He pulls the spitting high tension wires down
Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them
He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town
Oh no, they say he's got to go go go Godzilla
Oh no, there goes Tokyo go go Godzilla
History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men

Years ago, I lived in a first-floor condominium. The upstairs unit had hardwood floors, and the occupant was a young lady who often walked around in high heels, making LOTS of noise above. My wife and I nicknamed her "Godzilla," and we would blast this song on the stereo whenever we heard our upstairs neighbor tromping around. This song will ALWAYS bring up memories of that neighbor!
Too Funny!
Oh No..GODZIRRA!
Gojira to be exact.
May I say this is the first time I hear a Cult's song that isn't, you know, the one with the reaper banging a cowbell to scare the seasons off?
Thanks RP <3
I thought you were going to say "Fried a good pair of woofers AGAIN!!!!"

Oh well, I still like the track! 6 for the song + 1 for the great BillG segue from "Big in Japan" and +1 for my silly anecdote = solid 80s 8!
Got a kick out of the playlist... Same "Big in Japan" preceded this track today. HaHa!

(read somewhere BOC almost used Patti Smith as lead vocalist : P
Has to be one of the great tunes from 1977.
Blue Oyster Cult, great band name and had some tunes that they (hopefully) have made them lots of money in royalties.
Sadly, I don't think BOC raked in a ton of cash...
I laughed when I heard the opening notes

Me too.......... Billy Thorpe Children of the Sun anyone?

There is a good reason to have cold sweats at night.
Great segue from Alphaville's "Big in Japan"!
Nice one Bill!
(edit) I see I'm late to the party on this one here. :-/

they brought fireworks instead.
That was much safer of course.
Still remember the searing heat coming off them 'candles'.
Wonder what it was like for them on stage . . .
It's just a tad precious for my taste. Doesn't help that both tumes are only meh-decent in my book. Toneach their own.
I dare you to follow it with "I'm Turning Japanese"!

Still rocking after all these years. If listeners would delve into some of their non radio air play songs, they would surprised to find an assortment of quality tunes, I Love the Night, Nosferatu, and Astonomy to mention a few. Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma my be in their 60's but they are relentless performers and still got the chops to get a crowd fired up. Kasim Sultan from Todd Rungren's Utopia is currently touring with them.
Would not hurt to hear some Todd here on RP.
Godzilla on the 4 pm movie.
Just getting dark as we left, he was knackered; perched on my shoulders and slipping in and out of consciousness. As we navigated towards our spot in the North Forty of the huge parking lot, we encountered the edge of a crowd in the falling dusk. Like all herds, they were oriented towards a focal point - which turned out to be a stage. We were maybe 200 feet away when the lights came up. The 70's metal chord storm was unmistakable: Blue Oyster Cult, GODZILLA.
Yeah, it was the mid Eighties. SynthPop, Punk and various manifestations of Electronica ruled the day - but for the next four minutes we rocked out to real guitars, old-school percussion and a wonderful little bass break. BOC had long passed from Stadium Gods to a novelty act shilling bargain-basement Disney imitators. Didn't matter. They rocked. We rocked.
Travis was fully asleep by the time the band broke into 'Don't Fear the Reaper'. Just so much Foghorn Leghorn and screaming lead runs a little guy can process in one long day. BOC serenaded us all the way to the car.
Unexpected pleasures imprint in a way the carefully constructed experience can only echo.
Mid-80s? Damn I saw them at Madison Square Garden in 81, when "Burning for You" was a big hit. Their last major commercial success. Quick downfall.
Alphaville — Big In Japan
Blue Oyster Cult — Godzilla

Check out the extended trailer for the new movie - looks like fun.

That is a beautiful, sweet and goofy story. I'm sure BOC would be proud to know they were part of your Day of Big Fun.

Ten trillion cowbells probably couldn't improve this - but it's dreadfully entertaining in its shark-jumping glory.
Brilliant sequencing.

I would but they have been retired and are boxed up in the garage. Now it's crank up the Martin Logans !
