Sleepin' on a planter at the Port Authority
Waitin' for my bus to come
Seven scotch-and-sodas at the office party
Now I don't remember where I'm from
I think I had a black wallet
In my back pocket
With a bus ticket
And a picture of my baby inside
And if I make it home alive
I'm gonna get my shit together (together)
Cause I can't live like this forever (forever)
You know I've come too far
And I don't wanna fail
I got a new computer
And a bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah)
A bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah) yeah yeah
Headin' for the airport on a misty morning
Gonna catch a flight to Baltimore
Try to kill an hour with a whiskey sour
If there's time I might have just one more
I gotta do some quick readin'
For the big meetin'
But my head is spinnin'
And I can't quite open my eyes
As long as I don't have to drive
I'm gonna get my shit together (together)
Cause I can't live like this forever (forever)
You know I've come too far
And I don't wanna fail
I got a new computer and a
Bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah)
A bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah)
A bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah)
A bright future in sales
Yeah yeah (yeah yeah) yeah yeah
I had a line on a brand new account
But now I can't seem to find
Where I wrote that number down
I try to focus, I'm starin' at the screen
Pretendin' like I know
What all these little flashin' lights mean
Oh yeah
I gotta do some quick readin'
For the big meetin'
But my head is spinnin'
And I can't quite open my eyes
I gotta get my shit together (together)
Cause I can't live like this forever (forever)

Another shallow and pointless (if catchy) pop band destined for obscurity. But God, how I wish they'd hurry up.

Yep.

They are just too funny... Makes me almost want to get MY shit together!!!!
Maybe something the kids would like.

I agree. Everything I hear from these guys sounds thin and very familiar.
This band used to be GREAT. With every album, they become less great. Very gradual, but it's happening.
I like this, reminds me of 60's pop with all the tambourine. I also really Hey Julie. They're sweet
I have been waiting to hear some Fountains of Wayne on RP! I love the whole album - clever, funny lyrics, plus a wider range of styles of any band I have ever heard on a single album.
(I'm sure THAT claim will be disputed. . . .)

Damn straight. Not everything needs to be Pink Floyd.

HAHA - I work with a guy named Wayne. He's the lead salesman here. Doing not too bad I might add.

I knew I should have gone into Sales.
Was thinking of the Timbuk 3 tune when the psychic playlist hit me with it.
Power Pop
Outstanding song that rocks.
Too Pop and too predictable

A friend turned me on to this CD recently and it has grown on me since. Their tunes have a crisp clear guitar sound and interesting lyrics. Kind of a cross between Guster and Honeydogs.... And besides, they're from Jersey ;-)
You say like being from Jersey is a good thing?humm
This guy sounds like a total poser!

As much as I like this song and its album, I think the other Fountains of Wayne discs are better. If you're new to FoW, check out the first two albums!
Agree. This album is too all over the map, style-wise. That said, it's still a great record...the power-poppy tunes (like this) are all awesome.
More FoW!!
this dude would get sooo robbed "sleeping on a planter at port authority"
This song's really growing on me. Woohoo for sleep deprivation and alcohol!
This is quite witty and the message translates well to my country (Australia), too!!! One of our Rock FM stations has "Stacey's Mum" on its playlist which alerted me to the band, which seems to have an affectation for Britpop (just gotta luv "Supercollider"). Good stuff!!

Definitely a GREAT album.
Fun. Thanks RP for turning us onto the Fountains. Great tune.

Finally some fountains of wayne! I've been a fan forever and have always wondered if i'd hear some on Radioparadise. Unfortunately I think there are so many better songs than this one to pick from, especially on thier new album: Hackensack, Valley Winter Song, and Hey Julie to name a few.

I liked their first album too. The picture of the little kid in his superman underware and towel cape cracked me up. It could have been a family picture of me or one of my brothers. \:D/
