God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess he kissed the girls and made them cry
Those hard-faced queens of misadventure
God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken lives
Fiery throngs of muted angels
Giving love but getting nothing back, oh
People help the people
And if you're homesick
give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
And nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away
God knows what is hiding in this world of little consequence
Behind the tears, inside the lies
A thousand slowly dying sunsets
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess the loneliness came knocking
No one needs to be alone, oh singin'
People help the people
And if you're homesick,
give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away
Nah naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu
Nah naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu
People help the people
And if you're homesick,
give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,

Lots of solo thinking in this song. I'm older and more cynical. I know that in the generic of group humans will not be -that- nice to one another, ever. We're more complicated and sadly less caring about one another. Our political season has produced demonstrations of the "might Makes Right" mentality.
One on one, we find the time and resources to be good to each other, for a brief time. We are hard wired to know that "nothing is free" and if the scales don't balance at some point the relationship must end.
Growing old and cynical, unfortunately, is what we earn from living from the heart first.

The original by Cherry Ghost is excellent...as is his first album that this comes from
From me only 5 - Decent so i use PSD now
Another RP discovery... from 5 years ago, no less
It's a strange day indeed when your stage name sounds more normal than your real name. Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde
Classy, I like it.

Me too! Adele's got more "volume", though. Never heard Adele anyway on RP, not a 24h listener...

First time hearing this. Thanks, RP.
Jackie Sannia did an absolutely brilliant version of this song on Austrailian "the voice" competition.
I love the lyrics of this piece
I love the lyrics of this piece
Interesting and impressive for a young woman, but I take a little issue with the idea that a thinking person cannot be generous of heart:
"Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away"
Not necessary Birdy! You can do/have both!

Though it was Florence at 90% power!
sadly appropriate for the day
POP
Birdy is new to me, she was 16 years old when this was released, June 16 @ Andrews Hall in Detroit,
Prefer the original
song too boring
This is way better than the original.
The lyrics may be debatable, but I like the voice and the music (especially drum line) is solid.
