Technically I'm certified
A walking declaration
Of everything I couldn't get right
Time is just an anchor
But 7 years I think I'm right
Now you've changed your number
It's like a noose around my life
Every pill I took in vain
Every meal for you I made
Every penny I put away
Asking for flowers
Is like asking you to be nice
Don't tell me you're too tired
10 years I've been working nights
My life is like a picture left
out too long in the sun
Now I'm trying to remember all
the faces of the names I've loved
And all that's left of me now is
a cigarette burning bright
And a fading memory of all the things
I tried to get right
Every pill I took in vain
Every meal for you I made
Every penny I put away
Asking for flowers
Is like asking you to be nice
Don't tell me you're too tired
10 years I've been working nights
Every pill I took in vain
Every meal for you I made
Every bill I went and paid
Every card I signed my name
Every time I poured my heart out
Every threat you made to move out
Every cruel word you let just slip out
Every cruel word you let just slip out
Stop the presses... somebody thinks they're witty.
At first she reminded me of Lucinda Williams — but to me she is lacking Lucinda's grittiness. I like the grit - keeps it interesting. This is decent, but a little bland for me.
See her in concert. You'll likely change your tune.
I totally agree. I saw her this summer at the xpn festival in Camden, NJ. She was amazing. I stop everything I am doing every time this song comes on.

spot on!
I bumped this song from 8 to 9. It is just so good... Thank you, Canada, as always. I love you.
i miss you.
Well, this tree-hugging, native-loving cowboy LOVES country, especially this what I call 'electric country', or what is really prog rock-influenced country folk.
P.S. This gal is from my home town of Ottawa. For the Americans: Ottawa is the federal capital of Canada. It is located in the province of Ontario near the Quebec border. Quebec is still a province of Canada.
When did Canada stop being part of the US?
And yes, I am kidding.
She has a new album out, what I've heard so far is amazing.
I bought her first 3 CDs by clicking through radio paradise to amazon.ca
Asking for Flowers is by far the best.

You wish will be granted in jan/feb 2012... I'm happy about that!
For this alone it get's a 9 from me.

Well, that's nice of you to say. Per capita, Canada always has produced a disproportionate number of great musicians, actors, comedians, etc. I'm not sure what the reason is but I think it has something to do with it being tougher to get "discovered" up here so people have to work even harder at their craft to "make it big". (Our apologies for Rush and Howie Mandel.)

people who I haven't seen in a while are often surprised to hear how 'serious' about photography i've gotten in recent years. certainly if someone had told me I'm spending a significant percentage of my time 'taking pictures' 5 years ago, I would have been highly skeptical. But, if asked to trace where my passion for photography was ignited, it would probably have been at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, where Kathleen Edwards was playing the (first?) MapleMusic Showcase. Long story short, I was shoved to the front with my dinky digicam, and for the first time managed to get some really good concert shot It was all downhill from there
Flashforward to now, its the first time I've managed to catch Kathleen since then, and its interesting to see just how my style has ... evolved since then Better camera helps too I like the drama of the shot - ironic since she's mainly known as a folk, alt-country performer
Great pic! Thanks. I just rated this song for the first time. (9) I can't say why I never rated it before. This song reminds me so much of so many women I have known who have expressed their angst over how they have fared in relationships. I suppose I should feel I suppose I should feel good that either they have opened up to me or that I HEARD them (or both), but it just makes me feel so sad that so many women are so resigned. I CAN say why I didn't give it a 10 - it doesn't even give a hint that there's any way OUT of this way of living.
She also sounds a lot like fellow Canuck Sarah Harmer.
I've noticed a disproportionate number of talented artists coming out of Canada - what's the story?

Kathleen Edwards (born July 11, 1978 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Her blend of country, folk and pop music made her a favourite of music critics, and a rising star on radio in 2003 with her debut album, Failer, made popular by her hit singles "Six O'Clock News" and "Hockey Skates". Her style of music is sometimes placed in the alt country music genre.

Agreed!
That's just sweet.
Great road trip music.
Indeed, last year me and my girlfriend hired a mini-campervan and travelled all the way through New Zealand, this CD came by very often... Excellent mood-setting music....
I didn't have that exact reaction, but mine was pretty similar... bought the whole damn CD and WORE IT OUT. I should look in iTunes and see how many plays this CD got on my iPod.. whew! Great road trip music.
Wow, Cynaera really summed it up for me too . . . I love this artist. And this song just pulls at your soul . . . beautiful melody and great lyrics. Bonus: she is a native Canadian like me. I'm a big fan. Love the Hammond B3 in the background too, can't get enough of that sound . . . . Thanks RP for playing such excellent tunes.

She's the female version of Freedy Johnston.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not—but if you mean it, I agree with you completely.
I kind of like the droning voice... it is unique in an interesting way. Not super unique, but just enough to make me focus on it.
BUY IT!
It's absolutely a fantastic album, she really knows how to bring it and to make you believe it! I love this!
10
She is married to Canadian indie guitar veteran, song writer, Colin Cripps who has played with just about everyone on the Canadian music scene. If you watch the video linked above, he is the hockey referee and plays guitar in the team dressing room.
Completely disagree. This is sweet. (I'm with you on Natalie M, however.)
This is my upload... I uploaded two other songs from this CD and they were not accepted... this is a fantastic CD, IMHO, this might be one of the best of the decade IMHO, it's too bad Rebecca/Bill are missing out on it.
So excited, going to see her for Holiday Jam at the Pheonix Club in Toronto on the 14th. She'll be playing among many other talented musicians, including Sarah Harmer and Sam Roberts. The whole event is to benefit Sick Children's Hospital.
Great show!!! Kathleen always stands out at these things.
ha, ha , ha nice comment!! But be fair, the music is not that horrible!

What a song!
Thanks from me too. Great artist from my hometown.
I second that. Like the whole CD

I thought that was you. In case you can't guess "knobhead" is implied.
