I love that it's the WRONG Roy Rogers bio on this page! 🤣
There's also a great guitarist named Arthur Godfrey but a Google search only finds the 1950s TV host by the same name.
Oh, well.

I just love the sound of slide guitar. Especially when it's played like this.

There's always someone that just loves to press that button. There's a certain someone always gives my comments a thumbs down. Just like this one will, I expect. You know who you are...

Anybody know what tuning he is in here? Open G? Has that old-timey Chess era Muddy sound to it...
WHOA!! Make that guitar ring! (Some mean harp blowin', too!)

I was fortunate to have been invited to see Roy perform at about the smallest "venue" possible....it was a benefit dinner / auction for Breast Cancer awareness in a small room in Everett, WA, with 50-100 people crammed in to hear him play and BOY did ROY blow the ceiling off that place! He did about 90 minutes or more, using at least 3 guitars, and his stories about John Lee Hooker were worth the price of admission alone. Anyone on the west coast who likes blues guitar I strongly suggest seeing this lesser known legend when you can. Long Live RP!!!

It's interesting, that's all. I wonder if they're both derivative of something I'm not aware of (but probably should be). Any ideas there?

u r correct sir, but.....to your point...... i think it's a blues vs rockabilly thing..strictly visceral. there's no doubt bout gattons excellence..he was an innovator and an inspiration to so many. i mean, i can see brian setzer just sittin there thinkin "hmmmmm....i could make a nice livin doin that!". with rogers i just hear other peoples stuff...like johnny winter to b sure..that metallic slidey thing he had goin on was straight off of the 3 sided album j.w. did with his brother "second winter"...just listen to 'hustled down in texas'.."i'm not sure' or 'I love everybody".....matter of fact if folks go u tubin' this stuff they'll never listen to rogers again.....(specially I'm not sure..thats a killer)
oh hell what about his version of percy mayfields 'memory pain'...thats just flat reeeediculusss.......nahhhhhh...forget it.... just listen tto the whole damn thing!!
This song followed Danny Gatton's, Elmira St. Boogie. Can someone please explain to a performing guitarist why this song rates higher? To me Roy is is encumbered by his abilities and uses paint-by-number riffs. Danny, on the other hand, has been an inspiration to many contemporary virtuosos, and had pressed the envelope in innovation and technique (RIP). Musically, Danny is much more interesting and more over a kick-ass, foot-stompin' rocker. I can understand why simplicity appeals to most folks, but can someone tell me why Roy is currently trumping Danny?

I met Norton Buffalo once. He was the harmonica player for the Steve Miller Band in the 1980's.

I heard it and knew it was Roy. I used to see him in bars in San Francisco. Best slide I ever heard, ever.

HILARIOUS! The artist website links you to Roy Rogers and Trigger!!!
Unbelievable! But you're right. I imagine Roy's not too happy about that! By the way, the cowboy Roy Rogers real name was Leonard Sly. If you go see Roy Rogers in concert he'll tell you he's all about "Chops, not Chaps!"
This is not my fathers Roy Rogers!
I'm starting to believe more and more that blus need to be seen live to be appreciated. While the recording is good, it sounds more grating than anything else.
Excellent Shuffle.
great set!!
Hm. He's aging well.

Somebody's got his mojo on this mornin' !!!
mmm Roy Rogers
Nice slide. Nice harp. Nice track
A quick shoutout to my buddy Steve Ehrman who plays bass with Roy. These guys are hot live--see them if you can. They live in the Bay area. Rock on...
And that was Norton Buffalo on there too!!
Dude this album totally rocks !!
Oh, yeah. Walk it home.
