I fell asleep in the silence
Before the street fights the fire

Free in the world that you've given
Lay in the sound
The water still calls
Still calls

Afraid of the dark that surrounds me
Hide in the dirt of the ground
Free in the wind that surrounds me
I'm not afraid to sleep in the night
Not afraid
To sleep in the night

Free like a bird of the holders
Holding the wake of the sun
I know the road that you send me
I know the way it leads to home

Real like the bones in my body
Real like the flesh that covers the grave
It's real
Like the flesh
That covers
The grave

Wait for the gaurds that you send me
Before I'll show myself
Wait for the storm
That comes to me
Maybe I'll just change my mind

Plea for the will of forgiveness
I'm not afraid to say I was wrong
I was wrong
Maybe I won't
So long
So long

This is not my favorite from Mazzy Star.
This is how I always imagined the Beat Generation doing country.
I'ma joining the 6 crowd I think... Whats up with the flat singing at the bottom of a stairwell?

I thought it was Gram Rabbit til I looked.

I wonder if she was sitting around the studio and decided to try singing flat for an entire song to see if anyone notices. This one is almost painful to listen to, or at least is is to me. Others may love it, but not my cuppa Oolong for sure.

I sure noticed.

Very, very bad.
Normally love Mazzy - but I think someone let the air out of her here
This (and a lot of their work) should go on an album titled "Songs for Suicide"

Heroin is bad.
pluh. where's the zero?

I agree, and I am generally a fan of Mazzy Star.

Mazzy Star is a band.  The lead singer pictured here is Hope Sandoval, with David Roback.

This was such a good debut album.  I was a big fan of this band during the 90's and still like listening to all of their albums.  Several RP listeners aren't quite getting it, I see.  Strange, I got it on first listen back in the day.

Couldn't resist replying to this one because it is a long-standing pet peeve of mine.  Mazzy Star isn't a girl.  Those aren't "studio musicians" backing her.  Mazzy Star were a band.  I know, I should get over it already ;)

She sounds like she's singing from the bottom of the garbage can. This is horrible.
She sounds a bit like a bored Neko Case on an off day.
I gots to get me some Mazzy Star.  I always like what Bill plays from them.

I don't get it.
Annoying dirge-like crap. It's July 4th. On this one day, can we possibly hear a bit more upbeat and positive music? Mind you I'm not asking for Christian rock or anything, but a bit less of the wrist-slitting tunes would be nice.
I like distant sounding vocals and reverb to boot. This is a cool sonic space - almost like looking at a hallway scene through an old black and white television. When the organ comes in and it's all warm and close sounding, it's as if the scene has changed to blue-ray, or you're actually there. I am different and have rated it as 7/10 for now. Take that all you 6ers.

It's likable but we remain reserved. I'm sure someone will want to shake it up.

Can barely hear the vocals. They sound distant.
