Lyrics:

I don't love anyone
You're not listening
You're playing with something
You're playing with yourself

I don't love anyone
You're not listening even now
You're playing with someone
You're playing with someone else

And if there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child
It's to take a hiding

I don't love anything
Not even Christmas
Especially not that
I don't love anything

No, I don't love anyone
Well maybe my sister
Maybe my baby brother too, yeah
I don't love anyone

But if there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child
It's to take a hiding
If there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child
It's to be alone

If there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child
It's to take a hiding

Out in the street today
The kids are out playing, having fun
Well I pass them by I'm not a kid, no
I don't love anyone

I met a man today
He told me something pretty strange
There's always somebody saying something
He said, the world is as soft as lace

But I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone
I don't love anyone

If there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child
It's to take a hiding
Eh, sounds okay... I agree, probably a solid 5.
Two thoughts, make that three...damn this is a good tune, wow it sounds like "Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie and the Blowfish, and damn the chorus chord change is the same as "Tangled Up In Blue," which explains why it sounds like the Hootie number.

I had a scare there for a minute. The beginning chord progression almost sounded like "I Only Want to Be With You" by Hootie. :)
I was thinking of Pretty Flamingo (old enough to know that one, which my oldest brother had as a single, I believe), though I still love that song.
Love this album, love this song. And I don't love anything (not even Christmas).

Belle and Sebastian are wonderful. Too good, actually, for the majority of people, with malice in their hearts. :fight.gif: (What I mean is the music Belle and Sebastien makes sounds so good, it is the antidote to bad feelings.)

This band is incredible and it's from one of their best two albums. BTW, the reference in the song to "I met a man today, he told me something very strange...that the world is as soft as lace" refers to Lawrence from Felt (and Felt's excellent "The world is as soft as lace"). Of course, Felt is another band that should be played on RP.
