reaction to his splenetic outburst on Sunday after President Bidenâs withdrawal from the presidential race.
It should have been an opportunity to show some class and judgment by welcoming the decision, warning U.S. adversaries not to take advantage of Mr. Bidenâs last few months in office, and saying Vice PresidentKamala Harriswill have to defend Mr. Bidenâs failed record. Short and presidential, with a unifying tone.
Not Donald Trump. On Truth Social on Sunday after the announcement, the former President posted this: âCrookedJoe Bidenwas not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasnât capable of being President, and he wasnât - And now, look what heâs done to our Country . . .â And on down from there.
We realize Mr. Trump is frustrated that he wonât be able to run against Mr. Biden. But he remains the favorite and has a strong case to make against the Biden-Harris record. The GOP convention was a political success, despite his self-indulgent Thursday speech.
The biggest doubt voters have about Mr. Trump is that heâs a divisive, vindictive man who is unable to speak for all Americans. He had a chance on Sunday to show he is capable of more, but he didnât rise to the occasion.
Shame on Joe for showing concern and kindness when contacting Trump after his brush with death.
This is the payback he gets days later.
Trump is reprehensible human and never fails to re-enforce that whenever given the chance.

Steely_D and I were speculating about your mindset, not steeler. My mistake.
I am not pitying you.
"I seriously resent and am offended by your decision that you should tell me what to do with and how to live my life."
You're always resentful and offended. Frat boys play drinking games based on your posts's use of "resent", "offensive", "how dare you" and variations on "go to hell." You're as brittle as a frozen piece of straw.
"There is very little if anything that I fear anymore, except maybe a long, painful and lingering death."
Understandable and commendable, given your life experiences. And yet (not to be the belaboring @$$h0|e) you raise the risk of that kind of death by smoking. I know you know that. Steely_D and I were wondering if that's contributing to your comparatively harsh and belligerent attitude. That's how we got to this point in our "discussion."
Let's stop here. I'm not going to pity your or give you advice or tell you what to do. I'd really appreciate it, however, if you could stop parroting Trump and right-wing punditsâor at least back up your arguments with evidence. I'm quite willing to consider other views and even change my mind but there have to be logic and facts in the politically oriented conversations we all have here.
Woah. I wasnât speculating about mindset or attitude.
I said cigarettes are hard to quit, and then said Iâm not the one to cast the first stone.
So WTF are you talking about ? When did steeler make this remark ? I went all the way back to 28 Feb looking at his posts and nothing.
I don't need yours or anyone else's pity. Nor have I ever asked for it.
I seriously resent and am offended by your decision that you should tell me what to do with and how to live my life.
And enough of all this projection of fear on me. You and just recently islander. There is very little if anything that I fear anymore, except maybe a long, painful and lingering death. I'll take myself out should that present itself. But I do not think about these things nor dwell on them. I will talk about death, but it is nothing more than talking about a cold as far as I am concerned. We all die. No one gets out alive. I have resolved all of these things years ago. Does talking about death straightforwardly make you uncomfortable ? That I talk about it does not mean that I fear it, or anything else for that matter. I am not, I repeat not afraid of dying. How about you ? I have already faced death, looked it in the eyes and did not blink. I had my NDE during my transplant. What I saw and discovered during that just made me feel comfortable that there is something next and I am not afraid. Just that I am in no hurry to get there.
So once again, take your pity somewhere else.
Just leave me the fuck alone with all your self important narcissistic self promotion. I don't recall telling you or anyone else to stop doing anything to save yourself.
.
You live your life your way and I'll live my life my way. And you vote who you want to vote for and I'll vote for who I want to.
Capiche ?

I don't mean to pick on you. I can't stand your politics but I don't, don't, don't want you or anyone in your family to deal with serious medical issues.
Steeler made a good point, though: you've dealt with cancer and transplant issues but AFAICT you're pushing your luck with smoking.
The medical drugs you've taken and are taking likely are suppressing your immune system thus making you more susceptible to cancer.
That paradox in your behavior quite possibly does create stress, anger, and fear in your outlook.
Maybe Steeler and I are quite wrong but that hunch is reasonable.

Don't recall mentioning lately that I still smoke, but I do, that is correct. Why are we speaking about me in this way here ?
Yeah I've kicked alcohol and cocaine, never did heroin. Those two I just reached a point and said no more. Couldn't even think about coke today, let alone much of anything else anymore with all the Fentanyl in everything. It is affecting coke so much that I just heard somewhere that Columbia for the first time ever has a huge surplus sitting around because demand has measurably fallen out of fear of not getting the real thing.
Tobacco. Since age 15 roughly. Shit. Quit three of four times, all cold turkey. 12 years once. Just tried the patch about two months ago at the same time I started my IVIg infusions. It was actually working until I broke out in crazy rashes. Yeah, I've also got Stage IV cancer. Toss in advancing COPD, too. Makes me a real dumb fuck, right ?
So Kcar, have you ever smoked ? Or are you a former user ? If neither then you have no idea in hell what you are talking about. If a former smoker, how did you quit ?
What highly addictive drugs have you used and how did you kick them, if you did ?
Nicotine is the most addictive substance I know of. It is both physical and mental and when you get down to it, it is indeed more mental than physical which makes it so tough to quit.. Problem is it is legal and the government make billions and billion in tax dollars off of the back of us junkies. And absolutely zero dollars of that tax money goes to benefit the smoker. It would 100% pay for the health care of smokers with a whole bunch left over. But no, fuck the junkies, they deserve all the misery that comes with it, right ?
If picking on me regarding personal habits is how you deal with my politics now, then you can politely simply go fuck yourself. Or better yet, go play frogger on I 95.
I smoked a few cigarettes. Bought a pack and smoked 2. Threw out the rest. I understand it's addictive but just the thought of enriching some @sshole tobacco company so I wouldn't feel sick made me pissed off. Still does.
I've smoked pot less than 10 times in my life. I miss the high and the way it alters my perception. It's easier to come down from a pot high than a room-spinning drunk but I haven't smoked pot in over 30 years. I was a binge-drinker in college during my first semester. That got boring really quickly.
I know people who've been addicted to drugs. It sucks for them and it sucks to be around them. The potential high from hard stuff was never worth the likely misery of addiction.

I don't hate you. I read your posts and often get quite frustrated because you follow along with every new crazy-assed GOP conspiracy notion and refuse to recognize how dangerous, stupid and criminal Trump is. If Hillary Clinton had kept all the documents that Trump did and tried to hide them, you'd be calling for her execution. If Obama had lost in 2016 and tried to keep Romney out of office by following Trump's tactics, you'd want him shot or worse. But Trump is apparently perfectly fine with you because he's against immigration and promotes economic nationalism.
No one is above the law, Kurt. Not even if they share your vision of America.

My favourite uncle had emphysema. It was not good. Hope you can manage to kick the habit, unlike my father who had no desire to do so.
I'm all in favour of tobacco tax going to health care but to be clear we are talking about a government health care plan. Like the one trump was going to release in two weeks. Um, how long ago was that?
Seems to me that it only makes sense to make it universal health care though. I mean, if I get lung cancer would it be from all the second hand smoke driving around in the car in winter with the windows rolled up? Or would people have to hire lawyers to prove they deserve to be treated?
You may be right but it doesn't explain why Kurt still smokes cigarettes.
To be fair, I’ve met plenty of people who could kick alcohol, cocaine, even heroin - but they can’t stop smoking. Gives me some respect for the level of difficulty.
