In spite of everything around me
I hit the floor, and my feet kept moving
I looked forwards and never backwards
I was out the door like a rollin soldier
Impossible to keep a straight line
Too young to keep these bitter hearts
And all around me somebody's singin'
Get back get back
Long hair comin down her shoulders
She is tired, and feeling so much older
So tear the pages from the family bible
It came down upon the women for survival (x2)
I wasn't meanin' nothing at all
You stop me if I get it wrong
I think I'm hearing somebody saying
I'm gonna spank you till you can't sit down
Bust apart ah we lose each other
The constellation of my sisters and brothers
Spreading out into the darkness
Goodbye to you in the sadness of this
Impossible to keep a straight line
Too young to keep these bitter hearts
And all around me somebody singin
Get back get back

Love the Tanyas.
These women are as real as it gets.  I am smitten.  Would be an honor to get to know them and sit in on a session or two.
How can anyone not love the Tanyas.  Totally unassuming fresh breeze.  They are so good, just chokes me up.  The world is a much better place with them and their spiritual brethren among us.

Thanksgiving indeed!

I find her voice really irritating.
I've made the similar observation, as many others doubtless have, but lead singer has the vibrato-est vibrato I ever did hear.

Like this band and their tunes.
Ootischenia is a town just a half our drive from where I live, where Frazey Ford is from. Frazey's voice is perfect for some songs.

It was on hiatus for a bit. Well, maybe more than a bit :-)
I still remember when I heard this song back in 2006 on XM Radio (before it was Sirius).  At the time I'd never heard such a high-energy fusion of bluegrass and rock... it was awesome, even though I couldn't follow the lyrics.
I believe Frazey Ford is still performing periodically.....hope so!!….there's nobody like here!!...the minute you hear that voice...you know it's her

Loving Frazey Fords vocals.
Love me some Tanya!

Everybody in my church loves this marvelous song...

No, today that gargling vocal is creepy. Ugh.

This is a pretty good song, even if the singing sounds a bit odd.

A 10 for the above comment and a solid 3 for the tune.
Liking the vibrato, even the banjo, seen them twice and they haven't played this track. Have to see 'em again!

Still a ridiculously cruel comment.

Hahahaha!
I don't know what it is, but she should take that thing out of her mouth before the singing commences.

I bought this CD after hearing it here. It's quite good overall. Maybe you and your subjective opinion can find a nice Adult Contemporary station that would make you happy. I hear they play plenty of Yanni!
The beginning chord progression matched the end of the Beatles' "Happiness is a Warm Gun" really well. I thought it was going to be cover.

please replace the lead vocalist with someone else!
Channeling Tracy Chapman.... not a good thing!

Me too.  I've really gotten into their stuff.  Given their sound I first thought they were from the south, but they're actually from Vancouver IIRC.  {#Dancingbanana}
When this comes on (or anything by BGT) I rush to make sure I gave it a 1. Yup.

Love 'em, Jennys next please. Oh, OK, Cat Power works too. Yeah Bill.

8 - Not their best song, but I love this band. Very folkish and wholesome.

Understatement of the year.

The Be Good Tanyas are a favorite around here.  Numerous friends have heard me play their CDs and asked who they were.  The album Chinatown is a favorite, and Blue Horse is pretty great as well.

Don't really like, her voice is too shakey and annoying
Bah.  Nothing physicsgenius didn't say several years ago, with considerably more flair and talent.  Kids can't even be decent curmudgeons these days...

I used to try to think of funny ways to describe her voice (mouth fulla peanut butter, sitting on a washing machine, etc., nothing very original), but I think I'm actually starting to like it very much. It took at least 3 dozen listenings, but I can finally feel her stylistic integrity. It's as real as anyone else's.

It's just style. It's perfectly OK if you don't like it. You have Smashing Pumpkins on your list of "10s"... there's an affected voice! Same kinda deal, just a different style. Just move on, turn the station, whatever. She's not going to change her style because of your opinion, believe it or not. :)
Tracy Chapman anybody?
A DJ actually played The Be Good Tanyas on "regular radio" here in Orlando this past Sunday - I had to check to make sure I hadn't changed to RP!

The initial 45 seconds reminded me of Fleetwood Mac's "Over My Head".

You assume too much, bokey. I'm only sharing my opinion, as you are.
