What's a boy to do?
When you tell your tale
And it never fails
I just end up feeling bad for you.

With your hang-dog eyes
You can bring me down
Now I'm wrapped around your whole hand
Stop looking so surprised.

You make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)

I've been burned before
You're not fooling me
There's no mystery
You've forgotten what you're hiding for.

Call it self defense
You can obfuscate
And manipulate
But it's only at your own expense.

You make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)

Easy to be with you
Easy to obey
Easy to forgive you at the end of the day
Easy now to judge you
Easy to betray
Easy to adore you though you want to run away.

It's easy

Look what you have done
I can do the same
Two can play this game
You'll no longer be the only one.

You make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)
Make it easy (Easy)
Easy (Easy)

I always liked Ed's voice better than Stephen's—much less theatrical.
I just heard the word "obfuscate" and had to spark our office manager since this is our company theme word.
any song that includes the word obfuscate is a winner by me, love that word!
Nice to hear BNL on RP, but this is quite a ways from their strongest song—even on this album. "Sound of Your Voice", "Take It Back", "Fun and Games", "Running out of Ink"... all better\more interesting songs.
Seriously...? Is this really happening?
Possibly the worst of the worst hour-of-music
Bill ever,...ever-ever played!

What's wrong Rebecca...?

upta upta upta
"Easy" is sounding a little "cheesey" ... but the lyrics are actually hitting home for me today.
Ack.. that bridge is a completely cop-out...
soft, pabulum, pedestrian . . .blah blah blah , , , ,   "easy" i guess . . . . a solid 4.2375

That is one of the best parts of BNL-their ability to use $10 words in their songs...

ah so it's KBCO day on RP.

I agree with you! Perhaps you could have expressed it better, but who doesn't trip over their words sometimes? Next time, just don't personalize your comments so much (word to the wise).

I have often felt that the bands you listed are dismissed here because of who the are rather than what they play. "It's Coldplay - Dave Matthews - U2 - haven't heard it - but it must suck." That's just silly, but it happens over and over.

Thanks, good comment, and you said it all better than I did...

Almost exactly 2 years to the day of your post (I'm diggin' deep in the comments), this song played again, and I was thinking along similar lines, Snaz...

I was absolutely in love with their congenial attitude, clever nerd-humor, and well-trained musicianship (so I gleaned from a Music major friend) in the 90's, only to find their later releases following the turn of the century seemed increasingly blah to me. We're all growing up, I guess, BNL included.

LOL, I feel like I started some 'rumor' about there being a 'group of cool people' here.

All I was trying to get at was that the attitude of hating these bands with a kind of virulence that comes with acting as if these bands are 'not cool' and should be shunned rather than the songs listened to on their own merits. I wasn't anyone singling out or any individuals, my post was generalized to make that point, evidently I expressed it clumsily.

It's not that I hate this band, it's just that any band with their name should be a lot more exciting than this.  Hence the disappointment with their music.  Maybe they should change their name to Barenaked Flatchested Ladies.

Oh, wait... I guess that means I'm not a part of that "group of cool people on RP."

Some "legal" troubles of late for Steve-er-eno! (click here)

Bands that a group of cool people at RP say we have to hate: BNL REM Coldplay U2 Talking Heads and David Byrne David Matthews and a handful more. Why? They had some hits. How horrible, that means all of their music is to be hated and not listened to on its own merits. IMO about this song: it's pleasant and well played, better than the drivel on commercial radio, but nothing particularly special. But nonetheless a pleasant listen just for the good melody and quality musicianship.

Most excellent, indeed.
I dunno, I found this a pretty easy song to like. ;) But then, I was a fan of BNL in the 90's, though I haven't kept up with what they've been doing since then.
wow this just get worse
Never been a much of a fan of these guys but I do respect them for writing catchy, well-written tunes and their commercial success CAN NOT be held against them.

Huh. I could never stand these guys. They played for free on the yard at McGill when I was a freshman back in 90, and I hated them then too. But this is actually good. Could it be they've grown up?
I've been hating them as long as I've hated Jeremy Roenick...but I give this a 7.
I thought it wasn't possible for me to like a song less than I like "One Week", but this song proved me wrong.

If you don't get BNL you shouldn't really be here. RP is about people who understand music, not people who think Donny peaked when he did the Donny and Marie show. At least it used to be.(sigh)
Huh, I thought Donny peaked when he did the "White and Nerdy" video with Weird Al.

I like this offering, and the BNL in general, better than that other CanCon darling and bloated navel gazer, Bruce Cockburn
I'm not even sure how you can compare Cockburn to BNL.. sheesh! BNL couldn't dream to be in his league in my opinion.
I used to be a big fan of their early stuff, and the live shows were a blast. They would improv rap in the middle of shows, and perform similar entertaining antics on stage. Seems they are growing increasingly bland with time. Sad.

Remember when they were clever and funny? Me either.

I second that. I found myself wondering if I had inadvertantly switched to a Contemporary Christian station or some kind of easy listening. Bleh.

Does anyone else hear the Alarms "Rain In The Summertime"?

I loved Stunt, but this already sounds like I've heard it 1000 times.
not a real green dress, that's cruel. these guys are fun. mind your head
Pretty slick, but beautiful.
Hooray! New music! Love the BNL.
