Saw Bregović with a full band live several years ago - more fun than humans should have!
You Lucky Duck! I wish I was there!
Luketoni, you obviously don't know anything about music and you are simply a hater.
Over the years I heard people like you saying words like "fraudster" and "it is easy to just steal music". If it is that easy, how come he's been so successful for over 4 decades, and played in over 100 countries? When it is so easy why don't you do it?
As for "Serbia having much better, real musicians than him" LOL, that's only your (in my opinion pathetic) opinion.
I on the other hand don't think so.
Since this is not your private playlist, if you don't like it just change the station. Leave, and take your hate with you.
I Agree! Very well stated! What is Luketoni good at? ...eh?
Goran Bregović is a common fraudster and compiler. This is not his music; he only takes money for other people's music, from the very first day when he started to play music. You should remove it from the playlist. Serbia have many much better , real musicians than he.

I come from the same part of the world as Bregovic (known to locals as Brega).
Saw him for the first time in the early 70' at the one day festival at Hajducka Cesma (Highwayman Spring) with the band Jutro (Morning) which eventually became Bjelo Dugme (White Button) the most successful band in the former Yugoslavia.
Their success was due mainly to wonderful lyrics (by poet Dusko Trifunovic). However, not only in my view, no musical originality at all - stealing left right and centre from all over the world and all genres.
The same with his current project. Total theft of Serbian brass band music. If you want to hear a real unadulterated power this type of music visit a yearly festival in the Serbian village Guca.
In short, despite his enormous success, he is considered in serious circles to be a con artist. Though, great arranger, credit where it due.
It is quite a phenomenon how many people from Bosnia are hellbent on so easily proclaiming Bregovic a con artist. He is the MOST successful musician of all times from former Yugoslavia who wrote music for over 40 years. Sure he used a lot of popular folk themes especially in his work after the Balkan wars but it is part of our our (and HIS) cultural heritage and it only inspired him. Calling his project a theft of Serbian brass bend music shows that you actually don't understand the origin and purpose of folk music. As for his early Rock pieces (best known as Pastirski Rok), again, yes the influence of various world leading bands from that era are sometime visible but most bands in those times were inspired by each others (and that includes Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc.).
Calling Goran Bregovic a con artist is pitiful and downright hateful. I think that people saying so are simply jealous of his success and great work over decades.
I think they are all drinking
And?!!
It's happy.

Can't agree, he has helped put our country and our music on the map. For that alone he gets a 9 in my book.
Saw him 4 times... each time brilliant!
Two thumbs up, more for the juxtaposition than the songs themselves!

For those of us who probably won't visit Serbia anytime soon, this is a reasonable substitute.

It's serbian actually. And that's as close as it gets LizK, except its not 'c' (ć) in Check, its rather c in italian 'Ciao'. Or in any serbian surname such as Stojaković, Popović (Greg, San Antonio coach? :) ), Djoković (Novak) .... :)
If we're having this much trouble pronouncing the name of the band and the type of music that's playing we'd be here until midnight if there were lyrics to this.
Nope, Guča is known for festival of trumpet music, its simply balkan gypsy music, present in south east balkan region.
Trumpet, mostly used because a lot of them were left from VW 1, and it was available as instrument.
Goran managed to put all pieces together, nothing original, he stole this music from true masters of this kind of music; Feat Sejdic, Ferus Mustafov, Shaban Bajramovic, Ilmi Jasharov, Fanfare Ciocarlia etc.. Reason why i mention this, because those artist were robbed from recognition and its a shame. Anyone who like this kind of music, could find above mentioned artist, some good stuff is available on YT..
Sorry for poor English
I really like this kind of music, and can't figure out why almost no one else does.
I¨ve seen him a couple of times here in Argentina. Awesome concert
Whenever I arrived I said, "How how's it going?
She always replied with a sad troubled face, "Katastrophe, Katastrophe."
Then she's look at me with a wry smile, "Everyzing is terrrrific." Then laugh.
Hungarian? Romanian? Czech? The "c" should be as in Check. So, Gore' an Breh' go vich
I hope that's right.
Pronounced as Gore-han Breg-oh-which. Wedding Cho-check. It's Serbian.

"quasi - gipsy" ? It's full-size gypsy punk balkan music !! I miss Poland and its parties, this music tastes like heaven live ! On RP, it's a well deserved 10 :)
yep, quasi as Goran isn't gypsy and he tends to "borrow" ethno music.
I guess I never had taste for gypsy punk balkan music

It's not about his creativity or artistic interpretation of traditional music. His main crime is lacking a personal morality when using traditional music or other authors work and signing it as his own, without quoting anyone else. This defines him as musician specialized in plagiarism.
