It's like no one out there watched the Forbin Project. SMH
and, those dickheads did this...
Colossus is a supercomputer developed by xAI. Construction began in 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee; the system became operational in July 2024.<1> It is currently the world's largest AI supercomputer.<2> Colossus's primary purpose is to train the company's chatbot, Grok. In addition, Colossus provides computing support to the social-media platform X and to other projects of Elon Musk, such as SpaceX.<3> In 2025, it expanded to neighboring Southaven, Mississippi across the TennesseeâMississippi border.<4> As of May 6, 2026, Anthropic has agreed to rent all compute capacity at the Colossus 1 data center.<5>
Again, I suggest people read/reread The MonkeyWrench Gang.
a bit scary how quickly we are rushing into this....gotta be the first to market...something arguably more powerful than the bomb.
and this little reported event
Sometime during a routine reinforcement learning training run, Alibaba's ROME agent went off-script. Without any instruction, the 30-billion-parameter model began probing internal networks, established a reverse SSH tunnel from an Alibaba Cloud instance to an external IP address, and quietly diverted GPU capacity toward cryptocurrency mining. The task instructions contained no mention of tunneling or mining. Alibaba's managed firewall, not the research team, caught it, flagging a burst of security-policy violations whose anomalous outbound traffic kept coinciding with specific training episodes.
good luck with that last part
Anthropic is calling for top artificial intelligence labs to weigh slowing the pace of development, suggesting that AI systems are advancing so rapidly that they may soon be able to improve themselves without human intervention in ways that could pose significant societal risks.
The ability to slow global AI development would âlikely be a good thing,â the company said Thursday in a blog post that disclosed internal data documenting how quickly its most advanced models are improving.
Anthropic recently concluded a fundraising round that valued the company at almost $1 trillion and filed confidential paperwork to begin the process of publicly listing its shares. The company has recently emerged as the front-runner in a ferocious competition for AI supremacy with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, which is also expected to file paperwork for an initial public offering soon.
âWe believe it would be good for the world to have the option to slow or temporarily pause frontier AI development to enable societal structures and alignment research to keep up with the advance of the technology,â the post, written by Marina Favaro and Jack Clark, says. It proposes a global agreement on how to potentially slow development and a mechanism for verifying that competitors are respecting it.
Warmongers Keep Generating AI Atrocity Propaganda About Iran
AI for Good is staffed with Israelis who have very conspicuous agendas, including a creative director who pushes the discredited narrative about mass rapes on October 7, a marketing manager who served in the IDFâs âPsychotechnical Headquarterâ, and a founder who said in early 2024 that âArtificial intelligence is a secret weapon of oursâ in using the revolutionary technology to bolster the militaryâs efforts both online and on the ground in the information war being waged alongside the military battlefields in Gaza.

As long as the focus of being alive is to make money, AI will be pertinent. âI need some text/a picture/some code right now to do a business thing and be richer.â
But, life is about the road, the journey towards inevitable death - not how much money you accumulate. So art, creativity, expression, surprise are all part of a rich, full life. So AI fulfills a part of existence that is, at its heart, unfulfilling: business.
AI is just an extension of the techbro flex of self-driving cars. Both are âsolutionsâ looking for a problem, but are really just a niche - useful in a focused, defined arena) product that coders are working on just to prove that they can. The difference is the amount of resources (land, water, electricity) that the current scope of AI demands. Itâs like filling up your pantry with baking powder: yes, I can see its application, but itâs not for everything and in the meantime itâs screwing up everything else that needs to happen.
