She was a London girl
Knew enough now to get herself alright
He was a Southend boy
Not enough smile, but he sure could fight
She was a daddy's girl
Pride of all Brixton with dragon sight

But she can't go home tonight

It's only natural (Ah, ah)
And lovers will show you how to break it down
In spite of attraction
Well, it's only natural (Ah, ah)
And people will show you how to take it down
In spite of your love, steady up

They were a perfect pair
A clash of two beauties and a rash of fame
Nobody knows just when
Lightning will strike, but it always came

And she can't go home tonight
No, she can't go home tonight

It's only natural (Ah, ah)
And lovers will show you how to break it down
In spite of attraction
Well, it's only natural (Ah, ah)
And people will show you how to take it down
In spite of your love, steady up

But she can't go home tonight

It's only natural (Ah, ah)
And lovers will show you how to break it down
In spite of attraction
Well, it's only natural (Ah, ah)
And people will show you how to take it down
In spite of your love

It's only natural (Ah, ah)
And lovers will show you how to break it down
The perfect subtraction
Well, it's only natural (Ah, ah)
And people will show you how to take it down
In spite of your love, steady up

I had to look up “Floccinaucinihilipilification”, awesome reply!
I just love the play between John & Flea!!👌
To me this is shoe-horning a monotonous slap bass part into a song about nothing. All props to these guys as musicians and good dudes (love Chad and Flea, particularly), but I can't get thru any of their songs without thinking I've heard it before.
Nice vocal harmonies in this song. Unusual with the RHCP.

Floccinaucinihilipilification.
Big YAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNN!
Mmmm

Moronic post.

The interplay between John Frusciante and Flea during John's guitar break is beautiful.
This song is a prominent, eloquent illustration of Flea's expert articulation on the bass. He ROCKS it! It snakes its groove and stalks its territory amongst the fairly typical vocal RHCP stylings here. Nothing too new, but... Overall, I think it's fun and reassuring that they are still giving us new tunes to jam to! Can't help but chuckle to think of Tone, the radical surfer punk that Kiedis played in the immortally cool action flick Point Break, sneering at Johnny Utah, Keanu Reeves' character, "Nah -- THAT would be a waste of TIME..."
Is there a word ending in "tion" that the RHCP haven't used in a song?
One of the most influential and best there are out there.
Kind of refreshing. New chili peppers.

At least the song isn't as vapid as your comment.
Horrible.

Anthony writes lyrics that rhyme.  They don't make sense. They really never tell a story. Well except maybe Under the Bridge....

enjoying the bassline in this one.
YAY! It's the Luke Warm Bell Peppers!!!

Were you going for clever? Missed.

No. Vaguely amusing whilst critical and, I think, accurate. Sorry you missed me.

Same old same old, over and over. You get less red hot with age, they are now The Lukewarm Rice Puddings.

They've learned a new chord on "steady up," guess we should be grateful.

It's only natural :)

Just joking, I'm with you on this. It feels like I can almost understand though.

This comment applies to most of their songs. I'm not sure Kiedis even knows.
Not one of their better efforts, but does show a different side of them, something RP is really good at.

My thought is that Southend is part of the country known for being quite white, and Brixton is part of London that's known for being ... pretty diverse.

Brixton IS south. Southend might be referring to their soccer team(football club).

Holy crap, I just looked at the RP ratings for all the played tracks on this album, which came out this year.  6.7, 6.7, 6.5, 6.1, 5.5.

That's usually the kind of thing you see with some mediocre hipster band's album.

Well this isn't hipster, but the other adjective...
For the sake of a bass atleast 8
Flea seriously bringing the heat here! Me likey!!

Yeah, that bass line is...yeah...that.

I really like how this one sounds, has a laid back funk sound that I really like, this gets an 8 from me because it sounds good on the big system.  Long Live RP and the RHCHP's!!

**2nd time hearing this on the big system, and I'm almost ready to go to 9

instruments still sound good to me, but they should replace their singer.
Glad to hear new music from our old friends the RHCP!

I like this track better than some of the others I've heard off this disc. But as someone mentioned, radio is playing the carp out of one or two tracks. Ugh.

Happened to me with Smashing Pumpkins' '1979'. Could not turn on the radio without hearing it! Now it's an automatic PSD - and it's not really their fault.

As far as I can tell, none of the lyrics on this album seem to make sense.
I don't complain much here, but I have to now. I'm really tired already of this new RHCP record. I find nothing enjoyable about it at all. And yeah - the skip button, I know. But when it's across the room from where you're working...
Boring.

Can't help but to get the feeling that this album is the result of a contractual obligation...they had to get it done and released, rather than wanting to do it.  Just seems to be lacking that spark that makes their stuff so passionate and interesting usually.

Yeah. Maybe if Neko Case was yodeling in the background the ratings would be higher.
This is played so often lately it reminds me of Payola.
I have this disease that makes me actively hate everything that RHCP creates. Sigh.
Please retire.

Was just gonna say "this sounds like Chilli Peppers, if they mellowed out some". lol
Love Flea's licks on this. John back is great too.  So over Anthony's singing tho.
I might be a bit dense, but I haven't got a clue what they are singing about.

Great song, still with the vibe we are used to.  It's great to still have them playing.

Especially with Frusciante back in the band!!
Meh
A unique sound, complete with Anthony on lead vocal. Not everyone's cup of tea, but great fun to hear at the start of the work day. PS And a shout-out to Flea, who wrote a really interesting autobiography.

Blech.

The Peppers are still truckin' after all these years!
Dibs!
