Yes! Morro Bay... The ice-plant succulents among the vines at the edge of the beach, the reflection of the surreal rocks and sky mirrored on the tidal flats, and raw oysters as big as steaks! Mr. Scofield certainly has an elegant touch, and his work with MM&W is great!

Always thought this was pretty cool -- love the part where it almost breaks into the groove from the old Horace Silver original/ Steely Dan hit... I worship his work with MM&W and Government Mule, too.

Groovy background music.  Could be the soundtrack as I braise my salmon, or check my email.  (which I just did).  There is a track on this album entitled Kubrick.  Gonna mosey over to You Tube or elsewhere and dial that one up.

You're kind of comparing apples to oranges here. Cool jazz is a California subgenre that followed bebop in the 50s; prime examples include Dave Brubeck, Modern Jazz Quartet, and Miles Davis (circa "Birth of the Cool"). John Scofield is a jazz fusion master with a solid grounding in bebop, blues, and R&B. He played with Miles during his whacked-out early-80s period, and he's played with everyone from Charles Mingus to Pat Metheny to Medeski Martin & Wood. If you don't like any jazz that's been made since the 50s, you're welcome to your opinion; but dismissing it as "noodling" is just ignorant. There's a lot of bad jazz fusion out there, but this isn't an example.

I thought it sounded like MM&W. And I hear the Dan sounds too. But more than anyone else, it reminds me of Jeff Beck. Surprised to see no one else thought that. I like it. Plenty.

Nah. This is better than nice enough. As a matter of fact, John Scofield was good enough to play in Miles Davis' band along with Branford Marsalis, Darryl Jones and other talented players in the early 80's. By the way, what is proper cool Jazz anyways? Does it always have to be from the 50's or early 60's? The correct answer is no.
