The sea's evaporating
Though it comes as no surprise
These clouds we're seeing
They're explosions in the sky
It seems it's written
But we can't read between the line

Hush
It's okay
Dry your eye

Dry your eye
Soul mate dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soul mate dry your eye
'Cause soul mates never die

This one world vision
Turns us into compromise
What good's religion
When it's each other we despise?
Damn the government
Damn their killing
Damn their lies

Hush
It's okay
Dry your eyes

Dry your eyes
Soul mate dry your eyes
Dry your eyes
Soul mate dry your eyes
Soul mates never die
Soul mates never die
Never die
Soul mates never die
Never die

Soul mates never die
Soul mates never die
Soul mates never die
Soul mates never die

The slideshow for this song is quite humorous.
Am I going to need a condom for this?

Really, really, REALLY just can't stand it for longer than a minute. Have always enjoyed their music though, especially the unmistakably Placebo guitar riffs. And the soul mate is still a soul mate

Only a soulmate can drive you that crazy, lol!

He couldn't even spell 'gay' - tcha !!
Nope, soul mates never die.  But they do, each of them, change.  The trick is being able to recognize each other again as we move from the dream of one life to the dream of the next one.

Highlow

Soul mates never die
This is the song that got me into this band (thru RP). Saw them a the Hard Rock in San Diego (2011-ish), amazing show in a small venue!
I love songs that when you first hear it you give a 7... then you read the lyrics and give it an 8... then you hear the bridge and click either a solid 9 or 10.

Love RP for that!
Hmm that's odd, second time I've heard this song on RP today (19 August). @BillG what's up? Not complaining though, love this.

Saw Placebo at Festival Nyon in 2000.  They were fucking amazing...
Good Tune!!  I never heard of them before.  Thanx RP!

I dig it. But I would never have got to T-Rex. Interesting that you hear it in them. I think he sounds like a 'less-whiny' Gallagher from Oasis, fronting a better band.

Yes! Had to scroll down to this comment from 16 years ago to find someone else who hears Liam Gallagher.
Voice reminds me of Maynard Keenan. Kinda cool though.

Just cool.

BTW, they do a brilliantly outstanding cover of "Running Up That Hill".

I feel the same about Placebo - nice to hear once in a while on RP.

A professor at the Auburn University was giving a  lecture on Paranormal Studies. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, 'How many people here believe in ghosts?'

About 90 students raise their hands.

Well, that's a good start. Out of those who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?'

About 40 students raise their hands.

That's really good. I'm really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?'

About 15 students raise their hand.

Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?'

Three students raise their hands.

That's fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further...Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?'

Way in the back, Ahmed raises his hand.

The professor takes off his glasses and says 'Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost.

You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience.'

The Middle Eastern student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, 'So, Ahmed, tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost?'

Ahmed replied, "Wow, from back there I thought you said "Goats."

2003 huh? I would have thought it was from the '80's....
Ah, nothing like a little radio therapy this morning...interesting set of tunes singing to the core of me!
More placebo,love it!
Love the song.
I love it. Have liked the band since first hearing Nancy Boy. I like Rush too, but beyond the vocal range there is litttle base for comparison.

This sounds as good as it did in 2005. Good groove too. They are a fine band live. A solid 8.5

Sounds kinda like a Carbon Leaf track Bill plays.  Anyone know which one I mean? It's the vocalist in particular.
My first thought was Peter Murphy on helium?
Kinda the same delivery with a whinier edge.
I give it a 6 and await further listening.
Very nice song!
A classic.Great song,great production.Love the way it keeps growing
Creepy
Great  CD throughout. Thanks Bill for introducing me to this band.

The playlist just went from The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens to this! If that's not eclectic, I don't know what is. {#Lol}

Great song of Placebo, one of the best...
What a problem we have! A lot of fanatic Rush fans, or should I say Geddy Lee fans... If this is not your style, just don't piss off... You are more trying elevate Geddy Lee than comment about the damned Placebo's Single. A lot of melancholy, I liked the lyrics the keyboards and piano really gave an interesting atmosphere. I can give a 8 for this.

Wow, I guess I was in a really bad mood that day. I still don't like Placebo, but apologies to any I might have offended. Still a 1. Ick.
Yep, when your name is Ben Dover, cell mates never die. Sleeping with goats, indeed. What a pile of guano. This might be the single worst band played on RP. Tux, I've found your Radiohead/Beatles/Coldplay/etc. They're called Placebo...as in false effect. As 1 as 1 can be. Oh, and dweebuses, stop comparing them to Geddy and Rush. No comparison whatsoever. When your album cover art is the best thing going for you...WARNING. Rush NEVER had that problem.
Voice like Geddy Lee's...lyrics from Neil Diamond. Clearly something going on here. :propeller.gif:

Don't insult Geddy Lee.
Interesting cover art on the CD. Song's not so bad either.
I remember when this was brand new just over a year ago...yet it already sounds dated....

Nope. Not at all. I still read and write comments wherever I feel fit. And I don't think they're useless. It's just another opinion on the list. If you don't like that, feel free to disagree. I get used to that.

Placebo is an amazing band, I own all of their regular cd releases. While their self-titled album is my least favorite of their, the other three, Without You I'm Nothing, Black Market Music, and Sleeping ghosts are some excellent pieces of music. I had the chance to see them in concert over the summer of 2003 in L.A. and I must say that it was an amazing event to see. They put on a very good live show, and their music was actually a little harder, which turned out to be all for the best. If any of you get the chance, I recommend seeing them in concert, definately worth it.
This song makes for a strong argument against cerumen removal.
I this song was okay the first 5 times I heard. Now...I would give anything if you would stop playing it....pleeeeease?
"soul mates never die" my best friend's husband was killed this summer, they were soul mates if ever there were any. somehow, I don't think she'd find a lot of comfort in this song.
Lyrics bad enough to make Geddy Lee blush!

sheez I didn't think it was as bad as most of the comments suggest. too early for me to make an opinion yet though.
Must... slit... wrists... Hope I hear VAST after this...
I find this song is growing on me (sorry, NWG). This is the first song by Placebo I've ever heard to my knowledge, although I'd heard of the band. The singer's voice isn't that grating, and I like the bass line. FWIW.
damn the government damn their killing damn their lies
A bit slicker production than the first two albums, and continued from their third Black Market Music I guess... Not bad... Trademark voice for sure
I cannot stand these guys. He sings through his nose and sounds like the lead singer of Rush, neither of which are good thing in my book. I even saw them live, opening for another band. Nope, just as bad live as they are pre-recorded.
This tune is aimed at precisely one audience - the sophomore prom crowd, slow dancing edition. Guess it works for that but this guy's voice has NOT grown on me. Yeesh. Oh well, to each their own.
Cool album cover.
GOD, this is depressing...
perhaps as one recently bereaved I heard this for the first time, and the voice brought back pet shop boys and smiths and "all you Pretty Things, driving your poor mothers and fathers insane", and what came After. Sleeping with Ghosts: indeed. "soul mates never die", but hopefully they move on to heaven realms and fortunate rebirths, gotta let them go and if they do check in, let it be with messages of hope and love so many gone, so many no longer young, no longer foolish, no longer loved This one's for the boys, the ones passed over and the ones left behind. Om Mani Padme Hung :
A fan of Placebo, there is something about their sound, his voice is different, haunting. Their earlier works are good also. :D
this is like justin timberlake's twin... only not as pop culture
My oh my this song sucks. Give it up RP!
Last night - Budapest - fantastic show :)))
