To REALLY understand this and his other solo work go back to his first solo album, "The Winding Sheet". A dark place(Seattle), a dark time(early "grunge" years). There was so much going on that was wrong and effecting everyone in that scene. He is lucky he is still around and kicking with "Queens Of The Stone Age"...
