He said eveything was fine until that fateful day
That's when his life started to change,
The day he went to help and go blow up that mountain range
He been moved to town a year ago or maybee more
Straight out of high school,
The whole he had in store,
Wanted to travel, needed some dough
Eveybody worked the mines why should he say no
But don't ask him why,
He can't explain,
Why now things for him have changed
It's not his land
They're not his songs
He can't work out why he don't belong
(chorus) x2
Part of company
Part of company
Part of company sin
Won't someone please tell the lad when humbug did begin.
Now legend has it,
Or so they say
The bones of an ancient people,
Yeah thats where they lay
And their decendants hold close to heart,
Oh that mountain range Ben was helping to blow apart
And so I said things for ben weren't quite right
Now he's waking up screaming man every single night
Hearing voices in different tounge
The screaming of the old
Yeah the screaming of the young
Don't ask him why,
He can't explain, why
Why now he feels in so much pain
It's not his land
They're not his songs
He can't work out why he don't belong
(chorus) x2
Part of company
Part of company
Part of company sin
Wont someone please tell the lad when humbug did begin.
(guitar)
Now Bens moved on
Job left him a while back
Now he's thanking God that his boss gave him the sack.
But in the mirror, yes he can face
The day he stopped helping go blow up that sacred place
(chorus) x2
Part of company
Part of company
Part of company sin
Now he knows when all that humbug did begin
I thought it was Enya.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The guitar work reminds me a lot of Zappa.
Particularly FZ's Hot Rats era
Shades of RHCP🙄
that's what i was thinking...
Shades of RHCP🙄
…or DMB. ;)
well i quite liked this one,
.
in spite of a few moments later finding 'with a 'W', and a 'W' and a 'W-dot' going round in the back of my head.
.
and if you lot could stop slagging each other off for a bit, and remember we're all here (RP) for the same reasons...
cheers all
Just in case - i was referring to 'WWW Dot' by Chumbawamba, which can be heard here - CHUMBAWAMBA: WWW DOT - YouTube
I don't know which came first, but this song reminded me of that one...
Yet more political BS from Mr Butler.
I have doubts about your critical objectivity - your trade is mining right?

Anyone who thinks this tune is “boring and without soul” is not trying very hard. Brilliant, beautiful work.
Is it the listener's responsibility to actively try to be engaged or moved by a piece of music, as if a special kind of concentration or attentiveness is all that will allow for a song's (potential) brilliance to come forth? Yes, there are ideal circumstances that will allow for a proper engagement with a song/work of art, but whether or not one finds beauty in the work is utterly subjective and not (in my opinion) a matter of effort.
Similarly, there are metrics involved where criticism or praise is given: "boring and without soul" doesn't convey much other than a negative reaction; "brilliant, beautiful work" doesn't convey much other than a positive reaction. It's kind of a visceral, gut reaction, isn't it? 5+ years of listening to Radio Paradise and reading the comment section tells me this is so.
In my experience as a listener, the music that I receive the greatest emotional response from is music that catches me completely unawares and requires nothing from me but my passive attention. Whenever someone suggests that I "must not be getting it" when it comes to a disagreement in musical tastes, I've come to think that it's less about the music and more about the image, aura, mystique, or politics of the artist that the other person has aligned themselves with.
Having said that, I found this song to be boring and without soul.
Unlike the opinions of everyone who disagrees with you, presumably.
I thought it was Enya.
I thought it was Daisy... we both have some weird thoughts. You my friend now.
US to approve Arizona mine land deal Indigenous group opposes
And yes, your opinions are worth exactly what we paid for them.
He ain't no company man, like you.
Ill-informed, virtue-signalling drivel. My opinions are based on facts, reality, and experience.
Feelgood hit of the Winter
Thanks to the RP player, I finally got to read the lyrics. I've been listening to this album for years and loved it, for the music itself, but now I love it even more thanks to those lyrics. Whoever said this is political BS, I wish your home and land was taken from you.
He ain't no company man, like you.
I know right? I think it's them every time I hear this
must be getting old
me--not the music

... Oh, I read further down, guess I'm late on noticing.
It was close enough that I punched that PSD button for all it was worth.
Holy Guacamole.
I thought, for the first time in the history, RP played a two for.
I was going to break out the Champagne, because Red Hot Chili Peepers are my favorite. And I'm like - hmm, I don't know this one - what the heck? This song could completely be on Stadium Arcadium.
Gorgeous... my daughter sent me the youtube link a year or so ago. I watch it every now and then to get a headspin.

Actually, I'm hearing Rusted Root
True that.
Michael Glabecki.
I was thinking the same thing!
Me too...good though
I saw the trio in Reno 2 or 3 years ago at a small little outdoor venue. What a great show! Too bad he does not come around these parts more often. Definitely an underrated talent.
Actually, I'm hearing Rusted Root
There's nothing wrong here, then...

Yes you are. Please stop.
Ditto! I thought, "Hey, they're back in form!"
Listened to it constantly while road tripping in Oz. Don't care how cheesey this sounds, but that album made the trip twice as good!!
b.t.w. the album's well worth buying - as with most good albums, the overall value is greater than the sum of the parts!
second.
fourth!

I completely agree. I saw them live in Alaska & they were just amazing! Met them after the show & everyone was so cool & down to earth. My favorite song is off their EP album, called Treat yo' mama (funky mix). Definitely indicative of John's style. MORE JBT on RP!!
