Won't you save a place for this?
Facing all there is to miss
A change of heart
A change of pain
It was going wrong
For the longest time
I'd rather die than feel this pain
What to do, with old dreams?
To feel a new kind of pain
As the sun pulls behind the sky
I'd rather die than feel this pain
Give up the world give up my life
Give up the pain give up the right
Give up the love give up the shade
Give up the blame for all the hurts we made
Give up the sun give up the night
Give up the fear give up the fight
Give up the guilt for all the ways we strayed
Give up the pain for all the hurts we made
Facing all there is to miss
A change of heart
A change of pain

Sweet.
I worked the early morning shift at a rec center during the Olympics when they would only play the international feed from the IOC. Instead of commericials they would just show city scenes of either Tokyo or Beijing with this song playing on a constant loop. Thanks RP for bringing back these sweat drenched nightmares!!!

I figured out why yer man is called Moby. His first names are Richard Melville, the name of the author who wrote the famous book Moby Dick.

You're assuming the drumbeat is off, and the artist/producer/label released the song anyway?
Perhaps what you're hearing is the "backbeat" drum stroke. That's common in a lot of blues and some rock music. For example, in 4/4 time (1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4) emphasis is usually place on beats 1 and 3; but it does have to be.
If you count "ands" (1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and-1-and-2-and-3-and 4) you can more easily hear the backbeat.
By the way, consistently hitting the backbeat is difficult, especially when a song's tempo is as fast as this one is.
Freakin' love all the music nerds here.

Isn't this what jazz musicians call syncopation? Anyway, the drumbeat sounds great to this philistine...

I find it amazing to hear the drum beat 1/2 beat off of the actual beat of the song. Very odd, off putting and if I didn't think it was electronically mixed, I would commend the drummer for being able to maintain that off-rhythm throughout the entire cut.

I think that if one very sad day Moby and Manu Chao expulse a tune together, it will be the end of the World. Those "artists" should be locked in jail for the rest of their days so our planet can sound a better way.

I enjoyed this tune. Went and checked my phone to see who it was, and I was certainly surprised it was Moby. Has an 80s feel to it, it’s a decent driving diddy.

This track hits me differently each time you spin it BillG. Today, home from the desk job, starting to do yard work and listening (with the neighbors hehehe) on the BT speaker, following the Massive Attack cut, and preceding BillG's playlist-ending "station identification" (still got some FM in ya!) whatchamacallit-thingamajig, I'll go +1 to the 6 rating I skipped before.
Not hearing it on headphones helped a bit. And for sure, being home, in the sun, and legally attitude-adjusted, that helped too.
And I'm still laughing about Richard Melville Hall choosing Moby as his stage name. Good one, Moby Dick!
Long Live RP!!
New and Moby?
8 for now, long live RP!
*EDIT* My 2nd listening of this track (on headphones this time) and I'm only at a 7 now. Sorry Richard Melville (Moby, ha!) Hall, but your new tune is getting downgraded to a 7 by me...you still get props for inventing your own choir; that's crazy and cool.
*2ND EDIT* I'm double-downgrading to a 5 now. Something jarring about this track and how it "fits" into the regular Awesome RP mix.

The first several seconds I thought it was an old Wall of Voodoo track...
This just came on after a magnificent Sonny Landreth tune and all the hair on the back of my neck went into spasm.....so I came over to the computer to express myself, and started reading the comments below and suddenly realized that I have puked about this tune half a dozen times already......... at least I'm consistent ~ this sucks.
Bill, thank you for introducing me to this album and song. I listen to RP for my own entertainment and to find new music to share with my ecstatic dance tribe. I played this one last week and it got the room moving wildly. Complete success!

I'm gonna buck the comment trend by saying I think this song isn't bad...not awesome, but quite ok...it has a slight Sisters of Mercy flavor, to me... I really don't love a lot of Moby's stuff, but I definitely appreciate his willingness to try different stuff, expand his range, etc. He's creative, even if not everyone's taste, including my own sometimes...

If Bill feels the need to play to any part of the audience, it's probably to the majority that's rated this 6.something, rather than just those who've commented negatively. Fortunately, it seems (to me anyway) that Bill feels no such need, and plays what he likes. Thankfully.
