You believe in anything
They tell you how to think
Simpletons a circling
The raging roller rink
Trading in the alley
Bucking up a storm
Forget about reality
Cause nothing is the norm
Yeah yeah
So what can you do
You say
They owe me a few yeah
Blue tip me a cue yeah
You got that look on your face
You'd like to be in the race
You cannot hide your disgrace
You leave without a trace
Sanctuary your heartland
Black and white tv
Stroking all the gun heads
To the ninth degree
You here the screamers coming
They clamor in disguise
They think that you'll be running
To the other side
Yeah yeah
So what can you do
You say
They owe me a few yeah
Blue tip me a cue yeah
You got that look on your face
You'd like to be in the race
You cannot hide your disgrace
Can't fill an empty space
(Ahh)
You stupify the thinkers
(Ahh)
You're hugging all the flakes
(Ahh)
And all the things you think are true
(Ahh)
Only mystify the fakes
Keep your hat on backwards
And keep your lips tucked in
The world is full of quackers
And belly button rings
I know you'd like to be immune
To the things they say
You're hung up on your heroes
And upon the beast you pray
Yeah hey
What can you do
You say
Well they owe me a few yeah
Blue (blue) tip me a cue yeah
You got that look on your face
You'd like to be in the race
You cannot hide your disgrace
You leave without a trace
You got that look on your face
You'd like to be in the race
You cannot hide your disgrace
You leave a bitter taste
They tell you how to think

Vastly underrated with a killer exit...just focus on the siren that starts just before the outro. Classic Cars. Man, I miss this band.
Lyric corrections:
You hEAr the screamers coming
And upon the beast you prEy

Seems rather relevant today.

Indeed! TH and this band both broke big at the same time, and blew us all away with their wild and unique new style... And on this excellent effort, Ric still really WOWs me with that same quintessentially quirky Ocasek delivery he used back then on "Night Spots" from Candy-O... "A real Romantic with the SULTRY STARE/ You keep on messing with your BLONDE, LONG HAIR, yeah!" R.I.P., Ric, you were a true Pioneer. You and your amazing band-mates did much to change the landscape of the entire U.S. music scene -- and, my life!
WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!
In my eyes: underrated!
Some passages remind me of David Byrne / Talking Heads

When this came out, it had been 24 years since the original 'CARS' cut a record.
I was convinced this was LCD Soundsystem when I first heard it.
Why have I never heard this? Please play more from this album!

Trying to visualise a duck with a belly button ring, especially since they don't have inies or outies either for that matter.

This sounds better now for some reason than it did when it came out. Hmm.

I was just listening to this album for the first time. I hadn't heard anything from it before, and it's really good.

if this was on the first record or second record it would probably have been pretty good. problem is time moves but apparently the cars haven't figured that out.
Yeah, not feelin' this one. And I really liked these guys back in the day... :

I'm sure they figured if LCD Soundsystem was making money off of stuff that sounds like old Cars songs, then it was time for a new album.
This song brings back SO many memories. Back around 1980 when The Cars were huge, I used to gas up Ric's cars, he had a Mercedes 300TD wagon and a black Jaguar XJ6. The Jag would take a pint of power steering fluid every time you gassed it up, they just couldn't make that car stop leaking PS fluid.
Ah, good times!
True story.

With headphones...crank it! YEAH!

Nice. this sounds more like the Cars that I know and love.

nice summation.
God, it's so fun hearing that distinctive Cars buzz, hum, and thrum again...and the Ocasek vocals are as quirky as ever; the words even more biting and downright political than ever...and perhaps no one knows their way around the fret-board like Easton — JAM!

Nice to hear The Cars again!
The Cars are the Cars. I don't think they are capable of doing anything too different, that is fine. They are just not the type of band that can reinvent the wheel, I am sure people will still buy this based on nostalgia. Some people may enjoy it, most will probably say meh. Our money is still good, they will be able to cash some checks, good for them.
Sure this sounds like their old stuff.... but ain't nuthin' wrong with that!

Heehee! You hear about the moyel who worked for free? Yeah, he only took tips.
"Just the tip baby," Is what a guy I knew from Brooklyn used to say to girls he was hooking up with. No word on how many babies have been born in Bay Ridge with green eyes and a weak chin.

Oh, YIPPEE!!!! I don't think they sound the same as they did years ago - lots of edgier guitar and meatier bass lines. I ordered this CD a couple of days ago, and I can't wait to hear the whole thing!
Did I mention YIPPEE?

Fun, Fun, Fun!
I knew this was the Cars within the first three seconds I first heard this number.
This car is running on retreads

Glad to see some other songs from this cool new release are making it into play on RP. I admire Ric immensely for his wily wit and mighty chops in biting into politics with such slick and sly verve on it, too! GO CARS!
oh when you bite your lip
It's some reaction to love, o-ove, o-ove...
Nice and happy. They still work for me.

Yeah this one's better than the other stuff I've heard so far...
Now, that just has to be an old Casio at the start. I wonder if Rolf Harris is moonlighting for these guys? ;)
Like the old Cars!!!
Way to go Bill, one of the better songs on this CD!
My friend I went ot the show with fell asleep after 3 songs. :-(
