It was Danny Kirwan, not Doug Kerwin.
I know this isn't Fleetwood Mac but never has there been a band that went from sooo good to sooo bad ( when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham brought their nightmarish personal lives on board). Gone were the sublime days of Peter Green's guitar work and Doug Kerwin and Bob Welch's dreamy stuff and The McVie's efforts. Too bad such a good band was rebranded with the drivel that came from the bucknicks era…. My thoughts exactly …

Mick hired L. Buckingham to make them money. He succeeded.

It's a totally different band and musical genre. Trying to compare the two is pointless.
Interesting follow-up observation from one of the more recent YT commenters. This version apparently from "In the Skies" - 1979 - worth a listen.
Pauline White's comments are gone. But there seems to be two different guitars here. What is Snowy's lead seems to be the middle part. Until 1:54 there seems to be unmistakably Peter playing. Then it's like there is a switch of guitar tone, until approximately from 3:14, or a little later, where a Peter-like sound kicks in, also added with some deep throut like 'ehmm' sounds in the background, quite the way Peter used to "humm" along his playing in the early years. Is this a track that was taped but not chosen for the album? What is your thoughts about the divided guitar sounds? This doesn't seem like one single guitar floating through in one endless solo from start to finish.
Bump up to a 20 please.
I second that please do william
There is an elevator that plays music this good? If I ever find myself riding an elevator that is playing Peter Green, then I might not get off at my floor.
Just tried to give you a thumb up for this answer - then i realized i did it already before
You don't like it change the fucking station or press FF.
Would rate It higher if it weren’t for the monotonous background.
Agreed. Peter Green is capable of so much more. Maybe this was just a case of "We're out of time guys but we need one more track - throw something together, OK?"

Personal lives aside, I got no problem with Lindsey”s guitar work. All FM is good by me.

Don't tell that to Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, or Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Poorly
What´s "Slabo " in English?
Great Tune!!! ....and good question! ...Slabo?
not one mention of who Slabo was?
something week.. or thin.. Slobo Day is poor, week day. /Blue monday/
Bob Welch song.
Damn, Tom, I love you man, but it sure sounds like you ripped this off.
I think he was listening to the original and got bored and decided to add some lyrics to the song. They both work for what they are.

Indeed. Just ask the greatest - Jeff Beck.
I always enjoyed all the truly great guitar players without having to rank them against one another.
You’re missing half the fun! 😛
LOL. I guess you stay awake by thinking about elaborate and cruel ways to kill the lead guitarist.

Before the song is over ...First fact .. Peter left us ..peaceful in his sleep.. I feel instandly sad.
Rest in Peace Peter ..We play on .. Thanks for your music.

In my office, every day is Slabo Day.
Damn, Tom, I love you man, but it sure sounds like you ripped this off.
Lead guitar is Snowy White.
Touch, tone, technic - this is a wonderful song.
Snowy White indeed claims to be the lead guitarist on this track. Convincing enough, in my opinion. Here's the link

Hi Rob, nice music you have on your channel ! Normally I don't send comments on the internet, in fact I've never done it before, not at all...but for once I would just like to put the record straight regarding who played lead guitar on the two versions of 'Slabo Day', as there seems to be some confusion about it, judging by all the things I've been reading over the years. Snowy White played lead on both versions. How do I know? Because I'm Snowy White. The original version is the one you have posted on your website as having 'Greeny in the lead'. (I wish he had, I'd have loved to listen to him rather than doing it myself). Peter invited me and my band to do the sessions for his album. The only reason this track is available is because I had taken a cassette of that first recording session, and later I put this version on my compilation album 'Goldtop'. If you listen carefully you can hear Peter saying to me, "Play some lead on this", just before he says to the recording engineer, "Take it this time". A few weeks later we went in and recorded it again, with me playing lead once more, which is the version that appears on the 'In The Skies' album. It would have been great if Peter had played lead instead of me, after all it was his album, but he was always very generous in so many ways and certainly he liked to share the guitar parts. Anyway, I've said enough, it's my first (and certainly last) post on Youtube, or anywhere else. Well, for what it's worth, you now have the true picture about 'Slabo Day'. Keep posting the great music of Greeny, he was the best.

Can that be true? This is credited as a Peter Green tune on a Peter Green album and his contribution is the rhythm guitar loop?
Don't get me wrong, I like the tune but finding out that it's not actually Green playing makes it seem a bit fraudulent.
They grew to an amazing, but quite different band without him.
Oh Well....

depending on what you ate, drank or believed was the way to your room
My bet is that it's his label. IIRC, when the Sam Smith came up, Petty freely gave permission.
yeah, I just did a quick dig, and that wasn't even the first time Petty said he didn't care if another song sounded like one of his, here's an interview from back in '06: https://www.stereogum.com/2803/tom_petty_responds_to_red_hot_chili_controversy/news/

I didn't know he replaced Mr Clapton in John Mayall's band. (Learned my "something new" for today!)
I was waiting thru almost the whole song for Tom to start singing, before I clicked over on my RP tab.
Tom (or his label?) sure has a lot of nerve suing other artists for plagiarism.

I would agree that Peter Green is the greatest blues guitarist, but my vote for the greatest ever guitarist would go to Jorma Kaukonen.
Correction: TIL thats Snowy White and not Peter on the Solo. But what I said about Peter still stands.
I love this record - the perfect Sunday morning album.
You are confused.
It sounds like Mark Knopfler wandered into a strip club
I really like the piece, but that's funny......still laughing as I write this.
I see that the song is available on RP. Maybe they can be teamed up in a future playlist. Bill?

Thank you for not playing Trip to Pirate’s Cove!

The RP artwork is also 'correct', just not 'original'. It's for a special green vinyl edition released by Creole Records, which I have in my 'FM et al' collection. In my view it is actually more appropriate. What I mean by this is that the original album artwork is rather ironic - Peter could easily have been saying to his one-time 'believers' through this album (the first released after his long illness): "Listen people, I'm not the god around here, I'm just a man of the world doing the best I can. Don't look to me, look to the skies!"
The name 'Fleetwood Mac' was first used for an instrumental track that Peter recorded with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie while they were still with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, in some free studio time that John Mayall gave him for his 20th birthday. It stuck as a band name when Peter left the BBs to form the band the next year, although it was initially billed as "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer"!
cool

I have the green vinyl version also - Just thought it strange they would use that version of the cover for the CD release. Been a fan of them for a long time but not so much for their later stuff. First saw them live in '71.
My green copy -

Who knows what he could have accomplished had he not gone off the rails.

yes, right. Today is a day like you mentioned
He's not the only one!
Knopfler is much more rockabilly inspired IMO.
So much better that the pastiche Tom Petty rip off version.
Lead guitar is Snowy White.
Touch, tone, technic - this is a wonderful song.
My thoughts exactly. Which is why I find this as dull as most of Knopfler's work (duller, actually).
While I did know about Peter Green's connection to FM, I too checked out the info on this tune for its Knopfler-like sound, so there are at least a few of us who learned something today... A 9 for me.
Who knew? Quite a few ... it's very sad but don't forget about his bandmate Danny Kirwan who was a sublime guitarist too and is hopefully still alive somewhere in London.
Love this LP, the perfect sunday morning album.
