moving softly through the valley where I live
when it rains the river runs so deep
when the water is clear and still like a mirror
I can see you on the surface of the river
when it rains the river runs so deep
in the rain I weep
where will I find you when I need you my long lost friend?
bring back the mirror so I can see your face again
when it rains the river runs so deep
in the rain I weep
in the rain
into the river deep
West of Norway and North of Scotland.....
Otherworldly.
Loving it. For that comment it goes to a 10.
ckcotton appears to hate female singers ( and women?). If you look at his listing of what he rated as"1." His "10s" only has two female singers in that group.....
0) Get the whole album and listen to it
1) Get it in Faroese and listen to it
Which reminds me: a friend of a friend of a friend has written a book set in the Faroes in WWII (Holly Bidgood, The Oystercatcher). I doubt that it's as entrancing and sexy as Eivor's singing, but there aren't many things to have come out of the Faroes (other than the football team which punches above its weight internationally) so I thought it would be worth a mention.
I've been trying to get this from the library. Must have something to do with the other 11 or 20 books I have piled up in front of it.
Loving it. For that comment it goes to a 10.
I concur.
Eivor's voice is distinct, lilting, clear and projects nicely.
I'm a fan.
Agree!!
I like.
Translation?
Eivor's voice is distinct, lilting, clear and projects nicely.
I'm a fan.
That's the majority of people saying this is either Quite Likeable or Most Excellent. I think that's a fair assessment.

Same here, enough of a fan to go 8+1 today (and despite that fact that we'll be having rain in the PNW until July now....) Long Live RP and umbrellas (aka hooded sweatshirts in the PNW)
I'm working on getting it lower... painfully repetatve

I don't understand as well. I only know that I love this song, and this singer performance is amazing indeed. This song has great atmosphere.

Are you just incapable of saying to yourself "Different strokes, etc" and hitting PSD (or mute, if necessary) for the many, many songs you seem to dislike so much? You seem to feel a need to override everyone else's opinion with yours.

No wonder I can't tolerate it....

hence her name I-vore.
More Bovine-bongs !!
Haha, there is a passing nod to it in the instrumentation!
10^3 thanks for sharing!
While we're discouraging cliches, I suggest also discouraging any mention of the metal percussion instrument named for bovines - think outside the box and avoid it like the plague!
More pig-cymbals!
In the Faroe Islands, climate is characterized by mild winters and cool summers and quite humid
And rainy weather with frequent formations of fog, especially in June, July and August.
I propose deleting the reference to anyone singing the phonebook from the standard cliche library. Right up there with the greatest thing since sliced bread. Let's generate some new trite cliches, shall we?

Well, her voice is definitely not nails on the chalkboard for me. :)

No. Just the plague that comes which was called for with a curse.
Yep, he does have this 'thing' for Scandinavian women, and I can only applaud his taste. Eivør, Anna Ternheim, Agnes Obel and more I'd never, every have heard, or even heard of, if not for RP.
Eivør's the best thing to come out of the Faroes since Claudio Ranieri (obscure reference for Foxes fans ;-))
And lastly: South of Greenland....
fwiw, that would be due east of Greenland on approximately the 63rd N. parallel. Worth a visit.
West of Norway and North of Scotland.....
And lastly: South of Greenland....
Same here ! I guess it means I have to switch give it a 10 now :)
Otherwise very nice tune

I took this photo of Eivør and others at the G! Festival in 2006.
Muppet boy. Music is not about facts. Taste is not about facts. It's about time you opened your mind to these truths.
What you or anyone else likes or doesn't like means jack shit to the rest of the human race. It's maybe time you woke up to the fact your personal tastes are an irrelevance to other people's personal tastes.
Next you'll be telling us what food has the best taste, what movie is the best movie and what colour is the best colour.
I wait, eager to follow your glorious lead.
lol, well stated, Jota. For the record, the opening song to the Muppet show has this song beat by a mile. :-)
Came here to hate on this song some but will now hold my criticism. After this stellar comment, I don't think anything else needs to be said.

Further more, smooth jazz isn't a curse.
Bah, you're just getting old and grumpy. Fresh material like Eivør is what makes RP great.
Used to hear the weather from the Faroe Lighthouse as a kid and have no idea where that was.
Still don't, but Eiver's voice will compel me to go and Google her whereabouts.Progress of a sort.
Now discovered Tróndur í Gøtu, I foresee a trip to Ireland to sample Guinness and research Trondur.
Thanks Bill, this is getting better and better.
Like her music.
Bought her Live CD... Love her YouTube Videos...
She makes it easy to get in touch with my inner Viking.... Something primordial and directly appealing about he older types of music...
She's from Faroe Islands... Learned her music from her Grandfather...
Interesting... When she's playing acoustic and standing barefoot... Yep, very tribal atmosphere... Some of the videos are quite compelling and sad...
Thanks for the introduction... Listening to RP is an expensive pleasure... I keep buying CDs...
