In 1989, Robin Wilson passed by a sign on his way to El Paso that read "Next Exit Allison Road."... The exit sign for Allison Road is located on Interstate 10 in Roosevelt, Texas.
 
I had a look in Street View and there is no sign for Allison Road on Interstate 10.  There's just a little one on a side road.  The exit from I-10 is just marked as "Roosevelt".  The road does exist: https://www.openstreetbrowser.org/#map=16/30.4883/-100.0518  You can sort of see Allison Road on Google Street View but the photo quality is abysmal.
 
That said, this is not anywhere near El Paso, it's much closer to San Antonio, pretty much along I-10 between Junction and Sonora.

First heard this on my then favorite radio station 94 wave I think it was called in Charleston. They played all my favorite music. Whenever I hear it I have to run and turn the volume up.

Love the song, love the album, saw them for the first time about 8-9 years ago and the live show was a big disappointment. Seemed like aged frat boys going through the motions.

I used to mountain bike at a place called Coffee Road in Atlanta around the time this song came out. I caught it on the radio several times while drive over there. So these two things are linked in my brain.

I can hear that but I think there's also a lot of Big Star influence, which may be why they recorded this at Ardent Studios.  Then again, Chilton was influenced by McGuinn's electric 12-string sound.

This and the Jayhawks Hollywood Town Hall were THE albums of 1992 for me. I’ve always been disappointed that they were both bands who only had one brilliant album in them.

Wow, so many memories from High School...  Lots of fuzzy memories surrounded in a fog of smoke from High School as well.

Almost makes me miss those days, but being clear headed and making more than the $5.15 an hour flipping burgers part time makes up for the lack of new fuzzy memories.

1993, just come to the USA, good friends, chemically enhanced. Saw these guys backing up Cracker and the Spin Doctors in Atlanta. A seminal moment- the peak of all 3 bands.  Good memories.
