Tell me why I feel so bad, honey
TV's flat and nothing is funny
I get sad and stuck in a cone of silence
Like a big balloon with nothing for ballast
Labeled like a bottle for Alice
Drink me down or I'll drown in a sea of giants
And tell me, "Baby, baby, I love you
It's nonstop memories of you
It's like a video of you playing
It's all loops of seven-hour kisses
Cut with a couple near-misses
Back to the scene of the actor saying:
'Tell me, baby, baby – why do I feel so bad?'"
Tell me why I feel so bad, honey
Fighting left me plenty of money
But didn't keep the promise of memory lapses
Like a building that's been slated for blasting
I'm the proof that nothing is lasting
Counting to eleven as it collapses
And tell me, "Baby, baby, I love you
It's nonstop memories of you

Agreed. Her work on the Magnolia soundtrack had some standouts, such as "Wise Up". And I will forever love "That's Just What You Are". BTW, every time I hear or see her a vision of her ordering lingonberry pancakes floats through my head.

I'm not a big fan of Sting, but there are 22 tunes of his on the RP playlist, so some folks do like his music, apparently. I like this tune, though.

There's something about her voice that kinda grates on a nerve after a while.

I've liked nearly everything Aimee's done, including her songs from Til Tuesday. This may not be one of her best but it still beats some songs from lesser artists.
true
beautiful
I love Aimee Mann. No, seriously. Aimee, if you're out there, you are the best. You hit me to the core.
New CD coming out today, I believe...
Well, that song made me change the channel

I had to go back to 2005 to find somebody who speaks the truth!
Funny that the one singer/songwriter whom I respect the most is among the most underrated. I'll just have to say more good things about her to make up for the lack of recognition from the music industry.
Got to play the tambourine and bongos on stage with her last year in Boston. Have loved her since Til Tuesday. Still totally real and genuine in her music and self.

I really like this song of hers. The slower songs on The Forgotten Arm are the most interesting, because that's when she breaks out of the live-sounding guitar/piano mold.
I can see how someone would get tired of her familiar style and motifs. The last album sounded really samey after a while. But she's still the master of her chosen niche.

Did she say "stuck in a cone of silence"? Guess she's been watching some "Get Smart"

This is argument people keep trying to use when I mention that there's a select group of musicians that Bill likes and, thus, hammers us to death with. They (even Bill, in one response) try to bring up "Song suchandsuch is only played a max of five times a week, so you're wrong about saturation bombing."
Well, Song suchandsuch might only BE played five times a week, but that doesn't stop MULTIPLE songs by the same few artists from be played every day. Listen for two hours and you WILL hear Coldplay, Natalie Merchant, Mark Knophler or David Byrne. There is a small group of people who get played five times a day. With the astounding amount of material to choose from, NOBODY should be played 4 or 5 times a day.
Hell, the KINKS are in heavy, multiple times per day rotation here. Played more than the Beatles.
So if you're going to attempt to counterpoint me, get it right.

I don't know, all her songs are starting to sound the same, kinda whiney and shoe gazing. I was a fan but her music is not fresh or interesting anymore. Its the same mope-ola song after song.
I really like Aimee Mann's music, but have been somewhat disappointed by the last couple of albums. Her first two solo albums were amazing--Whatever & I'm with Stupid. She's still worth listening to, but I wish she would get Jon Brion to produce her again.
boring. i won't even rate it since i have fallen asleep.

Don't stop there. Bachelor Number 5 (I think that's the right number) is even better.
Another great song from a great album.

Anyone who REALLY thinks the Kinks are played more than the Beatles here needs to lay off whatever they're smoking. That stuff'll make ya stupid.
I mean, c'mon, just consider the relative body of work available for each group. There are 101 uploaded Beatles songs on RP versus 23 Kinks songs. I have nothing against the Davies bros., but its not even close. There's a reason why the BEATLES appear more frequently.
Still, this is an inherently silly argument. Of the last 500 songs played on RP, there were exactly:
1 Beatles song
0 Kinks song
I defy anyone to mix a broader playlist than Bill does. And, anyone who complains about song choices better be prepared to cite some data if they want ANY credibility. Its all about sample size.

I would indicate to her clearly and concisely that she absolutely sucks as a singer now. There are too many coffeeshops up here in New England needing another full-time mumbling barista for her to stay in the music business any longer.

Hold on. This is Bill and Rebecca's radio station. To me that means they can play what they want; if I don't like it I can (and sometimes, do) switch off.
So what if the Kinks are played more often than the Beatles? (BTW if you want a more varied selection then try the LRC.)
I really can't blame Bill and Rebecca for having their own favorite groups. I'm pretty sure that any of you who started their own radio station would do the same (shudder to imagine a radiophysicsgenius).
Its still far, far better than the big corporations running the megastations that tell us what to listen to by playing the same damn crap HOURLY every damn DAY of every damn WEEK etc..........

Maybe you're listening to RP way too much. There are other options, you know, and I'm sure the good folks running the joint wouldn't mind if you strayed occasionally.

You do have a point there. How many different Porcupine Tree songs are there? Well, how ever many there are, they are ALL played on RP. This is so that we can say that this song was only played once in four days. We can still get sick of a particular group/band/artist even though their individual songs are getting played once a week.
If only the Grateful Dead was in the rotation as heavily as Aimee Mann....
awesome, the whole cd

The best of the songs of hers that I've heard in RP yet. Not that I've heard too many, but still :-)
This is such a beautiful song..
I'm starting to think that Aimee sings the same damn song over and over. In the same chords and same voice.
"tell me why i feel so bad" she sings, well, after years and years mebbe she doesn't know what else to sing about.
:-k
Another of the (growing) handful of musicians that RP shoves down your throat. She's played CONSTANTLY, and the monotone, nasal vocal just grates.

Ah, that's where I recognize the voice. I kinda dug that band at the time. Her voice sounds grating to me here. Shame.
BTW ~ I like your sig, Just Visiting this Planet is a kick-ass album from L. Norman. Are you a fan? He just started touring again. Nice to see him back and in good health. God sure does work in mysterious ways...

Suggestions on mouths open and closed from physicsgenius...now THERE'S irony. And you know, that's funny, because the English language has something called "witticism". It's like the words you continue to post only with intelligence, insight, and at least a passing appreciation for talent and subtlety in music.

She could sing names out of the phone book and I'd give it a 9.
