Mulvey is a terrific musician and engaging performer— he was here in Anchorage recently. His recordings don't capture him well. But I still gave this a higher grade than I'd give the U-2 version, which I find bombastic and over-done.

Yeah, well I think that Bono has gotten too high on the path to ascension and lost some if not all of his glory! This is just a good interpretation of a great song. Has a voice that is a cross between Joe Cocker and Ben Harper. I give it a solid 8.
Interesting. It's just so hard to separate this from U2. Solid 5, might go either way on repeat listen....
Different for sure but shows how versatile the song is and loved the blues slide guitar effect

don't know if it's all THAT bad, but i agree it doesn't stand up to the original ... this one lacks the sock-in-my-pants bravado of the u2 version.

People, people...consider it a compliment to U2 to cover one of their songs.
Bluesy is good.
In the name of God, why? WHY!?
I hate it when I wander into a coffee shop looking for a warm drink and a nice muffin and it turns out to be open mic night.
The lounge lizard version. Only thing it does is make me appreciate the original more.
I'm so happy that I was allowed to place this song as "El Sucko Barfo"
Amen.
I can actually understand the lyrics on this version! I like the song much better now...
Never liked the original. Like this a bit more, which is to say I appreciate it for being different. There is still a good song in there somewhere trying to get out. Maybe someday someone will find it. I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
Really liking this version.
I'll give this song one thing: You can hear the lyrics, which are pretty good.
For some reason this is reminding me of the dulcet tones of Richard Cheese.
Doesn't compare.
well, i'm not a huge fan of this song, but this version is certainly an improvement on the original.

I thought I was hearing Harry Manx on the guitar when I heard this. The style and sound is somewhat similar.
I wonder what kind of guitar he's using? It has that sound of the Veena (sort of a combination guitar / sitar, comes from India).
Just wondering...

This is gay....
Unnecessary.

I got it! U2!
HAH, HAH, HAH
One of Bill's joke cover versions. Very funny.
Sounds like: Bad Day on the Planet
I'm always up for some Peter Mulvey!!!
