The proposal isn't simple
And the aim ain't true
That's okay
You'll catch on soon
Have I got a deal for you

You strike me as a realist
This'll be a breeze
We can stop anytime you please
It ain't pretty
But, hey, nothing's free

Waiting for the payoff
Coming due
I feel a little stupid
Doubting you
'Cause nobody gets ripped off when there's nothing to lose

The sophistication of our methods can't be discerned
I'll explain 'cause it's best you learn
That man, when it's hummin'
You can't hear the churn

It's a low risk proposition
Don't lose your shirt
I'll appraise your body's worth
C'mon, a small cut ain't bound to hurt

Waiting for the payoff
Coming due
I'm sick of the excuses
Out of you
Waiting for the payoff
What I'm due
Just a little token
Of your gratitude
Waiting for the payoff
It's coming soon
It's coming soon
Yeah, it's coming soon
Why bother getting pissed off when there's—

There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do
There's nothing you can do

His songs often sound to me like an intellectual exercise rather than a creative expression. Not very organic, more a hollow musical formula that works better on paper.

Glad to see lots of other people are enjoying him though.

What a great album! This is yet another great song on it.

Never heard of Father John Misty before, but thanks to RP I will be looking out for the touring dates in Europe!

Thanks William & gang!
